Snick, I dont' guess we would be lucky enough to watch the trial on live streaming thru a Local tv station, would we? Glad the trial is coming up soon so the families can hopefullly get closure....if there is such a thing as closure when one's family members were so brutally murdered. :(

I would love to follow this case more closely than I have time for. Fascinating how someone can get through med school- and go completely off the rails in their personal life as to murder (at least) four innocent people because of one's own failings.

(I think there are other victims of this guy, unrelated to his residency failures. MOO)

Well check this out...

Garcia's trial may be delayed AGAIN. He is now claiming sexual assault from jail staff. Someone said earlier that as a doctor he will know how to fake symptoms and this may be what is happening.
To tell the truth if they find him to be insane and incapable of trial, that's fine with me, so long as he stays put away. Problem is, he might not and his attorneys know this.

Oh brother! He claims he was gang raped, by five correctional officers!

I have thought that all along- this was not his first trip to the rodeo. I assume some research has been done connecting where he has lived to unsolved similar crimes. If LE has found any possible links they may be sitting on them until he can-hopefully- be convicted then try to clear some cases.

Oh good night! What an idiot!

I could easily buy him being deranged and perhaps even incapable of being tried. Fil of him is on local TV almost daily here and IMO he looks several bricks short of a load. Sort of like the Colorado shooter. My only concern is that he not be left in a situation where he could ever get out again. I feel so much for the victims' families in all of this. Dragging this out is so cruel and unjust.

I agree. I've always wondered if he was responsible for killing the Dr. in NOLA. The Dr. was found stabbed to death and a fire was set at his home in the French Quarter. IIRC, I posted a link that is buried somewhere in this thread.

Brief update, such as it is.

I really doubt Garcia will EVER go to trial. This case appears bogged down in a legal quagmire. His attorneys seem determined to keep it that way, which is perhaps good strategy for them. As I have said, I would prefer to see him tried and a verdict rendered but at least so long as he stays locked up maybe that is as good as it gets in an imperfect world.

I do wonder if he was involved in prior slayings and I would bet LE is not overlooking that.

I think you are speaking of Dr. Ralph Edward Newsome Jr's murder.
Here is the WS link: http://www.websleuths.com/forums/showthread.php?91018-LA-Dr-Ralph-Newsome-45-New-Orleans-31-Oct-2009
Here is a link to press about the murder.

I'm thinking he is not involved in other murders.

He seems to have been solely focused on revenge, that even after killing the little boy and maid, he waited and re-plotted for years to came back and finish the job.

When actually, I would think killing the son would have caused more anguish for the father and that would have been a greater revenge than killing the doctor himself. He had gotten away with it.

But couldn't be satisfied with that.

I think once he finished his revenge in Omaha, then he would have started looking around at other people who wronged him, but he just doesn't seem (to me) to be the type of guy who could multi-task several murder plots at a time, and I don't see him as a random type of killer.

I don't think he killed Dr Newsome but I do think it is possible for him to have killed others that he felt "did him wrong".

I recall one of his relatives making the comment that Garcia just could not let things go. He was still upset over some girl that dumped him in High School. So no, I don't think he would have stopped after Omaha. In fact I think he's probably still planning revenge on a new bunch of folks now.

Is anyone interested in my posting updates on the trial starting next week?

I know there are a few still following this story but apparently not many. That is understandable once an arrest is made. Just don't want to be talking to myself on here. :)

I'm listening. Maybe a local station is tweeting the trial or will the trial be open for streaming?
