Moo, i think that, a lot of times, the Police in European countries have a lot of confidence in their colleagues in other European countries & don’t double check if there’s a missing person or Jane/john doe in their system themselves.
Just a couple of examples:

- Lesley Timmer : missing 18yo young man from the Netherlands, found the next day with verry recongnisable face in Belgium, no link/match was made until 1 month later.

- Anke Meyvis & Vincent: missing from Belgium, found dead soon after in Italy with very recognisable faces, 4years unidentified in a morgue, match was made after a tip to “Tros-vermist” (holland) of someone making the link/match online. "Meer vraagtekens rond dood Nederlandse tiener in België"

yes theyre still not great at international cooperation and mutual transparency.
If there was a common global, at least intereuropean database and network that checks border registrations, fingerprint registrations, links DNA databases - not just within the frame of this small uid women project only but on a big and universal scale, it would solve many cases. Also if there finally was a change in outlook towards advanced DNA testing and IGG it would help many cases. One can just hope that little by little and step for step it will improve and grow in Europe. I hope this project will grow and expand and also open the door for IGG.
Time is running out for many UIDs. I would like to see justice for the afghan girl found in the Main, the north african girl found in Germany, the Heulmeisje and many others. Britain is a bit more advanced than the EU but still behind the US - id like to have British cases solved like the Angel of the Meadow and the Duchess and Bella in the Whych Elm get their names back.

Interpol does have the iFamilia DNA system to compare worldwide samples against unidentified remains, many in countries where commercial genetic genealogy isn't yet used. So far it's being used particularly across Europe. I have helped a family (not European) get their DNA in their system as they are seeking their missing family member last known to be in Europe in the 90s.

From my understanding (at least from what was released to the public a year ago), iFamilia is like Codis in the US and not the most advanced technically. But it is a good start, given that there has not been an intercountry database for DNA in Europe. It is a big step into the right direction. I hope that they will eventually start dropping some of the very rigorous personality protection laws and go on to allow more IGG. So, I am hopeful.
