NE - Omaha Double Murder #3 - *Arrest Made*

  • #561
To address the gun clip being found, maybe the suspect wore gloves so that is why they left it at the crime scene, this is all moo of course. I am hoping more news gets released soon and that this case doesn't go cold like poor Thomas and Shirlee's case has. I know this was brought up previously, but I wonder if the street name that the Brumback's lived on and the name of the Hunter house cleaner, Shirlee are a connection? I wish someone would have asked this question, or at least get an idea if PD believes this is just a coincidence.

I sure hope LE is still looking at MB. He sure has moved around alot. Last I heard he was being investigated in Canada for shoddy autopsies but is no longer employeed there so I have no idea where he is now. Betcha LE is aware of his whereabouts, tho!

I'm trying to learn if the murders happened at the same time of day. That might help establish a connection. I'[m thinking Brumbacks' murder was in the daytime, too. They haven't said how the Brumbacks were killed.

Someone told me two interesting things yesterday-
1. The street the Brumbacks lived on has dead ends at both ends and is not easily accessible, and
2. $10,000 was paid out at a bank on a $54,000 reward for tips on that case. That is the reward amount on the Thomas/Shirley case. Don't know when it was paid out.

I hope the tip brings us the answer.

Where in the world is MB? Doesn't seem like good things follow him.

Good things don't seem to follow MB at all brudsaunt! He sounds a bit sketchy. However, I try to keep an open mind and sometimes wonder if the finger was pointed at him as a red herring.

Interesting info/rumor that you heard about part of the reward being paid out. I typed rumor since there is no link to verify it but did this info come from a reliable source that you trust? Why would 10,000.00 of a 54,000.00 reward be paid to a tipster and the media isn't on to it? If this is true then hopefully we will have an answer soon. Btw, I mean no disrespect by questioning, it is just my nature. I enjoy your contributions to this thread and know that you wouldn't just make stuff up as you have always been a responsible poster. :)

I find both points interesting. The second point sort of makes me go 'mmm' . Why would part of the reward fund be paid out without any arrest. wasn't the fund set up to pay out in event of the arrest and conviction of the killer(s)? Could LE have received a tip that they concluded was definitive but for some reason they have not been able to make an arrest?

The plot thickens...

Is it common for a killer to use a weapon like a knife in one killing and then use a gun for the second? I ask only because the killing of Thomas was so brutal and personal, and I have to wonder if they are connected, because of the change in weapons. Thomas's murder from what I read feels like a lot of rage going on with the killer towards Thomas. I hope they solve these crimes soon.
Many believe rage was involved in the dundee murder, it was known it was a horrific crime scene. In my opinion it was so violent because shirlee fought. I believe it was a fight to the death. Oh and to be clear, they never publicized the cause of death, only that a knife was involved.

Waltzing, Snick, Ozzie, A very important piece of information through looking back. He worked for the workers compensation court. Residents get paid. Could it have been a disgruntled resident? Maybe he filed for compensation and had a connection with Dr. Anderson? Food for thought.

To be clear, neither a knife or gun is known as the murder weapon. At no point have they released the murder weapon.

Hi WM,

I just saw the presser and I get the same impression that he is looking beyond Omaha. I find it odd that the killer didn't pick up that clip. You know it has to have prints on it, if it was accidently left behind. I remember a guy we all were looking at a Russian, for the Hunter killings. Do you think he is one of the top POI's.

Glad to be back, just sad this 🤬🤬🤬 got another family. :banghead:
No proof that it was a clip. The man you are referencing is Matthew Belenky. I invite you to google him for a photo and compare it to the sketch. The nose does have an odd similarity, but it was a very vague sketch.

To be clear, it hasn't been cold. There isn't always enough evidence to prove someone guilty with such little evidence. The Shirley question has been asked, pure coincidence.

Thanks, I will google him. Do you think he looks like the sketch that they did for the Dundee killings? I remember there was a sketch, have to go back and check it out, been some time since I read here. I think the description was olive skin?

Okay the only MB I get is a tennis player out of Pittsburgh PA? That is odd.

Thanks Nick, really interesting food for thoughts. Though, I think that name's wrong.

This article states that he was questioned but not a POI but one of 10 others questioned. It does state "stabbing" deaths. Also MB work with the medical examiner in Pittsburgh, he was the assistant ME. I wonder when he and where he studied? I know there are ties to Pittsburgh with the recent homicide family, Brumback.

What do you mean? Are you referring to the guy that found the bodies of Mr and Mrs Brumback or the guy in the sketch we were thinking of?

I thought the name was Michael, not Matthew.

Yes, it is Michael. I got it as soon as I found that article and read it again. Thanks.

I posted a timeline of sorts on MB in one of these threads. Here's the sequence of his travels that I remember. He went to school in St. Petersberg, Russia > University of NE > CU> Allegheny/asst ME in Pittsburg > teacher in Alberta > Calgary ME. I'll look around and see if I can find it. It should be in thread 2 or 3.

I think it was Calgary, it was in the article I linked. I still can't figure out what the motive was to kill an 11yr old boy and his housekeeper. I get that both men worked at Creighton and worked in the same place as MB, but killing WH child doesn't make sense to me. If you are mad at the department heads or your boss, whatever, you go after them, not the kids. LE was talking about maybe Thomas met someone on line and they gave out his screen name and I thought they were looking at someone he met in a chat room, now this double murder. Seems like they are looking at 2 different killers. IDK. MB was working in Pittsburgh at the time of the Hunter killing, so wouldn't there be some evidence of him traveling to NE?
