22-year-old Stephen Eugene Moore III of Shelby appeared in court Thursday on charges of killing Sincere Emmanuel Moore.

Court reports indicate the infant's mother left him with his father while she prepared a bottle for the crying child on Monday. District Attorney Sally Kirby-Turner said Thursday that when the mother returned, the infant was having trouble breathing.

The boy died Tuesday. Kirby-Turner said doctors found several injuries, including a broken leg and a lacerated liver.

Moore was convicted of discharging a firearm into an occupied dwelling and malicious conduct by a prisoner in 2016 and had just finished probation in July.

He told the judge Thursday that he lost his temper while incarcerated and that he wasn’t a violent man.

“You don’t know what goes on inside that causes an inmate to blow up,” Moore said. “She’s making me look like a monster.”

The Cleveland County District Attorney’s Office may pursue the death penalty, Kirby-Turner said. Three factors could qualify the case for capital murder: felony child abuse, pre-meditated child abuse or torture.

Well! I guess that's because he IS a monster.

From the obituary ... "Shelby - Sincere Emmanuel Moore, infant son of Destiny Byers and Stephen Moore, of 2518 Wildwood Drive, Shelby peacefully transitioned on Tuesday, September 4, 2018 at Carolinas Medical Center- Main in Charlotte."

"Peacefully transitioned!" What kind of sick parents describe a violent death from a lacerated liver and broken femus as a "peaceful transition"?

Exactly my thoughts - and usually the murderer's name is omitted, even if he was the father .So sad, he seems to be forgiven....

Charges dismissed Sept. 2022
Investigators have claimed Stephen Moore III killed his son, Sincere Moore, back in 2018.

At the time, prosecutors told Channel 9 that the infant’s mother left him with his father while she prepared a bottle for the crying child, and that when she returned, the infant was having trouble breathing.

They rushed Sincere to the hospital, where he later died. The district attorney said doctors found several injuries, including a broken leg and a lacerated liver.

Stephen’s murder trial began last week, but court records showed charges were dismissed Wednesday
[Sept. 21, 2022].
Seven days after the trial began, in a case that was expected to go two to three weeks, it was dismissed.

Superior Court Judge Todd Pomeroy granted the defense’s request to dismiss the case after much discussion following closing of the state’s evidence. During discussions in open court, Pomeroy asked questions regarding the circumstantial case.

Pomeroy said in court that his decision was not a determination of guilt or innocence, rather a determination of a proper case to hand to a jury.

The identity of the person who inflicted repeated abuse on Sincere Moore in his 56 days of life may never be known.
