• Distinguishing Characteristics African-American female. Brown hair, brown eyes. Hobbs is supposed to wear eyeglasses, but they were left behind. Her ears are pierced.

Details of Disappearance
Hobbs was last known to be living in the 5900 block of Edgebury Road in Raleigh, North Carolina, and working in Cary, North Carolina.

According to her husband, she abruptly left him on November 24, 2008 and went to California, without telling him why. She left her car behind as well as other personal belongings, including her jewelry, diary, two pairs of eyeglasses and her computer, and she never picked up her last paycheck. She has never been heard from again.

Hobbs was studying stenography at the time of her disappearance, and she had a job in Cary, North Carolina. Because it wasn't uncharacteristic of her to drop out of sight for a couple of weeks or months, she wasn't reported missing until October 2009; her brother filed the report.

There has been no activity on her credit cards or bank accounts since her disappearance, and no evidence that she has been employed anywhere. Foul play is possible in her case, which remains unsolved.

10 years later, Raleigh detectives still puzzled by woman's disappearance

Taveta and Phil Hobbs looked like the picture of the perfect marriage. They were together for 17 years and living their life in Raleigh with no sign of trouble.

Then, Taveta vanished.

"Something terrible happened to Taveta Hobbs here in Raleigh and she took her last breath on Nov. 24, 2008," said Raleigh police detective Eric Gibney.

Gibney is piecing together a perplexing puzzle. He says Taveta did not pick up her last paycheck, left her car behind, did not leave using any form of public transportation and there is no sign Taveta ever spent any money.

She was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and, at the time of her disappearance, she was working for a company in Cary and working toward a career as a court reporter.

North Carolina Navy veteran Taveta Hobbs remains missing a decade after her Thanksgiving week disappearance

Growing up, Taveta Hobbs and her younger brother Clinton Crier were very close, Clinton told Dateline.

“She was a sweetheart,” Clinton told Dateline. “We had a huge love for each other because I was her younger brother, and she really looked after me.”

As she grew older, Taveta showed an interest in serving in the United States Armed Forces and joined the Navy in 1982.

“She was moving around a lot then, so we became less close,” Clinton said about their relationship. He told Dateline the two would still speak on the phone whenever possible.

In 1992, Taveta married Phil Hobbs. The couple lived in Virginia before moving to California, and then ending up in Raleigh, North Carolina in 2004, Clinton told Dateline.

Crier said he had never heard his sister discuss plans to move back to California, where he also lives.

Hobbs told Crier that she had left behind her car and taken a small amount of money. The story struck him as strange.

'She loved that car, and she wouldn't have just left it,' he said. 'None of it sounded right.'
