Ahhh - I hadn't considered the immigration issue when I mentioned the possible benefits Zahra might be receiving. You guys were right BritsKate and Nancy - the pair doesn't look like the type to do it by the book. So many details left unknown.

Prayers for Zahra.

Good morning WSers! Here's hoping today is the day Zahra is found. :crossfingers:

I see the cellphone pic was a topic of discussion again while I slept. I sure wish we knew, for a fact, if Zahra was receiving medical care while in NC. Or whether or not they brought any of Zahra's medication with them when they came over.

To me, that picture could easily be explained away by steroid use (often given to cancer patients). Steroids often cause "moon face" and thinning of the skin; the combination of the two side effects can make the user appear as an abuse victim.

JMO.

ETA: My son's best friend battled A.L.L. valiantly for six years before passing from the disease, and I have many pictures of him looking almost identical to how Zahra looks in that photo. All the pictures were taken during the steroid-use portion of his treatment.

I know that the moon-face and easy bruising (along with weight gain) are common side effects of long-term steroid use but isn't it something that happens gradually? I don't think the steroids would change her appearance as quickly as what we have evidence of from her pictures. In the "id picture" in front of the sheet, for example, was very recent and she appears to have lost weight. The timing, too, would seem a bit off for her to be on steroids ~ two years after the cancer? moo

I take it no new develoments since AB's arrest? No word on the new search?

Nothing new that I can find. MSM just keeps rehashing yesterday's articles. I had to laugh at your siggy line though and wanted to bold 'MSM - subject to change at any time' after yesterday's events. ;)

I think we're all in the same ship - just waiting for credible info to be released from somewhere.

Glad you caught the referrence, the new siggy was only somewhat tongue in cheek ;)

New to WS. Just wanted to say Hello! I have been following along on this case and praying that there's a miracle involved here even though I know that seems to be a very small possibility. I think you all come up with some very interesting observations and I'm enjoying reading and sleuthing along with you! I hope Zahra is found soon and the people responsible are punished harshly!! This child didn't deserve any of this! As a Mom of 5, this breaks my heart to hear of a child treated this way. I drove near Hickory Sunday night and I couldn't help but cry for this sweet little girl.

I can only talk from my experience, but I readily admit that every person is different. I know I'm probably reaching for the stars, but I'd really like to find a reason (other than abuse) for the change in Zahra's appearance. (BTW, D's "moon face" would start developing quite quickly after he started the steroids, probably within three weeks.)

If, as many of us suspect, EB suffers from Munchausen by Proxy Syndrome, and they had actually sought out medical care for Zahra, god only knows what EB may have told that physician. Or (and more likely in my brain) I can see AB (or more likely KB) filling all of Zahra's then-current prescriptions before she left Aus. Remember that she had only beat the lung cancer shortly (within a year) before leaving Aus; it wouldn't be uncommon for her to have a prescription for steroids. Zahra starts getting sick (bruising easily, always tired, weight loss) so EB digs out the meds they brought over and starts treating her without seeking any medical attention.

was most likely food stamps, imo.

But only $200.00?? I have no knowledge how a state provides assistant but only $200/mn?? :waitasec:

It's been a long time (early 90's) since I needed assistance but when it was just myself and my daughter I got approx $120 cash a month and $100 in food stamps. I was making no money at all. With AB making some money their cash assistance would likely be reduced. So it doesn't seem far off that the Baker's were getting $200 in assistance from social welfare programs IMO. However, it does tend to make one believe that Zahra would have had medical coverage under the state.

Especially coinsidering EB seems to have munchausen tendencies.

The bandana in that photo came out at me, too. Why was she wearing it? I thought maybe EB had done some head damage, too, when she gave her the black eye. I also thought Zarah was maybe dying since she was only in remission when she left Australia, and not "cured" by any means. It was in her lungs only 2-3 years ago. There is often some truth even when people are lying. In an interview, I heard AB said (in regards to EB seeing her in her bed at 2:30 -- like what was EB doing up at that hour anyway?) that EB heard her coughing in there. Since he readily mentioned coughing, I thought maybe this was going on more and more and maybe the cancer was growing again in the lungs.

Interesting theory about any benefits that might be coming. I hadn't thought of that. I wouldn't put it past her.

Good morning all! I sincerely pray that Zahra comes home today! I have read and followed along since the first thread on this case and many threads on another case and cannot begin to tell anyone how heartbroken I am that all these cases exist in the first place. So many seem to have occured as a result of negligence on the part of social services that each state pays specifically to avoid these occurences. I am not new to WS as I have been following many cases for months, but would love to contribute as and when I can in any way, shape or form to bring these blessed children home.

Well I think if Zahra needed any medical care and chances are good she would need some. She only need taken to a community or county hospital for medical care. It's not like it doesn't happen every day. I/E our borders.

What they needed to do with her would be decided later but I can't see her being denied medical care she needed.

Problem with that is that EB had been racking up charges again under her new married name. Seems to me that she was trying to keep under the radar. We still don't know if AB and ZB were here legally but after reading the great posts from BritsKate and NancyA regarding immigration requirements, I have to believe that they weren't. And of course AB was racking up charges of his own. Does LE check for immigration status when filing these reports and laying these charges or does that all have to come out at the court date? Of course they both missed those.

So you've got AB likely working under the table and now ZB pulled out of school. They don't exist according to any government agency. They've moved 5 times and the cars they were driving weren't registered to them. EB's specialty...staying one step ahead of the law.

Taking a sick child to a clinic or hospital wouldn't have been something she would have wanted to do I would imagine. It would have blown her cover.

Not saying I believe this is what happened but I can see how it might have.

MOO

FYI airport WSOC change in report yesterday to remove the airport referrence. I received this from WSOC this morning in response to my complaints yesterday.

We are sorry for the confusion on this one fact. An investigator did confirm that Mr. Baker was arrested at the Charlotte airport. Then, no one else would. We have just received confirmation that our original report was correct and are posting that back into the story. As far as I am aware, that is the only conflict of fact that I am aware in the coverage of this story.

Yes I can see it happening just like you stated. I should have added if EB or AB had taken her for medical care. That may have been the circumstances but EB and AB had an obligation to make it right. <if that occured>

Yes, I was unaware of all the hoops for a green card also.
