A missed opportunity that cost crucial minutes in the Shonda Stansbury investigation has police frustrated as the anniversary of the young mother’s disappearance approaches.

WELDON, N.C. —

More than 125 people, including volunteers, law enforcement and emergency responders, plan to gather Saturday to search for three missing Halifax County women.

Amy Wells Bridgeman, 42, went missing in Weldon in June. Jalesa Reynolds, 18, was last seen at the Halifax Memorial Library in February 2010, and Shonda Stansbury, 24, disappeared from Roanoke Rapids in December 2006.

There has been no new news on any of these women. I am friends with Shondas sister and they continue to look for her and not give up hope.

I first heard of this case about a year ago. Sadly, the news is no different now then it was a year ago.

Jackie Stansbury, whose sister hasn&#8217;t been seen around Roanoke Rapids since 2006, said she entered Shonda&#8217;s name into a national crime database on her own. She got tips from callers, and when she told a detective about them, she said he told her, &#8220;Check it out, and tell me what you find out.&#8221;

ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A complete human skeleton was found at an abandoned Roanoke Rapids building Tuesday afternoon.

Roanoke Rapids Police Chief Chuck Hasty said a public works employee was working on N.C. Highway 158 near Spring Street and Carter Street just before 3 p.m. when the skeleton was located.

Hasty said the East Carolina University School of Anthropology and the medical examiner have been called in to handle the case.

Visitors to the Halifax County Courthouse on Ferrell Lane have a new reminder of the county&#8217;s missing. The Halifax County Missing Persons organized the planting of what she called a &#8220;remembrance tree&#8221; in front of the courthouse, which means every vehicle that passes to the structure will have to pass the tree.

I check up on this case every now and then. I find it amazing someone saw her running down the street and she vanishes from there.

Checking the status via a Google search and there is nothing in the last 12 months. Amazing that nothing came of the descriptions the witness gave of the men chasing her.
