Hi, maybe it's different parts of the country. I live on the east coast and everyone I know, family and friends, has been cremated. And, they number quite a few, and most had made this decision prior to being deceased. Actually, where I am from, and also where I live in Florida, they are encouraging cremation, as they are running out of burial space. The Catholic Church used to be against cremation, but now it is perfectly okay to do, and in fact, the priest I know has encouraged it, as well. All JMO. Thanks, one and all. Katt

I had no idea just how common it was. Cremation is actually slightly more popular than burial.

The nation’s embrace of cremation marks a dramatic change from previous decades. In the 1970s, the cremation rate was just 5%. It rose to 27.1% in 2001, but has nearly doubled in the years since. Last year the U.S. cremation rate was 50.1%, according to the Cremation Association of North America (CANA), and in 2015, cremation rates outpaced burial for the first time.

More Americans Than Ever Are Choosing to Be Cremated

At about the 14:02 mark you can hear Mr Quick leaned over talking to CI & he says what sounds like, “we’ll get in touch with that other attorney for you.” Not sure what that’s all about either.

My guess is that CI was either unable to contact that attorney in time for his arraignment or the attorney wasn’t available to appear on such short notice. If that was the case, the court would have appointed one for this appearance.

Criminal defence attorneys aren’t cheap, and from what we know of CI so far, I'll be surprised if he can afford a private one. I expect he’ll be represented by a public defender if it ever goes to trial.

Thanks for the link! Snip from the article:

“Raising the rent is typically part of the day one purchase, because often the ‘mom and pop’ [previous, family-run owner of a park] has not raised the rent in years so it’s far below market.

“[The rents] do not go down, that’s one thing that’s a safe bet in the trailer park world. Our rents do not go down.

“We traditionally raise our rents by an average of 10% a year or something like that, and it’s pretty much true for the industry. Our world record [rent increase] went from $125 to $275 in one month.”

 that would likely drive someone into a murderous rage one day....

If that was the case I would think the other tenants would have mentioned it?? Maybe? Especially when the one guy was interviewed.

This is not my number one theory but I would state that different leases come up at different times as well, if they just did a major increase at each individual lease renewal time the neighbor may not have encountered one.

I would also say an increase may not be as big of a deal to one tenant but a very big deal to another. I mean we would all likely agree that most would not murder over such things either, or anything for that matter, no matter his reason.

Yet I would agree that if it was an overall increase at the same time for all, one would think it would be mentioned as a possibility but perhaps to the other tenant talking, it did not seem a big enough reason?

I have to admit that I truly wait to see what the motive was here, or the reason he perceived he felt wronged (in his perception). It seems it has to be related to the fact RJR was the management company but it would sure be a shock to find out it had nothing to do with it. I believe it did however.

After reading how the man who threw the boy over the edge at Mall of America was upset because women rejected him, I am going with a woman issue.

So many of the mass killers have women entitlement issues.

That's what makes this site amazing, I was not thinking in terms of how the different leases would term at variable times. Also, excellent point about income and affordability. You income combined with possibly expenses (kids, car payments, etc) would certainly factor in !

I don’t know if we are ever going to know for sure, but I think you are right!! I can’t shake the feeling that it’s going to link back to having something to do with his ex wife or his daughter.

:) It is only because I have friends in apartments who complain every time their lease comes up that rent goes up significantly and their leases come up at various times. There are usually options too, one can lock in for six months, a year, two years. I am not sure how this trailer park did it but if he was locked in for a few years and the lease came up, the change in rent could have been pretty significant since the last time he signed a lease.

He is also in a boat where he is the only income source where a couple at least would possibly have two jobs so he has no one to fall back on if say payments are not coming steadily at the chiropractic office and I am assuming he pays rent for that building as well and utilities for both home and business, etc.

Of course, this only applies if it was the catalyst for him. I myself think the dog or rule changes maybe occurring regarding dogs may be as likely.

jmo.

I keep thinking that the reason for the murders, in CI's mind, had to do with RJR managing the property. Yet they only began management when the owner purchased the trailer park this past fall. What transpired in those 6-7 months that could have enraged CI to the point of mass murder? Or, more likely, 1 person was his target and the others were in the wrong place at the wrong time. Rent increase, no pets, no outbuildings? Here in a nearby park in MN, outbuildings and pets are allowed, but not all places are managed the same.

My first thought was he made complaints about something needing repaired and it was not being done or done to his satisfaction. It appears he thought he was serving justice. I'm sure whatever the motive, it's not going to make sense.

Did LE ever release the order the victims were attacked?

I also think it's incredible the employees are being tight lipped. I don't believe there has been any statements made by the media by a "insider". Good for them.

Robert Fakler

Robert John Fakler, 52, of Baldwin, passed away Monday, April 1, with his close friends Bill and Lois Cobb and Adam Fuehrer at RJR Maintenance and Management in Mandan.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, April 9, at Bismarck Community Church, 1617 Michigan Ave., Bismarck, with Rev. Jared Lee and Chaplain David Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Robert was born to John “Jack” Conrad Fakler and Marie Rose Krous Gabel on February 20, 1967, in Dickinson. The family soon moved to Williston, where he grew up enjoying the outdoors, hunting, fishing, and anything to deal with agriculture. He spent many summers on the Krous Farm baling hay and working cattle and was president of the Williston FFA Chapter.

