Circumstances of Disappearance:
Hilbert was last seen leaving a café in Valley City, North Dakota around 2:00 a.m. on November 8, 1996. She was headed back to her farm near Gwinner, North Dakota and has never been heard from again.

On November 13, 1996, Hilbert's white pickup truck was discovered in the Sheyenne River. Authorities believe she overturned on a curve on Kathryn Road, sending her truck airborne before crashing through the ice on the river. Despite extensive searches of the river, Hilbert was never located.
