Ok, I've been a long-time lurker and I just have to comment on this case . . .

I have a beautiful 10 year old freckled faced little girl and this one is hitting me hard. Prayers for this precious child . . .

Oriah - step-mom says she has an incurable brain cancer on her facefook. Zahra has a bone cancer and my bet is that the chemotherapy gave her oto-toxicity causing hearing loss. There are a couple chemos known to do that, especially in children. moo mho

Yes- that was what I was saying. News link and LE says Zahra had bone cancer as a much younger child and I was guessing at the oto-toxicity as a result. Stepmom, only her own facebook diagnosis of brain cancer. Is that correct or did I miss something there?

I just can't look at the MS anymore! Totally creepy!
It took me about 30 seconds of looking at it to realize this woman is OUT OF HER MIND!!!!

Very dark, very yucky (don't know how else to put it).

IMO when someone looks at that kinda stuff constantly and lives it, they de-sensitize themselves. JMO

I still have a feeling the SM has a drug problem. I've thought that since I saw her mug shot. Then, add all this dark crazy stuff.

JMO/MOO/IMO...and all that jazz.

Wow. This stepmother looks like my former boss, the worst boss I ever had. I know it's not her, but it freaks me out to look at the stepmother. Talk about a bad omen to me...

And she looks a lot older than I thought she was based on the small snippets of her myspace page I've read about on this thread. I didn't expect her to look fortyish...

Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said Monday afternoon that a search warrant has been executed at the girl's home and that a ransom note was found.
Adkins also urged the public to help in locating the girl.
"We are running out of time folks," Adkins said.

Welcome to the frantic posting world of WS, long-time-lurking Reba!

I have no idea how old Zahra was when diagnosed with bone cancer. Was she in Aussi land or here in the states. Do you know? TIA

Step-mom's brain cancer - I have no idea if it's true or not. On her facebook from 2008, wondering if this is how she drew Zahra's dad's attention to her.

this is going to be one convoluted case. moo mho

The stepmother also had a short temper, Rotenberry said.

Rotenberry said about six months ago, she noticed that Elise Baker’s hand was swollen. “She told me that she was trying to spank Zahra, but hit her on her prosthetic leg,” she said. “When Adam asked her about the injury, she said she fell and hurt her hand. She didn’t want him to know. She knew he would be mad.”

Another former neighbor, Brandy Stapleton, 22, of Lenoir, said that Elise Baker told her the same story about how she injured her hand. “She wasn’t the person everyone thought she was.”

Adam Baker was from Australia, and met his current wife over the Internet, Stapleton said. Zahra’s mother lives outside the U.S.

On Monday, several of Adam Baker’s friends stood outside his one-story house just off a busy Hickory street, near the spot where someone had set a fire on Saturday morning. There were a few burned tree limbs and what appeared to be clothing.

HICKORY, N.C. — A North Carolina police chief says investigators are having trouble figuring out if anyone has seen a missing 10-year-old girl alive in the last few weeks.
Hickory Police Chief Tom Adkins said at a news conference Monday that police are seeking anyone who may have seen Zahra Clare Baker.
The girl who has bone cancer and uses two hearing aids and a prosthetic leg was reported missing over the weekend. But Adkins says: "We don't know the last time anyone saw her."
Adkins said a ransom note was found at the home the girl where the girl lived but wouldn't elaborate.

Will be back in short order.

"was"......past tense...WTF?

*snipped*
Channel 9 spoke with Kayla Rotenbery, who is a friend of the family. “She was a great young girl. She was the best young girl you could ask for. She had perfect manners,” Rotenbery said.

:waitasec:

She also speaks of the stepmom in past tense and we know she's alive, safe and sound. I think she might be in the past tense frame of mind because she's a former neighbor and hasn't seen them for a while so her observations refer back to a time in the past.

Former neighbor Kayla Rotenberry said she and her fiance were good friends with the Bakers when they lived in the nearby town of Sawmills, and saw Zahra often. The couple was skeptical of the girl's stepmother, in part because she claimed to write songs for musician and "American Idol" finalist Chris Daughtry, and told other far-fetched stories, Rotenberry said.

"We just got to the point where we didn't believe her. We knew they were lies," said Rotenberry, 23.

The stepmother also had a short temper, Rotenberry said.

"She wasn't as nice as she seemed," she said.

It worries me that these former neighbors say they saw Zahra often but the current neighbors say they haven't seen her. How long have the Bakers lived here?

That was my bad, I think someone was saying stepmom was posting on MySpace about having brain cancer herself . . . what a weirdo. Sorry about that. I'll sit on the confused bench with you though!

Please make room for me, I'm going to join you two on the 'confused' bench. :)
