Some of you following this case aren't from around here.
I want you to know about the size of the towns we are talking about here.
From an earlier post I gathered she has lived in the following towns (Thanks for the person who did that post):
Cherryville, NC - Population 5,361 (as of 2000)
Granite Falls, NC- Pop. 4,612
Hickory, NC- Pop. 37,222
Kings Mountain, NC- Pop 9,693
Lincolnton, NC- Pop. 9,966
For comparison sake, Raleigh has 400,000+ people
Actually, I didn't realize Hickory has grown to be as big as it is.
Anyway, my point is... Western NC is like eastern NC where if you know one person you know all of them.
I live in a small town. Recently, a boy that we've all looked out for (called DSS for, etc), has gotten old enough that he has joined the Army. We fed him, we made sure he was safe, even though his "mom" didn't give a darn. DSS never did anything, but she knew that everyone was watching. The village raised that child, not her. I'm happy to say he has turned out ok and will be a great member to society.
Why didn't this happen for this little girl?
NC has had some serious issues lately with various departments (highway patrol, DSS, etc), I hope that our Governor Beverly Perdue gets this looked in to.
