ND - Steven Riley Jr., 51, girlfriend accused of fatally poisoning him with antifreeze hours after he received $30 million inheritance, Minot, 5 Sep 2

  • #21
Friends of the boyfriend then began to report to the police that they believed Kenoyer had poisoned him, as she had made comments about poisoning him with antifreeze in the past.

A search warrant was then conducted on Kenoyer and her boyfriend’s residence which resulted in investigators finding an old Windex bottle without a cap that contained a bright green liquid in the living room. A glass Coors Light bottle and a plastic mug both containing the same liquid were found in the garage. The liquid was suspected to be antifreeze.

Kenoyer became upset when investigators told her that in North Dakota they do not recognize common-law marriage and that she would not be entitled to any of the money.

She then began to provide scenarios of how her boyfriend could have potentially ingested antifreeze, like if his cigarette fell into the antifreeze in the garage and then he smoked it.
What a genius, this woman. IMO. SMH.

According to Ryan, his dad had received an email from a person who claimed to be a lawyer of an unknown “distant relative” and organized to meet him at Minot Airport to sign off on the cash.

“He wasn’t suspicious before he went to the airport, but he was convinced he had inherited the money and was going to receive it when the supposed lawyer landed,” Ryan told The Post.

“But the supposed lawyer never showed up. It was a scam. It was a stranger who managed to trick my dad into believing it was true, unfortunately.”
*There never was an inheritance. Scammers are the lowest of the low! :(

Well, that’s a twist. But it makes more sense. I couldn’t figure it out.

Being dumb is not a crime. Murder is a crime.
Yes, my comment was in jest. However, the dumber you are, I think the greater probability you have of being arrested.

His friends indicated to police investigators that Riley was planning to break up with Kenoyer after he received the inheritance, the affidavit says. A friend of the couple's reported seeing Kenoyer throw Riley's property outside on Sept. 3 because she was mad the man was going to get his money and then leave her, the document states.

His friends told police that later that night, Riley declined rapidly, he complained that he felt drunk despite being sober, he had stomach pain, and he was falling over when he tried to walk. When the friends tried to get him medical attention, Kenoyer would not let them, insisting her boyfriend was suffering from heatstroke and needed rest, the affidavit said.

An hour later, Riley was vomiting, he could not walk on his own, and he was going in and out of consciousness, friends told investigators, according to the affidavit.

Kenoyer told investigators that she wanted to get him medical attention but that one of Riley's friends told her not to.

Kenoyer had reported that Riley was drinking alcohol "all day" Sept. 3, but no alcohol was found in his system, court records say. His friends reported that he did not show any signs of heatstroke, as Kenoyer had claimed. She also claimed she Googled the symptoms of heatstroke and noted to investigators that they can "mimic poisoning," the affidavit said; investigators also Googled the symptoms of heatstroke "and found absolutely no reference to 'mimicking poison.'"

The accused killer proclaimed her innocence in a series of nonsensical Facebook posts in the days leading up to her arrest, claiming Riley had killed himself.

“To the Shafer that almost hit me, that’s not married hello hunny I wish I was looking for someone but no I’m a one man woman, kind person, and Steve Riley the only man I ever wanted,” she said in a post three days before she was charged with murder.

So there never was an inheritance nor meeting with a real lawyer; it was a scammer? I wonder if he was first victimized by this scammer, sending them money for the "plane tickets?"... he goes to the airport and after a few hours realizes he was scammed - must have felt terrible - and then shortly thereafter he starts to feel ill from the antifreeze? (This is just my speculation about how it might have happened; what do you think?)

Such awful crimes, poor guy.

Almost certainly. The scammer probably told him he needed to spend a certain amount of money to claim the inheritance, say court fees etc. Kind of like the classic "Nigerian prince" scam. Scammers don't work for free.

We read so many horrific cases here...., as this is, with the loss of life of Steve, but sometimes the added hysterical stupidity does have to make us smile.

This should be broadcast--far and wide--- just for the awareness of how deadly these scammer schemes can be.

Smh.
Poor man died for nothing, it would appear.
Hoping fervently she's locked up for good.
Cruel betrayal to do this to a person who by all accounts was decent to her and trusted this killer.
Omo.

Awful, painful death for poor Steven !
Just had to ask ; What did he ever see in her ?
She looks angry and bitter. I realize this is after the fact.
(Paraphrased from the link) : "...planned to split the money ... with his son..."
Hmmm.
Wonder if anyone else was involved ?
Omo.

Rest in peace, Steven !

<modsnip>
was she in his will?

Hey folks,

Some comments about physical appearance have been removed; they are only really appropriate if they are somehow necessary to discuss an element of the crime.

Thanks !!

Rumour is that it blends well with gatorade.

it's supposedly very sweet unless bitterants are added, which is why kids and dogs will sometimes drink it by accident and get sick :(

Not all antifreeze has a foul taste. Only some states (US) require the addition of a bitter tasting chemical. However, adding the bitter taste does not reduce poisonings.

My understanding is he was poisoned and the gf was saying he was drinking to cover the symptoms of poisoning.
