I guess we will have to agree to disagree on this.
It is a despicable unconscious act on anyone's part to sell a child/teenager.
The knowledge we do have seems to say that people who have done so have been drug addicts, and
impoverished, uneducated, ignorant folks who are told some BS story how it will be a better future for them,
they do it from Love and wanting more for their kids, not from a numbness over their existence.
It is a very sad sad situation. not to be taken lightly. not to be overlooked. but not to be mistaken either
that a sober parent can do such a thing.
I can't understand any parent selling their child for money. I watched the videos and I know it happens, but I can't understand any parent buying any line about how much better off the parents and/or their children will be financially. It's a sick thing to do.

My thinking is that most people are aware of this crime and know that it goes on, and find it disgusting. Even hardened criminals behind bars find it disgusting. Personally, IMO, I don't know what kind of person it would take to sell (or buy) a child. Pretty dadgum low, lower than a snake IMO.

Daryl Hannah's Mission: Ending Sex Slavery

11/21/2006

Daryl Hannah tries on wigs to disguise her identity while filming her documeniary on sex slavery.

When most famous actors or actresses wear disguises, it's to hide themselves from over-zealous fans or the relentless paparazzi. But when Hollywood actress, Daryl Hannah, conceals her identity, it's because her life could be in danger. That's because Daryl is going undercover to document the disturbing truth about modern-day slavery. Experts say most of today's slaves are women and children, forced against their will to have sex with as many as 40 men per day.
Daryl Hannah has made it her personal mission to not only rescue these sex slaves from the pimps and madams who illegally own them, but to spread the word about the growing problem by making a documentary about the issue.
Using her own money and resources for the low-budget film, Daryl straps microphones to her body and carries a hidden camera as she travels to brothels around the world. Her goal in making the film is to shed light on the serious issue of sex slavery and save the innocent people being held hostage and raped for profit.
Instead, experts say most of the girls are immediately raped and brutalized into submission. If they do not comply, investigators have seen cases where pimps and madams starve the slaves, burn them with cigarettes, and beat them with electrical cords until they give in. In some instances, the young girls are drugged to keep them from escaping.
It Could Happen To Anyone
Experts say anyone could fall victim to sex slavery -- even Daryl Hannah. She shared her personal story with AMW about how she nearly fell victim to a sex slave operation when she was 17 years old.
Daryl says she had just moved to Los Angeles for college and didn't know anybody in town. She met a girl in a grocery store who made an interesting offer. Daryl says the girl told her she was going with five girls to Las Vegas to model for an album cover. Shel said everything would be paid for; their plane ticket, hotel rooms, food, and clothing. Thinking it would be a great opportunity to meet new people, Daryl agreed to go.
But after they arrived in Vegas, Daryl's senses kicked in. She began to realize she was going into debt to these people and would be expected to do something in return. It wasn't long before another girl tipped her off, telling her that the situation she was about to get herself into wasn't a good one. That's when Daryl realized she was about to be forced into a sex slave ring. Daryl says she and another girl climbed out of a window and escaped.
Wow, I have heard of modeling agencies doing this to young girls and women. I didn't know it had happened to Daryl Hannah. Thanks for sharing this.

Handmade Goods Crafted By Women Recently Freed From Slavery (click this link to see the video!)
COLUMBUS, Ohio — Millions of women and girls live like Tina Frundt once did. When she was 14 years old, she was forced into prostitution.
Theresa Flores was drugged, raped, photographed and blackmailed into commercial sex when she was 15.
Human trafficking is the world’s dirty little secret according to Emily Hill, who has met survivors in Asia whose parents sold them into slavery.
“It’s estimated to be about 27 million people enslaved around the world,” Hill said. “I just knew in my heart I had to do something.”
Hill started a business, called Stop Traffick. She works with international charitable groups to market jewelry and handbags crafted by women who were rescued from prostitution and slavery.

Songline - I think you misunderstood my meaning.
I was not talking about parents.
I'm talking about the people that knowingly sell woman and children into slavery, the pimps, the guerilla warlords, the people that bring these girls across the border. Their parents are a different story, they send them to where they think they will be cared for. They sell them once.
The perfectly sober people that actually run this multi-BILLION dollar industry are the ones selling them over and over again.

I never meant parents...I meant the actual criminals.
The madams, pimps, warlords...they knowingly sell these children for slave labor, for domestic slavery, for prostitution, and they are usually stone cold sober. MOO.

Davis worked in the kitchen at Carolina Inn at Village Green, an assisted living facility in Fayetteville.

