REX — The skeletal remains of person that were found on Tuesday have been sent to the state Medical Examiner’s Office for identification, according to a statement from Maj. Damien McLean of the Sheriff’s Office.

A surveying crew found the remains about 3 p.m. on Tuesday on the 1200 block of Heritage Drive near CSX railroad tracks. The Fayetteville office of the FBI has been contacted to assist with the case, according to Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.

Wilkins is asking people not to use social media to spread rumors about whose body might have been discovered, out of a concern it could impede the investigation.

Anyone with information is asked to call McLean of Capt. James Obershea at 910-671-3100.

ROBESON COUNTY, NC (WMBF) – Authorities continue to investigate after skeletal remains were discovered Tuesday afternoon in Robeson County.

According to a press release from the Robeson County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to the 1200 block of Heritage Drive after the remains were found near the CSX railroad tracks by a surveying crew shortly after 3 p.m.

The remains will be sent to the North Carolina Medical Examiner’s Office for identification. The RCSO notified the Fayetteville office of the FBI for assistance, the release stated.

ROBESON COUNTY, N.C. (WPDE) —

Land surveyors found a skull Tuesday afternoon under a bridge near the Rex community.

The scene is in the 1200 block of Heritage Drive, which is between the St. Pauls and Lumber Bridge areas of Robeson County, according to Robeson County Sheriff Burnis Wilkins.

The remains were located near the CSX railroad tracks by a surveying crew.

Sheriff Wilkins notified the Fayetteville office of the Federal Bureau of Investigations for assistance.

The Sheriff asks that the public not spread rumors about the possible sex and identification of the person as forensic confirmation is sought.

The Robeson County Medical Examiner said it was fragments of skull only with teeth and braces.

He’s hoping he’ll be able to get a positive identification.

Wilkins said more information will be released later Wednesday afternoon.

They haven't left since Hania... I think this is unexpected human remain's #3 or 4 since they arrived during her case... I think they would like to leave, however Lumberton's unresolved/ current crime situation is making that near impossible..

Thanks, the van location in the "wheat field off east McDonald Road between Chicken Road and Centerville Church Road" throwing me off, I saw one of the articles stated it (skull) was in Rex.. so this is what I found if we are talking Van and Skull only..

Not the case at all, thank you for the kind words however.. as I look into this more and talk to more locals.. im not sure if this is Sara. I hope its not just another victim unreported or that will remain unidentified for years to come. The positive is there is new management in town there and they look seriously at cleaning things up..
