This story adds a whole new angle. Supposedly Jaqueline went to collect a debt of some sort. The automatic translation creates alot of grammatical and syntax errors in English but it makes it appear that Jaqueline might have been targeted.

I have read the news article three times.
IMO. Please someone correct me if I am wrong.
As webrocket said, there are syntax errors and I am not sure
what I have is correct.
My translation from Portuguese to English to my version of the English:

I think it says Jacqueline, who is the person they are discussing,
owed the church money.
Information on debt comes from daughter, who is in U.S. now.

Jacqueline called Dec. 14, 2009 several times to her aunt.
Her aunt cares for her 19 yr old son.
In that week, she called up to 3 x a day to her aunt, to her son,
to her mother.
On Dec. 15, 2009, said would call close to Christmas, but call never came.
Her mother says, I want my daughter back here.
Money is not everything in life. They have not fortune and happiness.
It is because of the money that they are in this situation.

They have lived in the United States 11 years working for Assembly of God church.
Four years ago they went to Omaha, NE to build a school for missionaries.
Vanderlie is construcor and head of works.
Jacqueline arrived to work on the project, cleaning nozzles, with batch processing the word used is households.

In US, Dec. 18, last talked to.
Dec. 15, last phone call to Brazil.
and then more about police finding things left out, not put away, not like them.

I wonder which church ... the AoG in FL or the one the one they were attending in NE that has been collecting money related to the Szczepaniks.

Come to think of it, is it not odd that they were renovating a church for the Florida group but the local support is coming from other churches including a Lutheran church? Strange that they would be renovating a church that has no congregation or at least none that is publicly offering Tatiana any assistance.

There is yet another story from Brazil that is being butchered by the automatic translation function at google.

This is the story in Portuguese:

http://tinyurl.com/ykdkqys

If you hit the google translation option there is one particularly bizarre sentence, which is the last sentence of paragraph 5:

According to friends, good employment contracts may be closed threats generated by members of the Vanderlei.

Doing the best I can to retranslate the original to English this is what I come up with:

De acordo com amigos, bons contratos de trabalho fechados podem ter gerado ameaças de funcionários da empresa de Vanderlei.

according to friends good work contracts could have caused threats to Vanderlei's employees.

Even if my translation is correct I don't understand what these people are saying other than there being some threats associated with Vanderlei's business.

I wonder why this same info isn't being reported by US media. Does Brazil know something that we don't?

Several things can explain this and some of it is cultural. 1 the Brazilian press has much greater access to the Szczepanik's family members down there 2. there is no investigation down there that could be compromised by printing such things 3. American press standards (if there are such things) might avoid publishing unsubstantiated claims like that 4. Latin Americans and their press are far more dramatic and sensational.

Unless you have actually witnessed any of the cultural aspects I am describing, then it is hard to grasp. Latins are prone to exaggeration, rumor and gossip. So on the one hand the Szczepaniks may have bragged to family in Brazil about how well they were doing here in the US so then when something happened to them, the Brazilians assumed some sort of business jealosy.

My hunch is that none of the Brazilian stories have any source from emails sent by the Szczepaniks, just their phone calls so the claims might not be substantiatable. (Note - they might be true, but not verifiable based on all the word of mouth).

Jaqueline's daughter Tatiane is talking to the Brazilian media.

I hope this piece comes through already translated but she is claiming that the Szczepanik's bank accounts were looted.

I just looked at the link. It is still in Portuguese. Just hit the translate button on the upper right to get a rough English translation.

This isn't good.
I was hoping they had decided to run... for some unknown reason.
New evidence. Not good news. Bank accounts looted.

It must be someone they know. Or someone they employed.

BTW I had to use google translator...no top right hand button worked for me.

Here is the article which I copied and pasted after translation. Being an automatic translation program, sentences do not always flow smoothly:

Police in Omaha, Nebraska, is in possession of new details about the disappearance of a Brazilian family. Tatiane Klein, daughter of Jacqueline Szczepanik who came to the United States to closely monitor the investigation, was advised to prepare for the worst.