CES, a South Carolina-based staffing company that has a contract with Carolina Inn, hired her in June 2008 after an extensive background check, an official said. She had a good employment record at both Carolina Inn and the Haymount Nursing Rehabilitation Facility, but she is no longer employed by the company, the official said.

http://www.wral.com/news/local/story/6435879/

Davis worked as a dietary aide at the Carolina Inn at Village Green, preparing meals for residents at the Fayetteville assisted living community, according to owner Franklin Clark. She was employed by CES Inc., a South Carolina company that provides certain workers for Carolina Inn, Clark said.

Davis had worked part-time for Village Green since August, according to a CES executive. CES had done a state background check on Davis before she was employed by the company, the executive said, and her record was clean.

Who knows to whom else CES may have contracted out.

Small world. I am friends with the owner of CES

Darryl Hannah is doing great work..

but I don't feel it has any relevance here

this was IMHO an isolated incident of a nasty crack ho mother who smoked her way into "debt" with a perverted dealer...who then took her precious child as "payment"

No big drug ring, no big child prostitution ring...just low level scum

the sad part is that Shaynia was even IN this dump in the first place
just a total tragedy

When you go into remote areas those people have no awareness, no newspapers, no information, no education,
or any concept that someone would do such a thing.
I did watch a documentary very long ago and the broadcaster made it very clear that these people are ignorant.

I can tell you this much When I used to travel to remote places for any extended time, (when I was young)
When I returned to civilization I sure as hell missed a lot of news.
Not all parts of the world are civilized, not all parts of the world have news of any kind.
I do believe they did not know at all.

I agree with that totally. They are sub human. :furious:

Any humanity they might have had has been eclipsed. By money or power or whatever you wanna call it.
I personally don't have a word and any I can find would result in a time out...at the least.

Wow, thanks for your input there. That's very interesting. I've found it very disgusting that she would prostitute her precious child for drugs, and for the life of me I couldn't wrap my brain around why she would do that....actually go through the process of allowing her child to leave her, knowing what was going to happen to her baby. I've heard some panelists speak on JVM that they think that her drug addiction could have caused her to lose or not grasp her maternal bond for her child. MHO is that the maternal bond for her child was never there to begin with. IMO drug/alcohol addiction is a disease, however, I also think that some people are just born NOT to be parents. IMO

BBM excellent post, but if those panelists are using this as her excuse, they are off the mark by about a mile. Lot's of people have no maternal bond or instincts even, but they still would never, ever hand a child, a beautiful little 5 year old baby over to a man to use for his own sick perversion!

I completely agree with you, at this point I believe neither of Shaniya's parent's should have been allowed to have children. For a parent to sell her child is despicable, for a parent to put his child into the position that this could happen is just as bad. IMO
He had Shaniya in a safe, comfortable home and without investigating what he was sending her off to live with, he handed her over. I can't imagine what this baby had going through her mind, because even a five yr old is old enough to know this was not a good situation. She must have felt so abandoned. Breaks my heart.

My ex husband put my children in harms way, nothing compared to this, not even the same ballpark; I fought like a demon for him to lose unsupervised visitation, every time he messed up he had CPS at his door. Because I was not going to let my children end up on a milk carton.

And if that meant CPS was looking at me cross-eyed, so be it. I could stand the scrutiny. Every time CPS went to his house, they came to mine first. I didn't care. In the end they agreed he was unfit, did he lose visitation? No! He gave it up, when his roomies threatened to kick him out because they didn't want CPS at their door.

My 6 year old daughter was molested by his roommates son, twice! He knew it happened both times. He never told me about it. He punished her for it! The boy was almost 9, and he knew way too much about sex. Fortunately the boy ended up getting help.

If a parent is not willing to do whatever it takes to protect their child, they don't deserve to have a child.

This happened to our next door neighbor when I was a young teen, she was beautiful, had been a cheer leader and homecoming queen. She was a typical girl next door, with long red hair. She wanted to be a model and met someone who said he could help her. Her parents checked out what they could at the time; checked his references.

Lotta good that did, he took her to Orlando (from So CA) she had no money in her pocket (she was told all expenses would be paid). The next day her parents got a call, she was hiding out at the airport. Needed a ticket to get home. The return ticket he had given her was fake or had been canceled.

Turned out the information the creep had given her parents was all fake, he disappeared and nothing became of it. Cops told her parents how lucky she was to have gotten away, they never would have heard from her again.

Wow, I have the chills, I hadn't thought of this in years. Because of her, I have a cc that I gave to my kids anytime they traveled, thank GOD they never needed to use it.

