NE NE - Jason Jolkowski -19 - Omaha - 13 Jun 2001 - #4

The co-worker was questioned and cleared. She came from the restaurant to Benson then back to the restaurant, so not really sure how someoneone would have time to tag along with her. And for what motive really? Jason and her were just co-workers, probably not even friends, just through work. They graduated Benson high the same year though. She doesn't have a brother but don't know of any relationships she may have had at the time. I actually reached out to her a couple years ago on Facebook but she never answered back.
Do we know for sure she was coming from the restaurant and wasn't coming from her place of residence or somewhere else? I can't recall ever seeing a source stating she was coming from work, that it was just assumed she was coming from there.

I think it's around 75/25 Jason was abducted vs some kind of accident where his body ended up concealed. Perhaps he was trying to help a trapped animal and ended up stuck. Other than that, it's hard to see how something like that could have happened considering the locale, not anything resembling a rural area, and it was a walk to school he had made hundreds of times already. If there was work being done, there likely would have been public works employees around as well.

The sighting of him near the gas station across from the school is credible in my view. The person who reported is was/is very clearly from that area and felt certain they saw someone strongly resembling Jason, clothes included.
<modsnip - not an approved source> I looked online at that area and there was a tunnel nearby under the main road between the school side and the gas stn. side that he could have taken if Jason did walk that way. It looks like the tunnel was further along. It has since been closed up I think. At any rate, there are several remains including a skull that were found within about a half hour of Omaha over the years, which I don't think have been id'ed yet. It is a frustrating case for sure.

Also, most videos I have seen, that predict the path he might have walked, show them meeting up on the South side of the high school, which is the teachers lot. Most students were used to larger student parking lot on the North side of the building. That would even put him further from the gas station.

Possible. AFAIK, it's not 100% clear how much cash JJ supposedly had on his person when he left that day. I'm actually not sure where this info. even came from. Did he tell his brother/parents that he was going to take $50-$60 in cash with him when he went to work?! I.e., this info. may just be anecdotal.

If he was actually carrying that much, I agree it's a lot to have on you - for that era especially.

These days, almost no one carries any cash anywhere.
And his wallet was left at home? So $60 just in his pocket? If so-I'm thinking maybe he DID go into the gas station-took out a wad of money to pay for something-say gum, soda, water, etc. , and this made him a perfect target for a mugging. Maybe he fought back and was injured/killed in a scuffle. Thrown into a car and disposed of?...

Could it be possible that when the girl was talking on the phone about picking him up at the school, someone overheard and decided to intercept, drove there and saw him walking and said a lie like "hey are you Jason? The girl sent me to pick you up, she couldn't make it". Someone with a jealous grudge or something. I remember reading that the coworker who was going to pick him up was not at the restaurant at the time, she was home. So maybe she had a weird/jealous/insane boyfriend or something that overheard the conversation. It seems highly unreasonable killing someone, just because your girlfriend offered him a ride to work, but who knows

I have been a silent reader of this case and I had to write a paper over it in one of my college classes. The one thing that I can not get out of my head is the red t shirt he was holding. You would think if he was forced anywhere he would immediately drop the t shirt or the t shirt would be discovered. Same goes for all the articles of clothing he was wearing that day. They are somewhere in this world.

Quite possibly buried in someone's wall or crawlspace with the rest of him. Maybe in a home that he walked into willingly that day.

I don't recall ever reading where the coworker was when she talked to Jason on the phone, at home or at work. I had always assumed she was at work, but not sure!

Any chance of uploading your paper? What did your professor have to say?

I can try and find the paper, if i remember right my professor didn’t have much to comment.

Back to the articles of clothing, the items Jason was wearing that day were considerably unique. The Cubs apparel and a company t shirt. Maybe the person involved with Jason’s disappearance took an item to treasure? After all these years, the items Jason was wearing still look the same and are trapped in 2001. Unless of course, someone destroyed them.

Be careful uploading the paper if personal names of Jason's relations and friend have not been redacted or the site might take it down. I've seen them remove videos for the same reason. I have had posts removed because I used names. Try to reference them as father, mother, brother, neighbor, etc...

It's probably not related, but I see that police have recently made an arrest in a cold case from this area of Omaha. According to the article,

"Omaha Police announced an arrest Wednesday in a 46-year-old double-murder case.

Abdulmalik Husain, 67, who OPD said had previously been known as Louis Walker, was booked into Douglas County Corrections on Wednesday, charged in the deaths of 26-year-old Deroshia Matthews, a former Clifton Hills teacher’s aide at from Jackson, Miss., and her 7-year-old son, Kamal, who was a second-grader at the school.
According to the police report, two officers responded to a report of a possible abduction and burglary on the morning of Tuesday, April 24, 1979, at a home near 42nd Avenue and Binney Street."

Omaha Police make cold case arrest in 1979 murders of boy and his mother

42nd and Binney is just three blocks from Holy Name Catholic Church where Jason regularly attended.

The article goes on to say that Husain was living in Aurora, Colorado in 2004, but had an Omaha address in 2019.

From the article @MangoCove posted:

“Wednesday’s update from police said recent DNA testing had led to Husain’s recent arrest by the OPD Cold Case Squad. But he had been previously arrested — as Louis Walker — on charges relating to the Matthews’ death in January 2004 in Aurora, Colo.”

So he’d been on their radar for quite awhile. I wonder what happened with the 2004 arrest, and whether there was any prior relationship between ‘Louis Walker’ and Deroshia Matthews. Killing a random woman and child as part of a simple burglary seems excessive, but of course not unheard of.

According to this article, "Walker and Deroshia Matthews had met at a community event and kept in touch after that.
Walker was interviewed as a person of interest multiple times as police investigated the Matthews’ murder more than 40 years ago."

About the case in 2004, "the Douglas County Attorney’s office dismissed those charges without prejudice, meaning authorities could still go back and investigate the case.

“The prosecutor at that time, it seems, thought there was an issue with regards to some of the evidence and the production of that evidence,” [Douglas County Attorney Don] Kleine told First Alert 6 on Wednesday."

Bond denied for man arrested in 1979 Omaha cold case

I don't have access to this entire Omaha World Herald article unfortunately, but based on the brief preview, they are saying that the charges were dropped 20 years ago due to a clerical error.

Thanks for the refresher, dotr.
You learn something everyday. I hadn't noticed before that dentals are listed as not available. This surprises me, as I'm thinking he had dental care in his lifetime, and his dentist could still be around, at least in the beginning of his disappearance, in order to obtain them. So I wonder if the "not available" is incorrect.

His mom worked for a company that had good health insurance, at the time. I find it hard to believe they don't exist. (I can't remember where he worked. He is retired now.)

I would have to believe that they have never requested his dentals because they have not found a close enough match out there to need them, but then again, you'd think they would obtain them before they can't.
