GRAND FORKS AIR FORCE BASE — A base-wide search is ongoing for a missing 18-year old military dependent after she left the family campground at Grand Forks Air Force Base sometime between Monday night, July 11, and early Tuesday morning, July 12, according to a news release.

Hailey R. Sullivan was last seen wearing blue jeans, the 5-foot 2-inch woman has brown hair and glasses. She is special needs with an intellectual disability and responds to the nickname Hei-Hei (pronounced "hey hey"), the release said.

Military members and volunteers are conducting a grid search on the installation, and those living in base housing and dormitories are asked to check all yards, garages and rooms, the release said.

The base asks that people report anyone matching this description to local law enforcement or Grand Forks Air Force Base command post at: 701-747-6711.

I hope they are also tracking anyone who left/checked out of the campground during that time. Hopefully with a K9 along just to do a sniff and verify she hadn't been inside any unit that left.

Most recent update is that the search has now expanded into the relatively vast rural area that surrounds the base. I live next door to North Dakota and the terrain is very familiar. Flat, green and wide. Tons of tall grass and plush trees at this time of year.

In fact, this is probably the worst time to have to search an area like Grand Forks because the wild grasses at their highest mid-summer and trees are fully bloomed.

Since they haven't said anything about her being with someone, this appears to be a voluntary singular disappearance. Clip of military members doing a human chain search in the fields here.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Grand Forks Sheriff's Office posted on social media about a possible sighting of Sullivan near Gilby. The town is about 16 miles northwest of Grand Forks Air Force Base.
