Family desperate for answers more than 7 months after Fargo woman's...
Her parents fear she may have become a victim of human trafficking because she is a vulnerable adult and hasn't been in contact with them since she disappeared in July.

Brenda was last seen at 1:30 p.m. July 12, leaving Centre Inc., a Fargo drug treatment facility at 3501 Westrac Drive. She was supposed to return by 4:30 p.m., but never did.

She has struggled with meth addiction and has a criminal history, including two felony convictions in May 2018 for possession of meth paraphernalia in Cass County. Her father said she is bipolar and should be on medication.

year after her disappearance, Fargo police say they're still trying to solve the case of 32-year-old Brenda Kartes.

She walked away from Centre Inc., a halfway house, and hasn't been seen or heard from family or friends since. Police, the state crime bureau, US Marshal's Service and Department of Homeland Security are working her disappearance.

They've conducted numerous interviews and checked phone, social media accounts and financial transactions.

Police are vowing to continue the search until Kartes is found.

Details of Disappearance
Kartes was last seen leaving Centre Inc., a drug treatment facility in the 3500 block of Westrac Drive in Fargo, North Dakota, at 1:30 p.m. on July 12, 2018. She may have been en route to Lindenwood Park at the time. She has never been heard from again. She left behind her car, identification, makeup, clothing and other belongings.

In Kartes's last post on her Facebook account, the day before her disappearance, she said she had a new boyfriend in Texas. It's possible she traveled there after she went missing. Her family doesn't know anything about the alleged boyfriend. Their theory is that Kartes met with foul play or was the victim of human trafficking. Her case remains unsolved.

Fargo Police announced Thursday morning that the human remains found near the river in south Fargo last week are those of 32-year-old Brenda Kartes.

On the one year-anniversary of Kartes' disappearance, her family said that in the days prior to her disappearance, Kartes told them she was scared. Her family said they didn’t know what was causing it, but Kartes told them she was very worried and fearful.

As of right now, there is no one in custody in relation to Kartes' death, but Fargo Police say they do have multiple persons of interest. They also say they believe there are several people who have information on what happened to Kartes.

Police said in a Monday, Oct. 7, Facebook post that the person had shared specific details of Kartes' death with others. Police did not release the person's name. They also said that there may be other people with firsthand knowledge of Kartes' final hours.
