GUILTY NC - Tim Hennis on trial in the '85 Eastburn murders, Fort Bragg

  • #661
The window in the children's bedroom in the back of the house was staged, the old type of storm window and interior window were raised about 3 inches giving the appearance of someone trying to get in. However, this was clearly done from the inside not the outside. Julie was going to try and get in the window by stepping up on the air conditioning unit but Bob Seefeldt told her no, leave it just like it is

That's very interesting. Has anyone dug into Seefeldt's background or asked around for any dirt on him? Any rumor that he had a thing for Katie? Prior to your mentioning this, I had never heard him discussed as a suspect.

He was never looked at and is dead now

I'm aware that he died recently from following your posts. Just wondering if you or anyone on Hennis' defense team did any digging around by way of private investigation or plan to (talking to people who knew him, background checks, military records, military colleagues). Maybe if people could find any of Katie's friends who might shed light on whether she mentioned anything about him bothering her or creeping her out prior to the murder. Could be interesting to see if he can be eliminated. Was his alibi his wife I guess? You'd think he may have made a pass at her and she turned him down in which case there may have been some rumor floating about. Though they may have not pursued this before, I'm sure there are still living people from his and her lives and neighborhood that she could have confided in. Also buddies of his from the Army may recall whether he had a roaming eye for the ladies or if he was known to be a devoted husband.

I don't know anyone who has taken it that far about him. But the picture that you have seen over the years of the 2 little eastburn kids in front of a tree, he actually had that on his table next door, that Sunday

Here's another angle. Since Gary was an officer, and if you say a scene was staged (wish we knew exactly how or what is thought be staged, I don't think I ever heard that), then you have the idea that someone was trying to set up Gary. Who could have done that? Maybe what Sundrop means is the part about the glove tip being found which made it look like MacDonald. But that falls back on Julie again, trying to stage the crime to be a copycat of the MacDonald case. But what if it was a friend of Gary's who liked his wife? He flipped out and raped her, then realizes what he has done, the kids saw him (this might work with Seefeldt as well) so he has to kill them. He thinks hard on what to do and decides to make the scene similar to Fatal Vision so they will think it was Gary. Another possibility?
That is a good point. All wh knew Gary also knew that his young, attractive wife had been left alone. A temptation there, especially if anyone had been drinking ......WISH they would do the profile testing! Yet, it may not even hit in the criminal profile data base.....

But the window staging makes me think of Seedfelt. The picture, too, and his speech and demeanor on the news. What can be done now????

Absolutely

The picture of the girls seems odd. I wonder if this is something he already had or could he have stolen it from the house after the attack. One of the problems with this idea, however, is the testimony of Charlotte Kirby about the van and the person she saw in addition to the neighbor who spoke with someone in a van parked outside the house. There's also the phone calls she received as we know Katie knew Seefeldt well. Could he have disguised his voice? I may have to watch again, but he didn't appear to have any scratches on his face that I recall during that interview. Can't remember if his arms were showing. On the other hand, Seefeldt or Julie would have felt more comfortable entering the home repeatedly, probably easier for Seefeldt. His weirdness about the window stands out too. Wish now we could get a PI to start fishing around and at least asking questions about him to friends, neighbors, relatives, colleagues. Also a look to see if he had any type of criminal record. Was he still married to the same woman when he passed away? Sometimes an ex can be an investigator's best friend on a cold case.

Yes married to same woman, in 2009 he had no criminal record but that doesn't mean anything, yeah Kirby, calls said I live just down the road and Kirby lived in the summer hill neighborhood

He will have been in prison 11 years. And he will probably lose. He needs some other route, as in proving someone else did the murder. :(

Absolutely, have to place someone else in the house forensically

Very sorry to hear this. You know I said it before, but I think it's weird that Gary and his daughter don't want to fight to get that dna in CODIS. If it were my family, I would want to know whose DNA is on a bloody towel next to her body. Maybe the lawyers tell them this could free Hennis, and since they are so sure he's guilty are afraid to do that. I know that's why the prosecution is afraid of it. But Stombaugh thought it was 2 people so even if you think he did it, this could be an accomplice. I think they know if they find the accomplice it is not going to have anything to do with Hennis, no connection, and they want their conviction to stand. But it's so wrong and the family should only care about who really did it. Most people just cannot believe that police and crime labs would do things that are shady and unethical, that they would cheat. They need to study human nature a little bit.

I agree, but I will do what I can to place someone else in the house, that is what is needed

Is there any way you can have the sample tested independently?

Not sure if you are talking about the vaginal swab dna or the towel. The defense tested the v-swab and didn't release the results which suggests they were not in their favor. But if I'm right they cross contaminated the v-swab back in the police evidence storage or in the crime lab, so whatever they give the defense is still going to show Hennis. About the only thing that could be done is exhume her body and test again, but I'm sure even if someone would do it (they won't), it would be far too degraded now for a result. If you mean the towel, it's already yielded a full DNA profile of an unknown male but they won't submit it to CODIS to see if there is a hit to someone else. Sorry if I misunderstood what you mean here. Just like you, I'm wracking my brain trying to think of a way to help prove he is wrongfully convicted of this crime.

The only think I can think of now is a podcast or documentary in the way of Serial or Making a Murderer to make the public see the flaws and injustice enough that forces their hand. That seems to be the only way when they are set on railroading someone to get anything to change. His lawyer saying to consider consensual sex really doomed his case and it makes me angry this wild statement was allowed to remain if Tim did not give permission to say that or approves of that statement. I still think he should fight based on his lawyer blowing his case by that statement alone with the jury and the public.

But we have to figure out a way to get that towel dna into CODIS. If the public at large understood the implications of it, I think they would demand it be done. That's why a podcast that is well done and compelling enough to rise in popularity would be very helpful (or documentary).