Robert met Jacqueline “Jackie” Joy Nasers his senior year at Williston High School and they both moved to Arizona shortly after graduation. They married on July 4, 1986, so they could always have fireworks on their anniversary and Robert could always remember the date. They were happily married for 33 years and had two children, Thomas “TJ” John and Jamie Michelle. As the family grew, Robert and Jackie moved back to North Dakota in 1994 to be close to family and friends.

Robert has always had the soul of an entrepreneur and has embarked on many adventures throughout his life. He started “Anything for a Buck” where he engineered/invented a new irrigation system and worked for a start-up fertilizer company. He had partnerships in a tackle company called “Master Angler Tackle” and a septic truck business called “RJ Septic.” All these experiences, including 17 years managing Mobile Home Parks, led him to find his passion in RJR Maintenance and Management.

Robert and Jackie purchased RJR in 2011 and opened the doors in January 2012 with a staff of three employees. His determination, dedication, and most important of all, hard-work ethic, grew RJR Maintenance and Management into a company of 33 employees, all of whom he considered his close family.

He also re-discovered his passion for agriculture leading to his dream hobby farm in Baldwin. He took great pride in his livestock and lived to share his joy for agriculture with his grandchildren who called him “Papa” and the cattle “Papa Cows." His last great venture was “RJ Short Horns” which he planned to build with his son-in-law, Joey, and grandchildren.

He was exceptionally proud of all his children for the accomplishments they fulfilled in life.

Robert is survived by his wife, Jackie; son, daughter, mother, three siblings, five grandchildren, uncle, RJR Employees; and many other extended family members and friends.

Robert was preceded in death by his grandparents, fathers, sisters, granddaughter, and uncle.

William Cobb Jr.

William Dee “Bill” Cobb Jr., 50, of Judson, passed away on April 1, 2019, with his soulmate, Lois Cobb, and dearest friends, Robert Fakler and Adam Fuehrer.

A memorial service was held April 9 at Bismarck Community Church with the Rev. Jared Lee and Chaplain David Johnson officiating. Cremation has taken place.

Bill was born Dec. 7, 1968, and raised by his grandparents in St. Louis, where he and his brother, Kevin, grew up together and always remained close friends as well as brothers. As they would say, “It’s all about the brothers.” They grew up gaining a love of Elvis Presley from their grandfather. Elvis’ music was pure passion and joy for them. He and Kevin even have matching Elvis tattoos.

Bill had numerous collectibles of Elvis and began Elvis impersonations called “Bill Cobb’s Memories of Elvis” in 2006.

Bill moved in 1987 to Illinois, where he enlisted in the Army on Dec. 29, 1987, and later he and Lisa Henderson were married, and the couple moved to Germany, where Bill was stationed. When they returned home to Illinois, their son, Tyler, was born in 1990 and their daughter, Amy, was born in 1995.

Bill and Lois met in 2008 and became inseparable. Bill proposed to Lois on the steps of Graceland, later saying “I do” on Nov. 13, 2010, at their home. When becoming a mixed family like the “Brady Bunch,” one of his favorite childhood TV shows, Bill gained two more children, Briann and Todd Miller, along with their fur baby, Presley. Shortly after their marriage, the lovebirds traveled to South Carolina prior to their permanent residency in North Dakota.

They believed North Dakota to be the best adventure they went on; becoming co-workers and family to everyone who worked at RJR. Recently, the couple had purchased their dream home and couldn’t wait to start their own family farm.

Bill’s greatest joy besides his children were his three grandchildren and dog, Presley. He loved being a grandpa and couldn’t wait for more grandchildren to help work on the farm. Friends recognized Bill as a true cowboy.

He had a huge passion for sports, specifically the St. Louis Cardinals and Blues, as well as the local hockey teams, the Bismarck Bobcats and Mizzou Athletics.

Bill was a strong and loving man and father, with piercing blue eyes and a laugh everyone loved. He will be missed by so many, especially his children, grandchildren and brother.

Bill is survived by his children, Tyler , Amy , Briann and Todd ; three grandchildren, Jensen , Taylin and Aubri ; brother, Kevin (Christy) and his loving dog, Presley.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandfather, Keith ; his grandmother, Vivian ; and his sister, Michelle.

Thank you for posting the obituaries, @Seattle1. I really appreciate getting a glimpse into the lives and personalities of the victims. It helps, in the midst of the grief and the necessary dissection of the perp, to have at least a moment to imagine and celebrate these people as the vibrant, unique souls they were. MOO.

CI robbed the community of real people.

I believe we will come to learn that each of his victims had something CI did not -- character, friends, love and empathy. CI did not think twice about his actions-- he was on a mission. MOO

Yes, thank u Seattle for posting those.

They were quite touching to read about the four innocent people going about their regular day at work, only to be slain by this ‘person’. Reading these brought back just how random death is. These people were probably all entering RJR with their own thoughts, concentrating on work duties/tasks at hand, making plans for after work or the weekend, anxious to get together with friends or family, etc. Thinking about anything but a nutcase entering/laying in wait to take their lives. It was just another day.....until it wasn’t. Makes me very melancholy thinking about it.

That's possible, but I personally doubt it. I suspect it was some kind of financial issue.

MHO and YMMV, of course.
