8-year-old Kerra Wilson was reported missing from Mitchell, Nebraska on Wednesday, September 21. Her stepfather reported that he dropped her off at school, but Kerra was absent from school and not seen on any video surveillance. The FBI joined the investigation the next day. Friday, September 23, Kerra's stepfather was charged with murder and sexual assault in relation to her disappearance. Her body was found that day, on a ranch several miles north of Mitchell.

Precious pictures in opening post. But, look at them. Poor, poor little Kerra. She has a sweet smile, but is not letting her teeth show. At the beginning of this, a description of Kerra said that her front teeth where crooked. Poor baby. She tried to hide them, and now will never have a chance to have them straightened, giving her an even more beautiful smile. She would have been so proud and happy with her new smile.

This is so depressing.

You know... when I saw the link to the second thread... my first thought was:

"Wow... Missing... Found AND someone Charged ALL in one thread.
I wish they all ended HAPPILY... but I also wish that they were all FOUND in ONE thread."

Maybe that is just me always looking for the silver lining...

So beautiful. So young. Will it ever end.

Rest in peace beautiful Kerra. No one will ever hurt you again.

I just don't get it! :(

I'll never understand how someone can do these things to a child. Its not always a step father, boyfriend, or friend but it seems to be more of them than fathers. When will women start being super careful who they allow into their lives and especially who they allow into their children's lives.

I'm sure its not always possible to know ahead of time but maybe there are subtle signs that women should start watching for and waiting for that relationship. Don't be so quick to jump into one.

I should say that goes for men too!

I think that the only way to try and stop the murders of children is to have stricter laws. One strike and your out! There is no reason to harm a child at all. Kerra is yet another child taken from this world too soon and these murders will continue until people are held accountable for their actions.

Kerra will be the one that always affects me. I know here at WS we each have "one" that will always stay with us even if we decide not to follow another case. Kerra looked just like me when i was little and I could relate to her (yes, even thru a picture) so much. I had very high hopes that she was as independent as I was and just ran away.
I'll never forget her and pray she is smiling for real with the Lord and at a peace that none of us will realize until we someday meet her...

That is such a "kid" thing to do isn't it. I remember I had a gap in between my two front teeth and all my pictures at her age show me smiling like her- always with my mouth closed.

Precious girl will never be able to get some cute pink braces. I am crying thinking about it.

She's really touched my heart. I hope she can feel all of our love. I hope she is showered with love for all eternity.

Bringing this link on this thread as info on case. Is first degree murder his only charge?

A suspect in a capital murder case waived his right to an attorney and a preliminary hearing Monday morning in Sioux County Court... Salvador Carl Lopez, 32, made his initial appearance in the Harrison court on a charge of first degree murder in connection with the death of his stepdaughter, Kerra Wilson, 8.

So far.. when it was first announced they had mentioned sexual assault but maybe they jumped the gun and are now waiting for hard evidence...

Wilson lived with her mother and stepfather in southern Sioux County and attended third grade at Mitchell Elementary School. She was reported missing at 3 p.m. Sept. 21 by her grandmother. According to an affidavit filed with the county court, school officials contacted Wilson’s mother, Amanda Lopez, to inquire about why she was not in class. The affidavit does not indicate what the mother’s response was when she was notified her daughter was not in school. It says only that she told officers she went to work around 11 a.m.
So step-dad must not have to be to work until 8:30? I have to go back and find the link to the video, but one news story said step-dad had performed ditchrider work at the ranch Kerra's body was found at.

I think we may see additional charges filed after the forensics come back

Can they add a charge after he is already set up for a trial? Maybe he waived his right to an attorney and preliminary hearing so they would drop that charge. That couldn't be right because what would stop him from obtaining a lawyer anyway?

But, if that were the case, why didn't he go ahead and plead guilty right then and there? Didn't they say he had already confessed?

Is he an American citizen?

Yes, they can add charges. If they found evidence of sexual assault or abuse, they would certainly add that to his 1st degree murder charge. I'm curious what makes it per-meditated?

LE said he is in this country legally. Whether that means he is a citizen, resident alien or on a visa, who knows?

I have never seen a perp confess, refuse an attorney and waive his right to a hearing. If I had to guess, I think it means he knows he is caught and wants to avoid all the preliminary appearances in court. I think the next time he appears in court we'll see a plea deal, LWOP most likely.

It makes me wonder too though, if all of this is his way of protecting Mom?

Advocates use Facebook for Kerra cause
By: KAY GROTE, Staff Reporter

Decades ago, when tragedy struck, neighbors rallied at local gathering places or on each other’s front porches to plan, to pray, to grieve.

But modern society’s front porch is now Facebook, and since the onset a week ago of circumstances related to 8-year-old Kerra Wilson’s disappearance and death, people have rallied for purpose, hope, and support, often with people they have never met.

Last Wednesday, only hours after Wilson was officially declared missing in Mitchell, child advocates established a Facebook page dedicated to finding Kerra Wilson. The site administrators, a child advocate and mother of five in Yoder, Wyo., and a father of one of Kerra’s classmates in Mitchell, said it was all they could do as they were determined to do something. Neither had ever met face to face.

“This whole situation has hurt a lot of people and left a lot of people feeling helpless,” Gladson said. “This terrible outcome is not what I was hoping for. But I believe good can still come from bad. You have to take tragedy and turn it into something graceful.”
