NE - Omaha Double Murder #3 - *Arrest Made*

  • #521
I know who you refer to as the tough SOB, and he is. At the outset I think mistakes were made by the original investigators but these guys now are relentless and they will catch this creep. If this is the same perp he made a big mistake if he killed again- from what I have heard the Dundee crime scene although as you say, grisly, was remarkably free of evidence. That's hard to replicate again. If this is the same guy the chances of catching him went up tenfold when he did this.

I also think that Dr B's announced move may have been the catalyst for this crime. Whoever this is felt the window was closing and Dr B needed to be taken out before he left Omaha. Maybe the perp felt Dr B had figured out who he was and would spill the beans once he was no longer on staff. Much of the focus in the past here was on Dr Belenky. IMO he is a possible suspect but for some reason he never fit in, in my mind. My thinking lately has shifted to closer to home, someone at CU or maybe a disgruntled former pathology resident. I know that was probably
looked into however. Glad to have you here!
Someone in Omaha IMO...

All,
I have followed this case since day one. My family is in LE and has connections through out Omaha. 1st, I can confirm the LT. in charge of the cold case squad was at this scene. He is one tough SOB. I can also confirm various federal agencies have been brought in through out the investigation of both cases. I can confirm as well that OPD has been literally, all over the world. From my sources the 2008 crime scene was one of the most,"grizzly," scenes they have ever scene with the amount of blood. I will attempt to answer any questions but I can not answer all questions.

:welcome5:

Welcome to WS, nick12! Glad you came out of lurkdom and joined the discussion. I've always had a gut feeling that this case was somehow connected to CU. Now, it seems even more likely after the deaths of Dr. and Mrs. Brumback. I have utmost respect for the Lt and his investigators. Lt Kangar said on AMW that they would NEVER give up solving this case and I believe him. I hope LE is checking lawsuits against CU that were settled out of court as well as lower level employees in the pathology dept. Somebody has a vendetta, eye for an eye, score to settle, against CU, IMO.

It is ironic that the name of the street the Brumbacks live on is Shirley street.

I have a few questions for Omaha locals. Has anyone taken a ride down Shirley St. and noticed any home security cameras? Hope some of the homes have them. It looks like an upper class neighborhood. Are there any businesses, quick marts near the entrance(s) to the neighborhood that may have cameras? Also, what is the distance between the Hunter home and the Brumback home? I am not good at mapping skills but if someone who is could map the locations of the Drs. Hunter home, the Dr. & Mrs. Brumback home and even the Dr. and Mrs. Anderson home, it would be greatly helpful and appreciated. I am good at reading maps, just not creating them on the internet. :/

I wonder if there are any extra precautions for other members of the pathology department. I hope they are at least alert.

I do hope CU is taking precautions. I was stunned this AM, there is utterly nothing in the World Herald about this case. I wonder if that is by design? Trying to tamp down fears in the community?

Purely residential street, no commercial businesses, stores etc. I doubt any of the homes have security cameras, but cannot be sure.

Distance between Hunters and Brumbacks is 6-10 miles, crossing very busy commercial areas. I think Andersons were very close to Hunters, so pretty much same distance to Brumbacks.

Thanks, dontknow! It is difficult to envision since I do not live in the area but I thought I recalled the Anderson's home was near the Hunter home.

I used to live on Shirley Street, although a bit further west of where they lived. It runs off and on through Omaha and in most cases through quiet residential areas.

The irony of the street name did occur to me as well...

OPD no longer releasing details, nothing in the news to not tip there hand. Don't you worry sleuths detectives are hot on the trial.

I actually now have little doubt they will nail this monster this time. he (or they) made a major mistake in moving on Dr Brumback. I think it' s possible the perp is really deluded and actually failed to think someone would connect the two cases. I also think it is very possible that OPD has had a prime suspect (s) in mind for the Dundee case but until now did not have the evidence (DNA or otherwise) to move. This arrogant creep made their job easier...

I may have an interview from a law enforcement source with no knowledge of the investigation, but worked as a homicide detective for 30 plus years with his thoughts...details to follow.

I think what Omaha may have meant was that the 2008 profilers felt those murders to be the work of a transient serial killer. Perhaps he was wondering how this fit in with the current theories.

I am posting a link to discussion of this crime on the site 'True Crime Diary':

http://www.truecrimediary.com/index.cfm?page=cases&id=205&mode=comments#view

Site is maintained by Michelle McNamara who had a good write up of the Dundee murders back in 2008. She is based in Los Angeles and I believe does a radio show on unsolved crimes.

exactly. how does a transient serial killer theory fit in to these two cases fitting together?

Could CU Pathology staff have been pushing some boundaries in the stem cell research area? Dr Brumback was researching in some fields where this is used. I can see in today's charged atmosphere someone playing God and passing judgment on him- and maybe on Dr Hunter's family as well.
