It was trash day. Accident involving a garbage truck?

Googling garbage trucks killing pedestrians, i found that it does seem to happen with some frequency, although i have not found one where the personnel tried to hide it by stashing the body. It would be interesting to know if any of those workers that day remember seeing Jason.
Any chance he forgot something needed for work at home and headed back, or took a detour to a store for something?
imo.

Eta, those kind of accidents tend to be messy and evidence on the road would be hard to cover up, imo.

The trash collectors had already been there and collected the garbage. So, Jason was taking in the freshly emptied cans, not carrying them out in wait for the truck.

Does this case drive anyone else crazy?

I can't just can't see a likely motive. He was too old, too tall and the wrong sex for an abduction.

No he wasn't. We have already gone through this before, my friend.:P
It would be a serious mistake to assuredly rule out such a possible crime on the standpoint that he 'was too old, the wrong sex and too tall', as it is a statement repeatedly disproven by crime history itselft.
Regarding the size, I have earlier mentioned the serial killer Patrick Kerney who was only 5,5 short, yet repeatedly chose adult males of greater size, simply because of the fact that he could do it, as he did not rely on force(something which most predators of this type neither do, but on luring and drugging).

A few examples of predators who neither cared about age, neither were dependant on use of violence during the stage of abduction, are:

Gacy, of course, with his oldest victim being 26-year-old Jeffrey Rignall (who survived only becaue he was not burried)

Dean Corll: 28+ victims, males ranging in ages between 13 - 20

Robert Berdella: Males ranging in ages from 19 to 25.

William Bonin also known as the Freewaykiller as he always cruised around with his van looking for lone-walking males to offer a ride: 21-36+ victims ranging in ages up to 19.

Randy Steven Kraft: Likewise called The Freewaykiller & Scorecardkiller with 16-67 victims: Quote: "..... committed the rape, torture, mutilation and murder of a minimum of 16 young men in a series of killings spanning between 1972 and 1983, the majority of which had been committed in California. Kraft is also believed to have committed the rape and murder of up to 51 further boys and young men. "

Et cetera, et cetera.

As earlier said, this type of perpertrator usually do not have a fixed age-preference regarding the victims- that is, they usually do not hunt specifically little boys as is otherwise often believed, but rather their most common criteria is that it must be young males. Whether then boys or adult males in their twenties is irrelevant for them.

We must also keep in mind that this only concerns the actual serial predators, and not the one-time perpetrator of a single victim, which do neither even need to be an actual premediated crime.

I know someone will post stories about grown-men being kidnapped but by and large it's a rare occurrence, and there's nothing to suggest a criminal element to Jason's disappearance. Suicide or runaway also sound equally unlikely. dotr has offered an alternative theory but it's a long shot. I still think there could be a connection to his workplace, as Jason was called into work early and planned to start a new job the following week, but it's a complete dead-end. At this point, Jason falling down a manhole is more plausible than anything else.

Hah! I declare myself guilty!:P But that is because it is such an important topic that many people are very ill informed about, and not to be stubborn.
You are absolutely right that the frequency of this type of crime is, by obvious reasons, less occurrent regarding males than adult females, but it is a big mistake to from there take the step to equal "less often" with "rare" and "unlikely".

When it then regards specifically the case of Jason's disappearance, there is also an unsettling element in it that is repeatedly found in the modus operandis of such perpertrators; namely that he was 1) lone-walking, and 2) that it is assumed that he was lured into someone's car:
Jason was a young adult male and unlike a child, he would have somehow made a scene if someone was attacking him. This gives the impression that he was lured under false pretenses, possibly with someone he trusted. He was described as a very trusting individual who seen the good in people. Maybe someone offered him a ride and he accepted?[/QUOTE] https://letsfindthem.wordpress.com/2013/03/10/project-jason-the-disappearance-of-jason-jolkowski/

However regarding the work connection you mentioned, I had a briefer communication with Kelly earlier this summer, and she informed me that the work connection had since long been cleared and was no longer an angle.
This is good as it limits the alternatives so that other angles can be focused on the stronger, although it must be kept in mind that it only rules out involvement by the staff, and not, for example, the possibility of a recurring guest having targeted him (Jason).

