around 6:30 PM Wednesday, officers started a chase with a stolen pickup out of the Devils Lake area.
The male suspect then lead four officers on a chase through Rolette County.

A shootout then began when officers caught up to the pickup at a back roads intersection.

Two officers dead over a stolen truck. Just doesn't make any sense. It's a shame these officers died, but it's even more a shame they died because of a stolen truck. Is a high speed chase over a stolen vehicle really worth the lives of two officers?

I am assuming that LE new the criminal history of the suspect and felt that they were a danger to the public,and they were.

Deputy, 29, and suspect fatally shot after shootout in ND’s Rolette County, 2 other deputies on leave


Rolette County Sheriff’s Deputy Colt Allery was fatally shot.

Rolette County Sheriff Gerald Medrud said Allery, 29, had been working with the department for about three months. He previously worked for the Rolla Police Department and as a tribal police officer before joining the Sheriff’s Department.

Hall said his brother leaves behind a fiancee and four children.

Per popsicle' first link, http://www.wday.com/news/4201825-de...-shootout-nds-rolette-county-2-other-deputies, the last ND LE officer killed in line of duty was in Fargo, dispatched to a dom violence call in Feb 2016.

North Dakota, the 47th most populous state, ~757,000 residents in 2016.* Not even a year since that one, very sad.
