Where did you see this. I can't find it ( or I am reading too fast...)

When did these weekend visits end? I keep thinking about a timeline, but it really doesn't matter as I firmly believe this child was beat by her SM all summer long.

I just don't get it. ALL these people coming out of the woodwork talking about how they KNEW Zahra was being beat by her SM and NOT A ONE was adament about insisting DFS/CPS get their hiney their to investigate the abuse. :banghead: :banghead: :furious: :furious: :furious:

'PEOPLE' - next time you have that red flag a child is being abused.
PAY ATTENTION TO IT! It just might save a childs life!!!!!!
Better to be safe than sorry.
G-D! I would rather call in error than think, nah' maybe I am making more of this than is really there.

My heart aches NO ONE stood up for this child.

I wonder if BACA will show up for Zahra in NC like they did for Ethan Stacy. Anyone know if BACA has a chapter near this area in NC?

Bet your bottom dollar once evidence is found of this childs remains the public is going to be as angry if not more angry than they were over Ethans case.

Bentley, who is married to Elisa Baker’s nephew, said she would have Zahra over for weekends and the girl would get angry when it was time to return home
The visitations probably stopped after adam and SM tried to run Bentley off the road and threatened her and her child with the taser gun.

Missing N.C. Girl's Stepmom Portrayed as Angry

(CBS/AP) To relatives and former neighbors, Elisa Baker had a short fuse. In interviews and court documents, they portrayed her as nasty-tempered and willing to use a gun or her fists to settle an argument and say her disabled stepdaughter usually bore the brunt of her rage.

Investigators said Tuesday they believe someone killed 10-year-old Zahra Clare Baker, who was reported missing over the weekend. Baker was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday, accused of trying to throw off investigators with a fake ransom note.

Welcome back 490812, and thank you for giving us your insights and info regarding Little Zahra.

I was just going to say that....same thing happens here. Child dies, known to child services, nothing done. Same old story.

Or, as in another recent NC DSS case, they shred evidence and hide information from LE after the child dies so that they can cover their arses.

My big question is did anyone hear that wood chipper working and WHEN!!!

I posted a link pages back that said the neighbor never heard anything and it's a quite neighborhood.

I'm so sorry for your loss.

Chief Adkins really is a wonderful person. We're lucky to have him. Please keep him in your prayers, folks. I'm sure he hasn't slept a wink all week. Pray for all our law enforcement. This case is really taking a toll.

Yes, let's not forget to keep Chief Adkins as well as ALL those searching in our prayers. I can't even imagine waking in the morning to go to work knowing what kind of work I'd be doing that day..... and for a 10 yr old child. This has to be painstaking for all those searching......

Dear Lord PLEASE let the searchers and LE find what they are looking for today. :praying:

Well, there is a woodchipper at the home and a pile of wood chips, so there had to be the noise of the chipper at some point.

To people who has not been following through the night...

Most people did report it, including neighbors and family.
Please don't put any blame on them, this is bad enough as it is.
THIS ABUSE WAS REPORTED!!!

Yes, people did report but MANY people who are now talking about the abuse in articles and on TV, did not. They did NOTHING!

If you see abuse and call DSS and they don't seem to do anything, you call again the next time you see/witness abuse. You call again and again till something is done. You call police. You take the child to the hospital when she is staying at your house for the weekend and talk to a doctor who is obligated by law to report suspected abuse. You keep talking and reporting till someone listens and does something to protect this child.

None of the family and friend's have seen this child for weeks. Why didn't they question? Why didn't they call police for a welfare check on the child?

Saying to themselves... well I called DSS a few weeks ago and they did nothing, why bother?

You bother because a child's life is at stake.

I can tell you that in order for Child Services to remove a child in most states, there has to be 'beyond doubt that the child is being abused, mistreated, etc.'.
The problem is in some states, the staff doesn't get enough training, or doesn't have the power to removed a child unless there is proof beyond the shadow of a doubt. They may not be able to get a child to cooperate, the child may not tell the truth about bruises, etc to someone who is a 'stranger' even if the stranger is wanting to help them.
Parents under the eye of an investigation are often manipulative. They don't have to open doors, and when they finally do, they may make sure things are 'cleaned up'.

IMO, SM sounds completely narcissistic. It could be that the little girl became burdensome, and SM sounds like she didn't want any attention from her husband on this child. She probably scared him, too, and he might have felt compelled for many reasons to go along with it...she might have threatened him with making sure he was the one blamed for abuse, etc. Sadly, this is not unusual in female abusers.

Laws need to change to keep children safe. I believe that if enough reports were called in, and if people kept calling, there might have been more 'cause' to remove this little one before it was too late.

sad.....poor little lamb.

thanks for the link, tlcox....this case is very disturbing...I mean this little girl has been through a lot in her lifetime and for someone to just take her away like that...this really upsets me....I'm glad the step mom has been locked up....I need to catch up on this case...but I read that dogs hit on the mother and father's car? unbelievable....what the hell is wrong with these people...There are so many people out here that want kids to love and cannot have them....then we have the ones that can have them but don't want to love them, kwim? This makes my heart hurt...

Re: the video with
The only thing that made my skin crawl was his statement when he last saw his girl. Tuesday? Thursday? He didn't know. I think he was not seeing his girl at all the last few months, and he knew he should have. JMo

I think this likely confirms what extended family members have said: that Zahra was locked in her room for long stretches of time. How you could not even know the last time you saw your own child is just incomprehensible to me.

Yesterday moved so fast. Today looks to be pretty quickly moving as well....

I'm not sitting here all day refreshing the page. I'm not. I'm not I'm NOT!!!

Going for a run. Back in 30. Don't let me fall behind.

(is it too much to hope for amazing good news like she was kidnapped by a kind stranger and is enjoying a sleep in, followed by big pancake breakfast where she can take as long as she wants to enjoy it? yeah, i thought not. :( )

Here is another photo of Zahra's prosthetic. I haven't seen this photo posted. I would site the source, but I cannot, as it is a family member's MS page.

On a side note, it looks like Zahra's hair is much lighter in this pic than I have seen. I think that her hair may have been dyed on different occassions, as I have seen it in various states previously.

Why change the appearance of a 10yochild? What were they trying to get away from. Lots of moves and changes in appearance...why? moo

http://www.foxnews.com/us/2010/10/13/authorities-search-home-missing-north-carolina-girl-childs-remains/

Kayla Rotenberry, a former neighbor, said she and her fiance were good friends with the Bakers when they lived in the nearby town of Sawmills, and saw Zahra often. About six months ago she noticed that Elisa Baker's hand was swollen, Rotenberry said.

"She told me that she was trying to spank Zahra, but hit her on her prosthetic leg," she said. "When Adam asked her about the injury, she said she fell and hurt her hand. She didn't want him to know. She knew he would be mad."

Another former neighbor, Brandy Stapleton, 22, of Lenoir, said that Elisa Baker told her the same story about how she injured her hand. "She wasn't the person everyone thought she was."
