Nothing explains why Bailee ran to court to declare her husband dead.[/QUOTE
I don't believe she went to court. She simply asked about how to do this. Someone in her immediate circle may have simply said to her that she would have to do this to obtain any benefits. I, myself, wouldn't put much intent into the comments of a young mother, whose husband cannot be found and is profoundly shaken by the events of the moment.MOO MOO MOO

If you don't have much income, declaring him deceased would at least get you SSI.

Would you provide a link that says this, please. TIA

It is mentioned in the interview with Lyn and Chance's best friend, and it is talked about in the Vanished podcast as well.

Declaring a person deceased without a body involves a court which is going to cost a few thousand dollars, at least. . Also, multiple copies of death certificates are needed and each copy is sold to you. We spent a couple hundred dollars on the paper copies alone when our family member died last year.

I think the precipitous quest to obtain a death certificate speaks to a certainty, knowledge. I would like to know why.

amateur opinion and speculation

Thanks for posting that podcast again. I wanted to see what y’all were talking about so I started listening to it for the 3rd time it’s about 14:00-16:00 that they talk about it.

Summary (Dawn Engelbert—Chance’s mother speaks): Captain Rodgers calls a meeting with Chance’s wife and mother. They both go in. He informed them that after an extensive search nothing has been found. Dawn is devastated. Bailee asks Captain Rodgers how she can get a death certificate for Chance. Captain Rodgers tells Bailee that he believes that Chance is alive. Dawn says that she didn’t know what to make of the comment and felt that Bailee knows more.

Yes, and in my opinion grieving, worried family members don't have death certificates on their mind. Well, at least let's just say it probably isn't the norm.

I'm not saying anyone did or didn't, but I am saying that someone is hiding something. That much I think is true.

I agree it was a weird statement, and I agree that we are missing pieces to the puzzle. I’m not even sure that Bailee is hiding something (consciously); she seems to have rose-tinted lenses about Chance/marriage and doom-and-gloom lenses about other people in her life. She minimizes some things and catastrophizes other things. I like Bailee and I’m not trying to be rude or judgmental about her (or any other family members), but she does come come off as a lot more immature than 20 years old. Chance’s behavior also seems a little immature for 24.

On the other hand, if I am 100% honest, if everyone knew some of the things me and my husband have fought about and done in our relationship, when we were 20-24, they would get the impression that we were just as bad and worse. Especially the emotional intensity of marriage and the birth of your first child can make anyone a little off.

Great post. Very wise. God forbid any of us become a subject of such scrutiny.

Do we know what the argument with the in-laws was about?

I suppose someone does but it never was reported by MSM so can't be discussed here.

I remember it being posted on here but deleted by mods. Was interesting to say the least, if that's what it was actually about.

Baylee has filed for trusteeship of the estate.

PETITION FOR TRUSTEESHIP

ETA: I am in the 'Baylee is innocent' camp. I'd probably have shot through the door at someone by now if I was she.

I am not in 'anyone's is innocent' camp. I just want Chance found. I do understand why you stated that, because you were posting info that some might consider as proof of her guilt. But, after this length of time, legal matters do need to be taken care of.

Many prayers Chance, I know you are just waiting to be found. God bless you Baylee, may He keep you and your son safe from all the nuts in the world.
