I won't be able to watch - so hopefully someone will be posting the tweets - or I could post them - if someone has a link to the person doing them?

TIA!

edited to add: I searched twitter for #chadisaak - but nothing came up....
Jury selection begins today so things should be quiet until they have a jury and court is ready for opening statements.

ETA: Looks like they expect jury selection to take two days with the trial beginning on Weds, 8/4.

KX News will be streaming the trial live from our website on the KX News Live Stream starting on Wednesday, August 4.

North Dakota man to stand trial in attack that killed 4

Aug 1, 2021

[.]

Isaak’s attorneys declined to discuss the case ahead of the trial, but court documents and public comments suggest they will argue that police did a shoddy job in their rush to gather evidence and that Isaak had no reason to commit the killings. No motive has been offered by police or anyone at the company.

Juries want to know why something happened, said Alex Reichert, a criminal defense lawyer from Grand Forks who has handled numerous homicide cases but who has no connection to the Isaak case.

“It sounds like they don’t know why,” Reichert said. “Can they get a conviction without a motive? Yes. There is no requirement for a motive. On the other hand, it gets very difficult in a circumstantial case without a motive. I haven’t handled a case with no motive before.”

Recapping day one of Chad Isaak’s trial

August 2, 2021

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Monday marked the first day of the trial for Chad Isaak, the man accused of murdering four people at a Mandan business in 2019. The trial started with jury selection which is scheduled for two days before opening arguments on Wednesday.

Judge David Reich, defense, and prosecutors spent all Monday questioning potential jurors individually. The individual process was to allow people the opportunity to tell attorneys what they already have heard about the case without influencing other potential jurors.
[.....]
At the end of the day, 20 people were approved by attorneys, but this is only the first round. The 20 selected will grow to 36 people tomorrow to form a jury pool. Attorneys will then whittle down the pool to a final jury of 12. After that, opening statements are expected to begin on Wednesday.

The trial is being held at the Morton County Courthouse beginning at 8:30 a.m. for the next three weeks.

Jury of 12 selected in quadruple homicide case; Chad Isaak trial to resume Wednesday with opening statements

Aug 3, 2021

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - A final jury has been selected in the trial of Chad Isaak, who’s accused of slaying four RJR employees in Mandan in 2019.

Unlike jury selection in many other cases where jurors are questioned in groups, the jury was selected by individual voir dire where attorneys questioned jurors one at a time so that they could freely speak about what they have heard about the case without influencing other jurors.

Judge David Reich does not intend to sequester jurors. Defense attorney Bruce Quick said that a sequestered jury is rare in North Dakota.

The jury is made up of 12 people and two alternates, which is standard for a case of this nature.

Isaak whispered to his attorneys in the final stages of selection when prosecutors and defense took turns striking potential jurors from the list.

Six men and six women make up the jury with one man and one woman serving as alternates. Some jurors have lived in Mandan all their lives while others moved into Mandan after the crime took place.

He's coming off as intimidating. Glaring almost.

The judge is giving jury instructions.

  • #495
He is watching, analyzing, and taking notes.

He's a cold fish.

Pros. Giving opening statement. Laying out the case. Defendant staring at the pros. with a look of contempt. Understandable I guess.

  • #497
Defense giving opening statement. Says there was pressure to solve the case, there was a rush to judgement, and confirmation bias. When you look at the evidence you will see the states case fall apart. Not verbatim.

SODDI defense. Because of the nature of being a property management business, there are plenty of other suspects.

  • #499
Defendant had no motive was a perfect citizen.

I've got to get my day going. Be back later.