Gosh...Ignorance is NOT bliss.
I can not believe some of the chit I read....

when I was a teen, a photographer wanted me to do some modeling, and while I did not know it then.
I was stunning, even if I say so myself :blushing:
He kept on coming around, and I asked my parents if I can go to Manhattan and become a famous model. LOL I did sing and dance in school, so I would have been attracted to this.
But All I can say is GOD BLESS my parents who were uneducated and poor, but with a great hinky meter.
NOT only did they say "Absolutely Not" but they told him that if he comes around again they would call the cops. Nobody ever saw him again in the area. LOL
Another one came around this was much later....asking if I wanted to model for playboy by then I was 16 by then.
My mom picked up the phone and just told the guy the police station is just around the corner you better run fast....LOL
he too disappeared and never came around again. I have to say my Mom always had great instinct.
It was that year that my father finally had enough saved up to buy a house in a better area and out of the housing projects.

They seem to go into poor neighborhoods where people need money, and may think;
WOW If can get my kids famous! Maybe we can have money for a better life style. :(

RIP Mom and Dad. :beats:

Then pay attention...lol.
Every stone cold sober pimp that sends a 15 year old girl out to work the streets, is a trafficker of children.

It would be so easy to think that parents of these kids are not sober, that they are poor, that they have no choice...anything to tell yourself "Not here, not near my kids, not where I shop, and eat, and entertain myself on the weekends."
That is hiding from it. And hiding from it is dangerous.
In the time it took me to type this, 8 children were sold as commodities.
http://stopchildslavery.com/page/2/
(the third video is worth it, but is a waste of time for people that are only going to close their eyes to the problem anyway.)

That's terrifying. Thank God for these people that are making this public. For the life of me I will never comprehend how a human being can do this, but as usual it all goes back to the almighty dollar! The love of money is stronger than the love of life.

You are so right Donna it is all there is now.
But when I was reading Human's post about people who live bouncing around because they are homeless it gave me a horrific picture of despair and I am so very very far - I still do not understand how a human being can let a child into such conditions when there are choices? ?????????????????????

I don't know how I could consider not looking at all that.
The more I read the more angry I get.

I know we are not supposed to speculate, but there are situations where people might suspect things are not kosher, but don't really want to know for sure. I think BL had some inkling that the situation with AD was not ideal because he commented that she didn't always live in the best of neighborhoods. He probably just hoped for the best. We don't know what was going on with him, but for some reason he wanted to change Shaniya's living situation ASAP, but he was unwilling to place Shaniya with friends or family who offered to take her in. There's always the possibility that he didn't want to burden them with one more child, since they were already caring for Shaniya's siblings.

However, I keep coming back to the point that I made earlier. Knowingly or unknowingly, Shaniya was placed in a situation that was very dangerous for her. The situation was so toxic that Shaniya did not last there six weeks. I'm sure that BL did not know that the outcome would be so tragic, but I would feel a little better if he admitted that he made a mistake sending Shaniya to live with AD.

When I was growing up there was a middle aged single guy in my neighborhood. Great house and he had real arcade games, a pool table a soda & alcohol bar, huge projection tv...he allowed smoking and cursing....you get the picture. It was ABSOLUTE PARADISE for an 11-12 year old girl. Lots of GIRLS would hang there...even one of my best friends.

My parents forbade me to ever set foot in that man's house. I was told if I was ever caught or they heard I was....I would be grounded to my room indefinitely. I was more than a tad miffed ....but listened.

Well, apparently...the end of that very summer he was arrested for child sexual abuse. He had been getting the girls drug and high and filming them and taking pictures to sell. He never made it to trial. While out on bail, someone beat him and shot him dead. Probably an angry parent. According to my dad ( who was very tight with LE) They never even bothered investigating who killed him. It seems one of the girls he abused was the daughter of a police officer from another town. He and his wife had divorced...wife had custody. Speculation was it was simply taken care of with a wink;)

To clear up any confusion, I did say parents in one of my posts, even though I didn't mean to. I was talking about the traffickers in general, most of whom don't traffic their own kids. So I typed parents, even though I didn't mean to.

Sorry for the confusion, as it was solely my fault.
(I shouldn't type until the caffeine has taken hold.)

I don't think what happened started that night either. I think it started the last time she walked into the trailer, right after Carey dropped her off, and continued up until her murder.

Sadly, I agree. I was hoping that the transaction with MAM resulting in Shaniya's murder was a one-time thing.