For example, it would still be very interesting to know exactly what made the police take the decision to search through the house of the neighbor accross the street and interrogate him.

With all this said, I still hope for the possibility that the initial belief that he left willingly would be what happened, despite the ominous looking details of the case pointing to another direction. It is unfortunately difficult to judge the possibility of such an impulsive leave when not knowing the full extent of how he functioned psychologically. However given that Kelly at least earlier admitted such a possibility of a willing leave, the chance apparently at least exists, which offers hope.

Not something we used to hear about, although not terribly uncommon now, but, maybe a woman scooped up Jason?
He has a sweet face and apparently a personality to match, who knows- maybe an older woman wanted to keep him as her own, either as a " son " or as a romantic interest?
He could be ashamed, brainwashed, in another country, or unable to contact his family after all these years, perhaps worried that he and someone he "loves" would get in big trouble?
speculation, imo.

I posed something similar a few pages back, since I read he was expecting a female to pick him up.
I wonder if a female patron overheard the conversation and headed him off at the pass?
Did they call him Jason or JJ at work? Does anyone know for certain? Like, what his name tag said?

You know, I have occassionally touched on that thought, too.
Cases of females who have in some fashion "kept" a male have certainly happened, so the possibility of course exists, and I can easily see how someone with a hindered understanding of proper social behaviours would find him charming and consequently want to "keep" him.

What you said about perhaps being in another country, or too ashamed or brainwashed to contact his loved ones was quite interesting.

It made me think of an article I found recently about an exposed ring that preyed on male victims for human trafficking. The males had been lured into coming to the United States under the promise of a new and well payed job but instead ended up imprisoned in windowless rooms all year round, with one of the victims describing how he, when finally released after the Police got wind of the ring, was too ashamed after his ordeal to be able to face his family again.

The only problem with this scenario is that to my knowledge, these victims were groomed on gay sites, which seems totally unlike Jason to have frequented, from the little I have learned about his personality. I do not refer to his orientation as I know nothing about it (although I have pondered it, as it could potentially be of significance regarding types of possible contacts of relevance), but to engage in similar contact-activities on the web, if any web-activities at all, do not seem to fit his person, so to speak.

Wonder if any contacts of relevance, whether male or female, could potentially have been stored in his mobile. It is truly a petty that the mobile disappeared together with him. Mayhaps had there been some clues.

I've reached the conclusion he entered a vehicle with someone he knew, and probably someone older than him. Perhaps he did get into a vehicle with a woman who later murdered him.

Does Jason's case remind anyone else of Steven Koecher? A young, nice (but a bit innocent/naïve) man from a stable, loving, religious family disappears on foot, with no trace of him whatsoever. It just struck me today, the similarities.

Interestingly, they have even looked into the possibility that he might have been with a missing woman.

Law enforcement have pursued several leads in the case, even exploring an allegation that Steven ran away with Susan Cox Powell, who went missing one week prior.

Koecher disappeared in December 2009. The last known day he was seen, footage of him was captured on the surveillance camera of a Henderson resident in the neighborhood where he disappeared.

For an unknown reason, Koecher had driven from St. George to Henderson, parked his car in the Sun City Anthem neighborhood, walked down a street and was never seen or heard from again.

Jason's case reminds of a whole bunch of similar disappearances; Reed Jeppson, Pierre Pahlke, Christopher James Harvey, Eugene Martin.....And so on... All of them simply just disappeared during what would just be a short errand and has never been found since.

Very interesting find, Dot.

Thanks, but it was actually Kristin83 who brought up the similarity with Steven Koecher's disappearance.

Just came across this troubling, but unrelated news item. Posting it due to earlier speculation about the possibility of a female perp.

Meaning Susan Powell who was murdered and later her two children? But I don't see her name mentioned in that article. The article that comes up is dated May 15, not May 17, I scrolled all the way down, is there another link? TIA

Josh Powell's father says Susan ran away with missing Utah man

By Aaron Falk And Sheena McFarland The Salt Lake Tribune

Published December 6, 2010

A year after his wife's disappearance, Josh Powell and his family are advancing a theory about what happened to Susan Cox Powell.
For a year, the families of Susan Powell and Steven Koecher have searched and grieved.

