New Letter On Haleigh May Prove Helpful

Little strange right. They surely didn't do that with the pond tip...and I seriously doubt that LE contacts the family or the lawyers with any tip...

It's not strange at all. Remember, it wasn't LE that contacted Ron's lawyer (and perhaps Crystal's). The person quoted in the article at the top of the thread (Prior) is the assistant editor of the paper. He only says "he also spoke to Ronald Cummings' attorneys about the newest letter." That likely means (as he didn't say "I called the attorneys") that the attorneys contacted the paper when they heard about the letter. I have thought all along that Ronald's attorneys were not in place because he was worried he would be charged in connection with a crime, but because he needs someone trained and sophisticated to deal with the media and LE (and perhaps Crystal's side).

So in this case it is not LE who gave information to the family. And if the tipster had the letter taken to a newspaper (or took it herself), it was to make the information public. The newspaper has no reason not to talk to the parents' representatives. My guess is that everyone has been cautioned or guided by LE as to what to say and not say, for Haleigh's sake.

It would be sooo wonderful if she is alive and being held somewhere. But wouldn't the police storm the place if they knew where she was being held? The only scenerio I can think of that they would not have leapt into immediate action would be if a relative has her. A custody dispute kidnapping or something.

But that's been my hope all along and I'm beginning to think it may just be wishful thinking too.

I think the pond search might have been all of those, and they might have been simply telling half-truths. It must be very seldom that they have the chance to drain ponds and there must always be some newbie deputy who hasn't done it before and who could use the learning experience. And if it was true about marihuana being found near the pond the pond search they may have been on the look out for evidence regarding the drugs as well. Stolen vehicles that tie in to the drug case or something.

Can we conclude that since the pond was already searched and the tip was described as volatile, the scrubs lady's tip doesn't have anything to do with the pond?

It's very interesting to me, Donjeta, that the tip was described as "volatile". I have been giving a lot of thought as to what he really means by this.

To me "volatile" means "explosive" or "shocking". So what does this imply? Something extreme, such as Haleigh was taken to be sold? Something unexpected, such that Haleigh was taken by someone that we don't know about or would least expect? Something horrifying, I don't want to even imagine?

To me it doesn't imply that it's one of the simple scenarios that we have been tennding to discuss. It really bothers me that the reporter used this particular word.

So they followed up on it and nothing. Thank goodness!

Everytime I hear something like that tip, I feel sick to my stomach.

I hope if people are dropping off those fake tips just to insert themselves into the case (and therefore using a "messenger"), I hope LE can track down these people and prosecute them! How dare they do such a thing! Worry the families... make LE waste time and resources! :furious:

Seems like it would be straightforward to check. I have mixed emotions about this. On one hand, if LE didn't find Haleigh buried there, then this still allows us to hope that she is still alive. On the other hand, it's may be yet another tip that didn't pan out and LE may be no closer to solving this case. This is a real roller coaster ride.

It appears it probably was a "psychic" tip which had gone unnoticed by LE and the person wanted to make certain it was checked out. If the person didn't put anything in the letter to reference it was only speculation, I can see how it would create such a buzz. Not sure if they can prosecute anyone for sending in a tip no matter how off base it ends up. After all...it is only a tip and no one said they have to be credible. We saw in Caylee's case over 3,000 tips which were definitely not credible, but they didn't prosecute anyone over them.

Detectives said they "thoroughly followed up on the information provided [in the letter], but the tip did not lead to Haleigh."

"This tip, as have the other more than 4,000 received in this case, has thus far not led to the recovery of Haleigh," Capt. Dick Schauland.

The woman who delivered the tip told detectives that she was delivering the information for someone else. The sheriff's Office is not releasing her name or the location of the identified "burial site," Schauland said.

I was afraid the letter was going to turn out to be nothing. This is so sad for HaLeigh and her family. That letter most likely gave them some glimmer of hope and once again, disappoint is what they're left with. LE are probably ready to pull their hair out.

I try to caution people here all the time not to send in tips unless they have DIRECT KNOWLEDGE of something involving a case. For LE to wade through 4,000 tips is ridiculous, imo. We know probably 3,995 of those are going to be nothing. I was horrified when I saw the garbage sent in on Caylee's case. It prevents LE from concentrating on the very few credible tips among a sea of theories and speculation.

LE does use information provided from legitimate psychics from time to time, but they are aware of the credibility of the people they are dealing with in such an instance. They do not advertise if they use information coming from such a source either. This is how it should be done.

I do feel sorry for the families being thrown for a loop by this particular tip. I can't imagine how hard it must have been to hear the contents of the letter and to wonder until LE checked it out. It is a horrific thing to do to the families involved in any missing person case.

Well, then, there is still hope that Haleigh is alive and well. I hope it is a personal vendetta against Ron by the Croslins...where they took her and want him to pay money or do something to get her back. I think Ron thought it was JO. I am sure Misty knows exactly what happened. And, again, it could have been somebody at the party who heard Misty bragging about how she left them at home, tucked in bed, with movies to watch, because she knew Haleigh wouldn't leave the house in the dark...I wish so much they would find her. I do not want this case to go cold. LE have said they thought it was someone known to the family who abducted Haleigh. I don't remember them ever giving information they thought she was dead, until the pond was searched. So is that what they really think, that she is no longer alive?

SS, I'm discouraged about all these so called tips too. There's no sense in it. Though there are some legitimate that people thought could be a possibiltiy and should have been called in. But the majority is from those who are causing problems in this case and I wish they would stop. It's only my opinion, not caring to state why or how I come to this conclusion, but I hope something is done to those who intentionally did nothing but try to cause LE to focus on someone to start innuendo and point blame to any particular player in the case.

AnotherMom, LE doesn't know if Haleigh is dead or alive unless they have enough, key word here enough, forensic evidence proving someone had died at a particular crime scene, which to our knowledge they haven't even named a crime scene other than the home. Evidentally, there's no amount of forensic evidence indicating death or they would have already changed this from missing to Homicide investigation just like Laci Petersons case and a fairly recent one in the news.

I still would be curious to see what this letter says. If it is dismissed as not the tip that is going to lead to Haleigh perhaps the newspaper will be running the letter soon. If they don't run the letter then maybe that means law enforcement still hasn't given the go ahead to do that. I am not ready to give up hope yet.

“Circumstances extend statewide and beyond.”
The typed initials at the bottom are “SAM.”
The woman who dropped off the letter went to the Putnam County Sheriff’s Office on Friday when she learned that investigators wanted to talk to her.
She told detectives that she dropped the letter off for someone else, an elderly man who had been an FBI informant “with special abilities,” Schauland said Monday.
“SAM” was the informant’s code name, the woman wrote in an e-mail to the paper on Saturday.

If my calculations are right, it would put the spot almost in the backyard of the old man who said he watched the kids play every day in a very early article. I remember because I could not figure out how he could see the kids from where he lived. (I will have to find it later, but I think it was on the First Coast News.)
