Found Deceased NCIS searching for Missing VA Sailor Angelina Petra Resendiz,21,last seen May 29

Esmeralda described her week-long ordeal, saying that investigators conducted multiple interviews, took DNA samples, and reassured her of their confidence in finding Angelina. However, specific details about the investigation remain scarce.

When asked if there was a possibility that Angelina left without permission, Esmeralda indicated that investigators do not believe this to be the case. “They don’t think she’s just gone without permission; they believe she is missing,” she said.

After visiting Angelina's barracks, Esmeralda reported that her daughter's belongings suggested she did not leave for good. "Her fan was still on, and she had personal items like food and a yoga mat untouched," she noted. Esmeralda also mentioned that no money has been spent from Angelina's accounts since the day she went missing.
I wonder if the other person she was with is a soldier and not a civilian? Does her Mom know who this person is?

After watching how the military conducted the investigation in the Mischa Johnson case in Hawaii. I’m a little jaded.

The family is worried because Angelina has experienced mental health struggles in the past. Investigators have looked into her mental health history, particularly a period last year when she faced suicidal thoughts. However, Esmeralda emphasized that they believe her daughter's current situation is different.

Despite her concerns, Esmeralda reported receiving little information from NCIS. “I asked them if they have her phone; they can’t tell me if they do or not,” she said, noting that such uncertainties lead her to fear the worst.

Where is Angelina? She didn’t just walk away from her life. Someone knows what happened to her.

Since Resendiz vanished, loved ones say the Navy has remained quiet and ambiguous about the search efforts.

"With all of the technology at the Navy's disposal, there is no reason for a sailor to go missing or stay missing," they stated.

They allege NCIS has refused to share any specific details with her, despite the base being a secured military facility with access to extensive surveillance and search resources.

The family now hopes to search the woods surrounding the base and is planning to organize a protest to call attention to how the military handles cases involving missing women.

I sympathize with Angie’s Mom 100%. Silence to her equals inaction. How frustrating for a parent!!

But many LE Agencies are equally tight lipped. I feel some families make the mistake of alienating instead of cultivating investigators. Organizing a protest is not going to help them gain trust.

Doesn’t the Military have a liaison they can connect her too for communication? How about a Chaplain?

Oh my! I think that is off base and that NCIS was on scene would not be a good sign.
NCIS only investigates off base if they believe enlisted personnel are involved. In this case, since the body wasn't identified, and there's a missing sailor they would be called to the scene until the person's identify is confirmed. If it's not the missing military member they would turn over all investigation to the local police. Too early to say at this point, but it doesn't sound good.

Yes, but NCIS doesn't "turn over " the case to locals. It is the local's case to begin with. The body was found, NCIS was brought to see if it was related to their investigation. The case is in the jurisdiction of the county, not the Navy.

Thanks for clarifyng, I wasn't clear on that. Yes, technically it's the local LE's investigation, but like the FAA/NTSB in aircraft accidents, I would imagine they run separate (independent) but parallel investigations. NCIS's jurisdiction extends to crimes that occur on and off military installations only when there is a DON (Dept of Navy) nexus.

Certainly multiple agencies conduct their own investigations. But if this is a murder that occurred off base, jurisdiction lays with the county, not the Navy. When there are military bases in a community, there are usually memorandums of understanding regarding prosecution of military people. And those memos vary but give the military the option to take prosecution of certain things if the county agrees. But a body found in the county is primarily under the jurisdiction of the Sheriff's Office, even if the deceased is a service member.

So sad. I wonder if the sailor in custody is the same one she had been with earlier.
I'm thinking yes, but we'll see. They aren't saying if the sailor is male or female just yet.
This is terribly sad, and I hate hearing that the suspect is a fellow sailor, but I did suspect it.
Sometimes there is that one who doesn't get the "honor" part of "Honor, Courage, Commitment".
Our female servicemembers are always having to watch their backs.
IMO.

I think many of us guessed this was going to be the outcome, including the involvement of another member of the military.

My thoughts are with Angie’s family, her poor Mom. I hate this outcome!!
