Wasn't it the closet door that was removed? That wouldn't have been in the attic. The neighbors said they heard "squirrel " noises, a child would make more noise than that. The heat alone in an attic would have killed her. I just don't see it. And then you throw in that they never saw her even though we know she was enrolled in school at that time....nope it don't pass my smell test. But that's just me....lol. I think they wanted their 15 minutes.

with that being said... They state that they haven't seen her since she moved in, so maybe she was just kept in her bedroom as well... why the dramatics...??? :waitasec: She could have been in her bedroom for all they knew....

I'm thinking ... 15 minutes of fame.... how sad is that....

She was not deaf. She had some hearing loss in the high frequency range only. She'd have heard plenty without her hearing aid.
And that's why I think the hearing aids were still there. I've said many times today that I don't believe she wore those hearing aids after the initial batteries ran out. Those batteries died and that was it. They stayed on the dresser. Especially because she could hear some - that was enough for evil, wicked, mean and nasty - she liked Zahra not being able to hear EVERYTHING she said.

I personally don't buy the Zahra in the attic story. From the description and coverage on TV it did seem that either it was used for storage or even to see if they could get into any other apartments but it was not setup as a living space. There would be some creature comforts not just fibreboard and stuff. IMO

When I was in my late teens the room I had had a "drop ceiling". You know the kind that has a small metal grid frame and you fit "tiles" into the squares. Anyway, I did have a squirrel get in there through a small hole in the outer roof's corner. It was a female and she ended up having her babies up there.

When I first heard the sound it scared me to death and then gramps and I did a whole lotta investigating. She would go out during the day and I only heard it at night. I had figured out it was an "animal" before we actually found out it was a squirrel. You could tell - it sounded like little tiny iddy biddy feet running. We let her and the babies stay until it was time for them to leave the nest and once they were gone we closed up the hole in the corner.

Point being - if there had been a person in that attic (even a child) it would have made a whole lot more noise than just a squirrel. What those two described they were hearing was the moving around of small rubbermaid containers (the containers of choice when storing drugs - they are watertight - keep moisture out and almost airtight - especially the ones you can "burp" that air out.

Ok - I've rambled enough.....but you get my idea.

We have a regular ceiling but every winter a few mice take up residence up there. They make a heck of a lot of racket just scurrying across the floor. And we have an attic floor too so there is about 8-10" gap between the floor underside and the ceiling of our downstairs. Even through that gap, we can hear them like they are just a couple feet over your head. I didn't believe they were mice at first because they were so loud.

When my mom kicked my brother out of the house eons ago, when he was 18-19 years old, we found in the drop ceiling of her house in the family room a ton of drug paraphenalia, etc he would just push back a ceiling tile, place the stuff up there, slide the ceiling tile back. Bongs, all kinds of stuff.
Wonder if the parents just opened the attic enough to hide their stuff, then closed it back up? Where was the access to the attic? How long were they living in that place?

And how did ya like the guy when he said he "thinks" they found a sheet up there but he can't rightly recollect, I mean it was like 8 - 9 months ago. We just threw the sheet away.

C'mon - it was A YEAR ago. There was no sheet up there. They checked that space - especially well when they moved for reasons we already discussed.

I posted something similar, AbbbieNormal, then I saw another post from Mommy23 saying that she'd reported her neighbor today.

I went to take a bath and was catching upon what I had missed by reading the posts backwards. I am glad mommy23 is watching out for them.

Hi again....I have not caught up yet but only read the first couple of posts and what the neighbours said about the fighting and the attic......

I wish they wouldnt do this sought of reporting........yesterday it was on here that she slept in a crawlspace above the closet and everyone was upset about it........so was I.....

and now we get where it came from......the neighbours supposing.......

This is awful stuff and I think it very irresponsible for this to be reported without truth......for one it upsets people and 2 if this guy is innocent, we already think badly of him because he left the wife beat the daughter...........but to let the daughter sleep in the attic..............well say no more....

I am almost convinced it is not true as someone said the insulation would be all squashed and their would have to be items up there...........

I bet it was where they stashed the drugs and she was put up there to get them.....

I am sure this little girl was locked in her bedroom alot though, hence no one seeing her...

That makes sense to me, Wise Old Owl. Zahra's needs were not a priority in every other instance, so I doubt the parents would have replaced the batteries.

I came up with a thought about the ransom note and the early morning fire. The fire was at around 5am. Whats the chance the ransom note was written as yes a way to throw them off from Zahra but what if she/he they went out to actually take Coffeys daughter that way they could say who ever got her got Zahra too,and threw out a cigarette??? and started the fire, layed the note down and went to put the fire out themselves. The fire got out of controll and they had to call FD???? Missing the chance to take the other girl panic wait several hours trying to figure out another plan and decided they better call LE and report Zahra gone??? just a thought?

Exactly!!! The media take a heart wrenching story and sensationalize it and speculate to the max ... it hurts the case. You can tell when it is controversial hype because they cover themselves but then focus the whole show and discussion on it -- no need to.

Just da facts Maam!

That's the way I was catching up, too. Go the last page for the latest news, then read the posts backwards.

That's interesting........and well, look at what has been done already. What's kidnapping after you have already committed murder?

Those batteries are a pain in the neck. They wear out fast, I bet poor little girl got at least one smackin' for not remembering to turn them off or slip the battery out when she removed them. Maybe she "chose" to just not wear them after a few smackings because better to just go without them than risk getting hit for forgetting to take battery out every night.

These people make me sick.

I was watching those neighbors go on and on before we left for dinner and I just got madder and madder this story is heartbreaking enough all on it's own, there is no need for the media to try and wring more out of it.

Actually, if the kidnapping works and you get money, you have away out of dodge. In a drugged up mind, I can see them thinking that was a plan.

You know they had to know there world was caving in on them. Both had warrants, Zahra's dead, court dates coming up they knew it was only a matter of time before LE showed up. OY!!!!!!!!! That's why she tried to get the charges dropped, she knew if she showed up in court, she would be arrested on outstanding warrants.

Ladders aren't hard to come by. If they were using the attic regularly for any purpose, I'm sure they had acquired one.

Yeah, I would have...but the landlords said the sides of the door were scuffed from someone going up and down.
