Channel 8 reports the body of 52-year-old Tammy Sukstorf was found by cadaver dogs underneath a beaver dam.

The Sheriff’s office hasn’t ruled out foul play, and an autopsy is scheduled for today.

Before the body was found, Cedar Bluffs Public Schools released a statement on Sukstorf, stating, in part, “Tammy is a kind and loving teacher that impacts not only her classroom but everyone who comes into contact with her.”

According to the Saunders County Sheriff’s Office, her body was recovered Sunday evening in a rural area near Cedar Bluffs.

Cedar Bluffs Public Schools, where Sukstorf taught second grade, planned to have crisis counselors available today starting at 2 p.m., according to a statement released on the school’s Facebook page this morning.

“Tammy has taught at Cedar Bluffs Elementary School since 1994, touching so many lives in the process. We understand that many of you are grieving and we as a school would like to help with that process,” the statement read in part.

Those seeking a comforting place are asked to enter the school through the high school doors, as construction is currently taking place at the elementary school.

Mental illness? I wonder if perhaps she has been suffering from depression lately? She is the age where her kids might all be gone to college and she might be going through empty nest syndrome. I found this article and picture of Tammy with her family from 2016:

I saw that. It seems incomprehensible to me that she would harm herself. But those types of statements are often made by loved ones of the mentally ill. On the other hand, the location of her car and her body being found under a beaver's dam seems very fishy to me. That location is not near a large river as far as I can tell. Maybe there is a small stream near that corner, but it's hard to tell. LE have not made any statements since they found her body. Fortunately she was found only 2 days after last seen. Hopefully there will still be a lot of evidence on her body to reveal what happened to her. MOO.

Sand Creek is near where her car was found. There is a small bridge that connects county road 19 over the creek. I'm not sure of the depth of it or the exact distance from where her car was found. County road S dead ends at CR 19 going west but then CR S continues once you are over the bridge. I hope this makes sense.

Myself and our community will miss Tammy greatly.

Crisis counselors will be available today at the school where she worked. I feel so bad for the little ones she taught - they have no way of understanding.

My deepest apologies for your loss. I will keep you and Tammy's family, friends, community, and especially her students in my prayers. I'm so sorry we had to "meet" under these circumstances. I'm relieved and happy to see the school is offering grief counselors to the community and her network of loved ones. May her death bring a bright light of hope in the way of awareness and counseling to those who are suffering mental health issues. We're here if you need us.