Now Josh Powell and his father say two of the state's most notable missing person cases from last year are more than just parallel, they're intertwined.
It's the most specific Josh Powell and his father, Steve Powell, have been in theorizing what might have happened to Susan.
On the website run by the Powells, Josh and Steve make their case: Susan Powell and Koecher are about the same age, members of the LDS Church and both were in West Valley City during the week of their disappearances in December 2009. The website alleges that Susan Powell and Koecher absconded to Brazil, where they potentially married and started a new life.
Family members of both Susan Powell and Koecher say there is no truth to the story.

How extensively did they search through Jason's computer, phone and all phone records? Chat rooms were really big back in 2001, and I don't believe there would have been any way to capture previous conversations. I wonder if he met someone on line.

I was very fortunate to have Jason's mother, Kelly Murphy, on my show recently. It's about a 40 minute interview.

https://itunes.apple.com/us/podcast/unfound/id1151955197?mt=2

Thank you for that awesome interview and for helping keeping the case alive!
I hope that as many people in the thread as possible will listen to it.

By the way, just in case someone would experience difficulties with the Itunes links, I take the liberty to also attach the following alternative link: https://player.fm/series/unfound/unfound-jason-jolkowski-the-cubs-fan-who-didnt-come-home

In case anyone for some reason did not listen to the interview, we learned some new things that I think was really helpful to know.
For instance, we learned that Jason was very reluctant to physical alterations, and would not have put up a fight in the first place. I do not know if this meant that he would have fought if he felt he had to, or if it meant that he would have avoided doing so even then. In any case this was something that I had often wondered about earlier; how likely he would have been to respond physically to a threatening situation and/or to a situation he experienced as upsetting, as such information would help to exclude versus include certain scenarios, so that information was very appreciated.

Secondly, and this was news to me, we learned that there were actually several registered sex offenders living both in and around the neighborhood area; one of those apparently only nearby to the house of Jason and his family (I wonder if this offender who lived the nearest was also the guy whose house had been searched that I mentioned at an earlier occasion, that would be very interesting to know).
These were all interrogated, however, and apparently nothing came out of it, but it is still notable.

Another thing of interest was the revelation that an elderly man at Jason's old work apparently had the hots for youngsters and used to invite over young males to his home. However this man was also interrogated and nothing pointing to a connection to Jason's disappearance was found there either. Nevertheless that was news to me.

In this connection, by the way, I really appreciated that Kelly took the opportunity to point out that people love jumping to conclusions and go like; "Jason was male, 6'1 and weighed so and so much and therefore he could not possibly be a victim (to certain types of crimes)", when in reality anyone can fall victim and, as she put it, "not only cute little girls" as people tend to assume.
This is also what I have been saying all along.

It is also worth to once again point out that, as earlier said, it was also mentioned in this interview that the "people at the restaurant" (apparently referring to the staff) were cleared from suspicion, as many people wonder about that.

Oh and yes; the case of Samuel Sherman was also brought up, but nothing could be made of it because of the very sparse information.
Kelly had apparently tried to get more information on it and also asked the investigators whether it could be related, but they were unable to say one way or the other.
But at lest it was brought up.

A positive part was nevertheless to hear that the investigators had, in retrospect, apparantly done a good job at attempting to make up for the initial and very unfortunate lack of assistance, and had done a very thorough investigating job since, even doing a second investigation and re-intrerrogating everyone anew.

Yet, it is of course at the same time unsettling that the old veteran cop with 30 years experience who had worked on the case originally, concluded that; "In my whole entire career, there has never been a case as baffling as this one".
At the same time that does of course not mean that it will remain unsolved.
One can only hope that the future will some day finally reveal the answers.
Meanwhile, let's keep the case alive and dig on for anything that could be of potential help to assist in the search for those answers.

Again, great work with the interview!

I am relatively new here so unsure as to whether this is already discussed and sorry to bring up another case on Jason's thread however it may be related but does anyone have ANY information on Samuel Sherman? i.e. photos or anything other than the general info found when looking into Samuel's disappearance? Thank you.

The scant information about Sherman is listed here, it is a short list, hopefully more can be added one day soon.
