Welcome, shopgirl.

I was just thinking about how Elisa spent some time in Caldwell county. I bet she knows all kinds of dirt roads leading to excellent hiding spots--Collettesville, Brown Mountain, Mortimer, etc.

Thanks Zelma, we are not all idiots!:banghead: I think they have done a great job so far.

I mean no ill feelings.

I live in a very small NC town myself. We actually call our police Barney and Andy.

Really, I can't take serious too long, trying to lighten the mood.

I do hope they bring in the SBI. More resources.

Edit: Just found out they were. Thanks darlin'!!

What is confusing is that the search warrant reads as if the firefighters found the ransom not during the early morning fire call. It also seems to read that Adam was aware of this note (seemingly directed at his boss) at that time. The warrant also states that teh boss was checked with at that time and it was determined his daughter was safe.

My question is if a ransom note, albeit one supposedly directed at someone eles, is found at the scene of a suspicious fire, where accelerants where found no less, why did no one bother to check on the household occupants to determine all were safe and accounted for?

This seems very odd to me

Did they say where? Under what circumstances? Maybe someone "gave it up".

From the search warrant:

Small grass fire was called into Fire Department on 10/09/10 at 5:20AM. Investigator on the scene by 5:30AM. Ransom note was addressed to the Baker's landlord and the kidnapping reference was made against the landlord's daughter....no mention of the Bakers or Zahra. Investigator checked on the landlord and the landlord's daughter so both were ok and left the scene at 6:41AM.

So, they were going to try and play the mistaken identity angle, eh? The "kidnappers" took Zahra believing her to be the landlord's daughter?

Apparently Elisa is just as stupid as she is evil.

Report says that no one other that SM and dad have seen her for a month. That doesn't necessarily mean she'd been gone a month. Could be that dad did indeed see her Thursday as reported.

Does the fact that dad called 911 referencing the kidnappers taking the wrong person necessarily mean that he was in on it? or did he just buy into the scheme?

I'm waiting on additional details before I convict the dad in my head. Tried and convicted SM in my head from the moment the story broke, but still on the fence about dad.

If he worked as much as NG reported last night, things could have been going on that he wasn't aware of.

If whatever happened to this sweet little girl happened weeks ago, why did the parents decide to report it now? An earlier poster speculated that there must have been something coming up that pushed them to report her missing this weekend. I wonder what it could have been? Do school officials check up on children who are being homeschooled during the school year? Was DSS coming back. Were the SM's ex-husband/daughter asking questions? Why come out with it now?

I'm flabbergasted that the parents would think the fire/ransom note/"disappearance" charade would get them off the hook. They could have just told people that Zahra was sent to Australia to live with her grandmother.

And that is the most heartbreaking, infuriating thing: why not actually send the little girl back to Australia were she has close relatives and free followup medical care!

So sad. Poor Zahra. She went through so much in life and then this has to happen to her. I am so mad. Mad at any people who didn't step in; mad at her dad for taking her from Australia, so he could marry his Internet romance and for sitting by as she was abused by the stepmonster; mad at any government agency who didn't step in and do something after reports of abuse were made by several people... MAD!!!!!!!!!!!!

During the investigation, police say they have learned that an inspector was called to the house. HPD are asking this person to come forward.

HPD want to form search teams to look for Zahra, Adkins said. However, police cannot confirm how long she has been missing or what areas where to search.

OHH NOOOO! My heart is hurting for this precious angel.

I am sorry this happened to you Zahra. No one will be able to hurt you now, sweet girl.

I am taking a time out. Thank you all for being here for Zahra. BBL.

Aside: it's ironic, given the kerfluffle about stepmother's goth-themed MS page, that the dropdown advert on the wbtv.com site is for a performance of 'Dracula' and urges, "Click here for killer seats." 'Dracula' is as goth as it gets.

No, it's not our cultural interests that define us; it is how we treat others entrusted to our care.

I understood. It gave me a brief smile in an otherwise pretty bleak day. :(

I'm having a hard time understanding why Elisa and Adam decided it was all the sudden time to call the police about Zahra/involve police.

IF they killed Zahra a month ago, what made now the right time to make up the kidnapping story/ransom note, set the fires, etc? Was someone (a family member, neighbor, friend) asking about Zahra? Was she supposed to have a doctors appointment coming up?

I don't understand that part of things.

HLN just showed a bit of the presser. He was so trying not to break down.
