Scotland County Captain Randy Dover said the family reported Bennett missing last Wednesday, but he hadn't been seen for days prior to then.

Dover said at this point, they suspect criminal involvement in Bennett's disappearance and don't believe he went missing on his own.

Jennifer Bennett said she and her family started searching for her son and were able to find his blue Dodge Challenger abandoned on Butler Road near the Laurel Hill community of Scotland County.

Bobby Bennett said his son would never be gone this long away from his family and his six-month-old baby.

“I was hoping, just something. Maybe he went somewhere or with somebody. But, as long as it’s been, you know there is foul play," said Bobby Bennett.

The family called Precision Search and Rescue to help search for their son.

SCOTLAND COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) — A $10,000 reward is now offered for information that can lead to the whereabouts of 28-year-old Shelton Bennett of Scotland County, according to Bennett's family.

Rhodes said he believes that someone in the area of Butler Road knows what happened to Bennett.

"I do believe that whoever put that car on Butler Road. I believe that they are somewhere close. They live somewhere close here. And that they know this area, quite well. I don't believe a complete stranger would have just found this road. I spoke to a lot of people and they said it didn't stick out to them. And they live right around here," said Rhodes.

Bennett went missing three weeks ago. Deputies found his car on Butler Road, but there's no trace of him.

They're also seeking information in the murder of 30-year-old Kayla Hodge. Hodge was shot to death last month in front of her young children in the Wagram community of Scotland County.

Deputies said they've gotten tips in both cases, but none have panned out.

Shelton's FB as "Rasta Floyd"

Speaking of "Rasta" (Rastafarian), I did find this arrest from 2020:

LAURINBURG — Shelton Bennett, 24, of Laurel Hill was arrested Wednesday for possession with intent to sell marijuana and carrying a concealed weapon. He was given a $2,500 bond.

Jennifer Bennett told The North Carolina Beat that her son, Shelton, went missing on August 24, 2023. She said a friend of her son, who “was supposed to have borrowed his car,” called her on Friday, August 25, and said he had been trying to reach Shelton but hadn’t been able to. Jennifer said she last spoke to her son on the morning of the day he disappeared, August 24th.

He called me and asked if I had spoken to my son and I told him I did yesterday (August 24), Bennett said. He said he was trying to get up with him but couldn’t.
Jennifer told The North Carolina Beat that her son’s friend told her that he had visited Shelton’s house and noticed that his baby’s mother was behaving strangely, claiming she hadn’t seen him. She said she then went over to her son’s house and spoke with his baby’s mother, who claimed she hadn’t seen or heard from Shelton since the day before.

She told me my son had left home the day before and din’t come home that night, Bennett said.
The North Carolina Beat has identified the baby mama as 26-year-old Julissa Matias from Laurel Hill, North Carolina. Although Matias claimed that Shelton didn’t come home that night, she didn’t even have the decency to call Jennifer and ask if she had seen him

Based on a Facebook page called “Finding Shelton Bennett,” he appeared to have been missing since August 2023. Posts from the Facebook page indicated that Bennett was in his late 20s and had at least one young child. Another page claimed his car was abandoned on a Scotland County road shortly after his disappearance.

Scotland County court records shed more light on the case after an arrest warrant revealed that 33-year-old Fredrick Dashawn Moore was charged with murdering Bennett. Moore was arrested on Thursday, Aug. 7, 2025 and was taken to the Scotland County jail. Moore was denied bond following his arrest and was scheduled to appear in court Thursday morning.
