NE - Omaha Double Murder #3 - *Arrest Made*

Local media - including an address in TH.......Looks like the photos are not of his arrest but rather of his home, as that is an Indiana Trooper car parked out front.

Off to find it

Can't find much about him. Where he went to medical school. How well patients liked him
(doing family practice as visiting doc?), etc. Guess we will be learning more.

One more comment--HURRAY!

Anyone recall way back in thread #1 on this case, there was speculation that the plate on the CRV seen by witnesses may have been from New Mexico? We do not yet know a lot about Garcia but I was told back when first hearing of him that he is from there originally.

I couldn't find anything to link to but the local TV news had a statement from the Hunter family thanking LE for their persistence. The statement concluded that 'Tom's soul can now rest in peace."

I just saw this. Fantastic news!

I owe MB an apology. That said, I can't help but think he was a prime suspect and perhaps that distracted from the investigation. Just idle speculation but Garcia did loosely fit the description, drove a CR-V and was fired by Dr. Hunter. Has there been any reporting on how closely they looked at this guy in 2008?

Too soon to say but I know he was looked at back then and that they concluded he was not a likely suspect, IDK what they based that conclusion on. In retrospect, it seems he should have been looked at, he fit the composite drawing and had a motive. If you have read the early posts back in thread #1, I was not exactly subtle in my feelings about the original detectives assigned this case. They seemed to be a bunch of old-school gumshoes who went after Shirlee's family, getting fixated on some 'drug' connection. I was told that they almost ignored computer evidence, not even pulling Tom's computer until months into the investigation. They literally blew months of valuable time on chasing stuff that went nowhere. The police chief at that time was more interested in getting out of town and starting his new job while double dipping with his Omaha pension and IMO just decided it wasn't going to be solved.

It wasn't until Lt Kangier and his people got this case that things started to come together. I noted one local news channel this evening commented that OPD feels the AMW broadcast generated tips that helped to ID Garcia as a probable perp. If so then I think the people on this board can feel we accomplished something. IMO that broadcast never would have aired if not for the pressure we helped generate. A lot of our speculation was of course not correct but airing all this helped focus our efforts. I am proud of us and am glad to call many of you my friends..

Dr. Richard Baltaro, who worked in the pathology department, said Brumback told him that Garcia would do things to make other resident doctors look bad in order to sabotage their work

There is a good video at link. Shows his home and job at Federal Prison in Terre Haute. He wouldn't have to get an Indiana Medical license since it's a Federal job I think.

Wow! I was just reading this on Google! This is amazing!

This is wonderful news that has been long-awaited!!

THANKS to the investigators who dug and found enough evidence to charge.

THANKS ALSO to SNICK and others who kept this case alive on this board.
WELL DONE!

I haven't followed these murders/investigation, but salute those of you that never gave up and have persevered in providing awareness while sleuthing and insuring justice for the Brumbacks, Thomas Hunter, Shirlee Sherman, and possibly others..

Salute...

Thanks for the link collette. That video at link has lot's of interesting information. That is a nice looking home. I wonder if he is married?

I felt from the time I began following this case that there was a connection to CU in some way. Mainly because knife murders are personal and indicate rage and connecting that to Dr. H being a pathologist. It sounds like this serial killer had a hit list by the Chief saying they felt he would kill again. Chilling thought! So glad they finally got him!

Anthony J. Garcia III tried to be a good neighbor, but the mild-mannered doctor who is now accused of four grisly revenge slayings in Omaha was dubbed “weird” by his neighbors who said he had some odd habits.
He also came and went at “strange hours” of the day and night, and never appeared to entertain visitors at his three-bedroom home in a middle-class neighborhood in Terre Haute, Ind.
“The whole time that he lived in this area, he never, ever put any trash out — never,” said a neighbor, who lived in the same cul-de-sac as Garcia and awoke Monday to a flood of police vehicles swarming the neighborhood.

Home alone and just saw it in the Chi Trib. I said "Oh my gosh" out loud. Wow.

They are affiliated with Albany. Small towns are great places for family medicine residencies - great experience for the trainees.
