I wonder if Zahra had a habit of when she took off her leg she placed the hearing aides inside the leg. The leg was picked up and it fell out.

I wouldn't be too surprised--I used to put my glasses in one of my shoes at night because I could never find them in the morning if I didn't!

Was EB or ? actually planning to abduct the bosses daughter? Could that have been a REAL plan initially?

I think anything is possible at this point. You post reminded me of the charge of assualt with a deadly weapon charge and the statement by the accusors that threats were made to their family. just a thought

(I know this is going in a very off the wall direction, but bear with me)... only LE, Coffey, and friends of Coffey's family would know if the son couldn't be located, correct? WE wouldn't know one way or the other. So, if we were trying to figure out what happened to an allegedly missing vehicle, or why cadaver dogs hit on 2 different vehicles at the residence, we COULD be missing a very large piece to the puzzle, no?

Just for the record, let me add that I have absolutely no interest in sleuthing the son, or Coffey. But I would find it very relevent information to know that the son has been account for, kwim?

agreed as to it would be good information to know and LE almost certainly checked up on that as soon as he was mentioned in the ransom note. IF there is a "missing" or unaccounted for vehicle LE would be looking for it. They may well be, but to my knowledge, the only speculation I have seen on that Monte Carlo is here and over at either the SM forum or val's HM forum.

Further, to assume that the son and the car were involved in some way is to assume that the car went missing that night and that the son were somehow not where he should have been.

All of the above are leaps that I have seen no reason to make based on the lack of interest I see LE showing in those questions.

True, but why pour the gas and NOT just go ahead and torch the whole vehicle? You already plan on setting a mulch fire, so what's the difference? Much more likely a fire would destroy all evidence than just the gas, so why not go the extra step? Only thing I can think of is the ransom note. Can't burn the note, otherwise the entire story falls apart.

Earlier, posters speculated it might be to hamper the efforts of cadaver dogs doing their job, though this seems to me to be giving credit for crafty intelligence where credit, in the Bakers's case, is not due.

my thinking as well. Which would fall into place with my theory that she lived in that home, and that she died, however the means and at whoevers hand, within the week prior to her reported being "kidnapped by mistake".

Not neccesarily. I don't have the actual date of the move to the new house, so I might be way off base here, but I do think Z made the move to the new house, and went missing mere days later. That would explain the neighbors comments regarding Zahra, ie; never saw her, saw her once and assumed she was a granchild because she wasn't seen after that, neither AB nor EB ever mentiong Z to them, etc.

There is nothing wrong with homeschooling unless they are not being schooled at all...

There is certain paperwork and assignments you need to submit to your school board so they can make sure your child is meeting requirements.
You cant just say im homeschooling my child and not have to prove it
it must be documented. And the child must hand in the necessary tests and assignments. Zahra slipped thru the cracks again! JMO

Also, the degree of district supervision varies drastically from state to state.

We chose to homeschool our two oldest daughters for the last couple months of one schoolyear because one was having rigorous screening for a heart problem at the time (she's just fine now), and we had to make the three hour drive to Children's relatively often. We researched the laws heavily and, at least in WA, documentation is required to be kept by the parents, but it seems rare that the district asks to see it. JMOE, though.

The ransom note and the possible charges for destroying the vehicle, or the fire most likely engulfing the rest of the property. MOO

MissJames, I notice your siggy line and apologize for the Off Topic but it suggests that loss by suicide may have trampled through your life and I just wanted to extend a mental hug.

okay, back on topic

I happen to agree with you, but to play devil's advocate, the managers at the apartment complex also said they rarely saw Zahra, and didn't know she was living there...

The ladies seeing her at the furniture store on 9/25 seem to discount the possibility Zahra wasn't inside the house. I believe it was the dog hitting on the two vehicles with 'indications of human remains' that, at least in part, led LE to term it a homicide investigation. MOO

This could be Panthera could be but i think they have some kind of solid proof! JMO

Seconding the hugs and thoughts!

Seems there was a pattern developed prior to the Bakers most recent move that indicates Zahra spent an innordinate amount of time closetted away in her room :( I am not ready to believe based on lack of her being seen by neighbors alone that she never made that move.

To my mind, that wouldn't be "crafty" at all, it would be ridiculous. Gas, fire, AND smoke would make a much tougher job for cadaver dogs than just gas...why NOT torch the vehicle? You've already set one fire, what's one more?

The 'red-headed, pot smoking son' implies a negative, derogatory description. Factoring in her known lifestyle, in that pot smoking would not be objectionable, this description could possibly be added to deflect away from her being the writer of the ransom note.

I agree. Perhaps it's that degree of ridiculousness which earlier posters naturally associated with the Baker duo.

Exactly, and some abusive/neglectful parents seem to have a tendency to keep their child/children in the house and out of view.

A mulch or brush fire on the property is one thing but torching the SUV would be a whole different charge if they were thinking that far ahead. MOO

Valid argument. Especially the part about fearing engulfing the whole property. My gut still says they didn't follow through because of the ransom note, but I'm willing to entertain this other possiblility.
