I ran across this local cold case and I instantly became curious about the circumstances that may have led to Stephen's disappearance.
So far I've only found a few articles about it. I thought I'd start a thread in case there is any other interest out there.

NAMUS Listing - Stephen Victor Meeks
Stephen Victor Meeks – The Charley Project

Circumstances of Disappearance
Meeks was last seen in Reidsville, North Carolina on November 24, 1988. Stephen was last seen at approximately 6:00 am by his wife at his residence near Rt. 5 and Box 58H in Reidsville, NC. Meeks' wife told investigators that she and her husband had a fight Thanksgiving Day and that he left their Reidsville house in his black Ford truck But the couple's three children, ages 11, 10 and 8 at the time, told investigators their father was not home Wednesday night when they got home after going to church with a friend. The children said he did not come home at all that evening. Meeks' wife had filed for divorce from Steve Meeks in late 1987, but the couple apparently got back together in fall 1988, shortly before he disappeared. At the time of his disappearance, Steve Meeks had retained a lawyer in Naples and was seeking custody of the children. Meeks' sister filed a missing persons report December. 4 after he didn't show up at his mother's home for Thanksgiving dinner

My specific areas of interest in the NAMUS listing are BBM. I'm wondering how much questioning was done about the fight prior to him leaving? Did the Mrs. retain a lawyer regarding his disappearance? Did she attempt to locate him with his family members that eventually reported him missing? Do the children remember anything pertinent in hindsight after all these years? Did Stephen have friends he may have confided in about his attempt to divorce and get custody or any of that process? Did the wife remarry at any point? Sooooo many questions and I can't believe this is an area I am very familiar with yet have never heard of this story or seen a single flyer ever. Where are the "many people" looking for him? Let's get together and discuss this and figure this out! I can't imagine 3 children who grew up with a missing father have ever stopped looking for answers. There is conflicting information on his age at the time he disappeared, either 32-33, but he would be around 66 by now if he is still alive. I just don't imagine him leaving 3 kids behind to never speak to them again.

MANY SEEK TRUTH ABOUT MISSING MAN
Sam Page, you were a detective on this case and became sheriff... maybe you could revive the interest in the case and get it off the books before you retire?
"At least six detectives worked on Meeks' disappearance in the years that followed, including a young detective named Sam Page. Page is now sheriff."

I have the impression that he either had an accident and fell into Hunt Lake or Reidsville Lake... maybe he was very angry or his truck broke down... but I always believed that if there's a missing car with its owner and a body of water nearby, that's where he must be... I feel sorry for his children...
whatever it is
Rest in peace
