Damn.

However, on this Thanksgiving, his family and friends are grateful he has been found and will be coming back to them.

It really sounds like freak series of misfortune events. The long walk, maybe doable in good weather. Better than violence. Better than broken fences. In good weather.

Video of him walking alone. No one following him, no one chasing him.

The text? That sounds like a wet phone to me.

How did he wind up where he did? Force of nature. Torrential rain.

The tragedy, that he didn't survive.

The miracle, that his remains were recovered at all.

Amid the swirling questions, may his family find beads of peace.

Sad, and the fact that the remains will be turned over to wife Baylee. I hope she turns them over to his mother, I don't have a lot of hope for that though. JMO

Nothing about about the location suggests a set-up or foul play. He likely slipped, went down hard, and couldn't get back out. I'm sorry for Chance, his family, Baylee (who has been dragged through the mud) and of course his little one. IMO

100% agree! And it was so unnecessary for his family, Baylee and their child to be put through this for years. He made stupid decisions that night. Nothing points to foul play. I hope people leave Baylee alone now. Such a nightmare.

He told the convenience store clerk he was heading home; back to his wife. It doesn't really make sense that he ended up where he was found. Believe what you want but the ending here does not make sense. People get away with murder every day.

I hope tomorrow's presser will give answers.
Where did he fall from? How far? What sort of injuries confirm a fall?

I with Chance's Mom on this one. I am finding it very hard to believe the COD is accidental.
Doesn't add up. Hooched up (or not) Chance was a rugged country boy. Doesn't add up.

Amateur opinion and speculation
I have to agree with you on this one. Especially after hearing the long time residents description of what it would have took to get to that specific spot. Although I can definitely see anyone using their phone maps to find a quicker path with the storms we were having that night..what doesn’t quite sit right with me is that not many people would continue on a path that difficult and dangerous during the freaking flooding and crazy storms that night. I don’t know something doesn’t add up imo.

In that case, it would be even harder for someone to dispose of a body there.

It would be hard to do it in the rain, but (and I'm speculating here) it doesn't mean Chance ended up where he was found that same night. I live in Nebraska and the place he was found would have been hard to climb to (the trails are on the other side of the monument) but easy to land on from above. The storms were truly awful that night - and I cannot imagine a scenario where one would think that a shortcut to Wyoming would be found climbing Nebraska's most challenging monument. I'm including a link to the monument: https://www.nps.gov/scbl

Following the North Platte River would have made infinitely more sense if one planned to walk to Wyoming, IMHO.

Edited to update link to the site.

The remains were discovered by a pair of hikers who initially found what they believed to be human skeletal remains; law enforcement was contacted immediately and took control of the scene. After an extensive investigation, including multiple agencies, evidence confirmed what the pathology report stated; that Chance had died as a result of a fall. It was further determined the distance from where the fall occurred ranges from approximately 130 feet at the shortest point to 290 feet where the torso was discovered.

The cause of death was listed as “a pattern of blunt force trauma most consistent with a rapid deceleration event including, but not limited to, a fall from height.”

Investigators determined the fall occurred from a distance ranging from approximately 130 feet at the shortest point to 290 feet where the torso was discovered.
