It always goes quiet when all the info to discuss can't be mentioned here.

I think this is the obituary for mom’s boyfriend. Not certain, because it says he leaves behind a wife. I think it’s him because it mentions his work, which is where his body was found in his car.

I guess it makes the obituary awkward if you try to mention both the wife and the girlfriend.

ASHEBORO — Jonie Gardner is grieving over the deaths of two loved ones — her daughter, Tori Scofield, and her boyfriend, Ben Smith.

Tori, 19, had been missing since Saturday night when she left friends at a club in Randleman. She was found Tuesday in a wooded area off Pisgah Covered Bridge Road southwest of Asheboro.

Ben’s body was found Tuesday morning in his car. Both bodies are being examined to determine cause of death.

The Randolph County Sheriff’s Office is investigating. Calls left with the office were not returned Tuesday.

While speculation abounds concerning the two deaths, Gardner asks that everyone wait until all the facts come out.

“Tori was my only daughter, the baby of my first set of children,” Gardner said. “She was the light of her daddy’s and my life.”

Gardner said that when Tori didn’t turn up, she and Tori’s father, Frank Scofield, went to look for her at the location on Pisgah Covered Bridge Road, which Gardner called “our spot,” referring to her and Smith.

She said a detective had asked them if there was a place where Tori could have gone. They had to use a four-wheel drive vehicle to get up to the clearing and Frank Scofield found the body, she said.

Earlier that day, she had had to deal with the death of Smith. Now it was Tori.

“Ben was a good man,” Gardner said. “He loved Tori very much. He has two children, ages 19 and 16, and they’re not taking this very well.”

All she has to say is what a good man Ben was and how he loved Tori? Too bad she didn't take the opportunity to talk about her daughter and how loved she was.

I get what you're saying, but ... The reporting in this case has been BAD! I wouldn't be surprised if the reporter was emphasizing sensational aspects of the interview, and leaving out other things Mom said altogether. Keeping an open mind, for now.

It was already pretty awkward when it says he’ll be remembered for his laughter and being a jokester. I didn’t know him, but I’ll remember him for taking the life of a teenager...

I just realized, what exactly is it that they're needing to "solve"? Is it presumpted that B killed her or do some feel he took his life for other reasons?

I shudder to ask, but I wonder if there was any....evidence *ick*.....on her remains that would confirm contact between the two.

Some people are stating Tori's Mom covered for him, and lied to police about what time he was home that night. His death was clearly a suicide, he shot himself in the head, in his car at work.
Tori's death, we know nothing about yet. People on social media still shock me, I'm thankful we have rules here ...

It seems logical to assume this was a murder/suicide. But I've seen cases take some large twists and end up nothing like I predicted. I guess we'll have to wait and see what the autopsy and investigation reveal.

Most of what I know about this case was from social media. It's quieted down, not much is being said now, which I'm sure both families appreciate.

From memory they said autopsy and toxicology would take three months.