Vanderlei, 43, Jacqueline, 44, and son Christopher, 7, disappeared mysteriously on December 17. Two vehicles in the family were found but contained no signs of Brazilians. All the couple's belongings were found in the apartment they occupied, located in the Christian Community Center.

Tatiane spoke exclusively with Community News by telephone. She described all the anguish that lives in recent times. She said the advice to prepare for the worst is due to the latest information. "It was programmed not to take money and extortion. It was a planned thing, like to eliminate. This struck me, "he said. She confirmed that there was looting the bank account of the couple.
According to the Brazilian, the new details can not be revealed so as not to hinder the investigation.

According Tatiane, Vanderlei had closed a good contract with the local government. No ransom was asked. Also according to her, the family's apartment, where he was accompanied by a researcher, was overwhelmed by all the police, presumably to look for evidence.

The Brazilian has only one word to describe the wait and monitor the investigations. "Horrible." Although very well treated and to gain sympathy for the Americans, Tatiane not see beauty in anything. "I came to find my mother, left her husband and two small children, came in a winter that never saw in my life. It is a very big culture shock, food differently, do not speak any English. "

The father of Jacqueline, Eloir Costa, is very distressed. "Try to give me strength to not give up. There are times when I felt like running. It is difficult my situation. " Tatiane is satisfied with police work, but believes that should receive more information. "Until we resolve this, do not rest." She has a suspicion about what has already spoken to the police, but prefers not to make it public.

Shannon did not get to see a concrete reason for the disappearance of the family. "They are people of integrity, has a good life. They are very detail-oriented to make it right. " She said there is a possibility that Jacqueline and Vanderlei have already received a green card. Police revealed Tatiane she will have an answer soon. "But just what she has to tell me, going forward, is not good."

Upon seeing this, the husband of Shannon was tense and worried. "I came here to seek my mother, but not take it in a coffin for Brazil. This will be very sad for me. " Brother, grandmother and uncles Tatiane has maintained contact with her for the news.

Justice
Jaqueline ceased contact with his daughter exactly two days before disappearing. Tatiane come to think that had been snow at Christmas that had prevented the mother to call. Distrust of Tatiane began in January. Even preparing for the worst, the Brazilian keeps hope alive. "If I am the daughter who does not have hope, who will have? I still have a little hope, is not the same as I had before, I will not lie. She [the researcher] told me very seriously, looking hard into my eyes. It makes me even scared. "

No matter who has done something for the family, Jacqueline hopes justice. "It will have to pay for what he did. For me it is a monster, if you did something, if not live, deserves a life sentence. She does not expect, however, the death penalty for the charge if the family is no longer alive. "I am against taking the life of any person. I know I'll be very angry and a lot of hatred in my heart. But I think if you want this to this person, I will be so much it monster. "

The Brazilian appeals. "I need people to give information, to call the police, something that can help, thank you immensely."
The spokesman for police in Omaha, Jacob Bettin, confirmed the existence of new information, but said they can not be revealed. He said the investigation continues, and asks anyone with information to call (402) 444-5656 or Crime Stoppers (402) 444-5867.

Thanks webrocket !!

No, things don't sound good. However, I guess there is still the wild chance they cleaned out their own account and took off. Wonder what specific type of bank activity constitutes evidence the account was "looted" (i.e. fake signatures on cheques?). Also, if Tatiane has seen fit to release this important information, what is the other information LE has that they do not wish released? Hopefully this wasn't it.

Wonder who the other bidders on the government contract were?

All I can say is hopefully all of these familys that have gone missing are chilling somewhere in Mexico enjoying the sun. How weird.

hard to say. If they took it themselves then they could be on the run. If the account was emptied out after then either someone forced them to withdraw the $$$ or they forced a PIN from them.

However, bank transactions are usually filmed either in the bank or at an ATM. this is something LE should have checked already.

Thanks for the translated version. Some thoughts and phrases don't make sense at all to me.

Hoping and praying for answers and finding the family.

No problem.

The issue with the sentences is that the google translation program does not use a person to actually read the document and translate. So you get sentences that do no flow easily and words that are used out of context.

For the most part the gist of the story does come through and if what Tatiane is telling the Brazilian press is true, then it looks like there was foul play.
