This is my first post, not sure if I'm doing it right. A thought crossed my mind the other day and I'm sure someone had already proposed this as a possible theory. What if an intruder killed Jon Benet and her parents mistakenly believed Burke had killed her. I believe this fairly unlikely but possible scenario could explain away almost all of the weird and contradictory evidence.

This actually has been speculated on previously. But there is virtually no evidence of an intruder that night.

Everyone is different but i find it helps to imagine it in your own family. Or if you don’t live with family, think back to when you did. Imagine you wake up and find one of your family members dead, apparently murdered. Do you stand there and go 🤔hmm, must have been so and so, afterall he accidentally hit them in the face last year with a golf club! Case closed! Now, to stage this as a kidnapping and write a three page ransom note! and then get all manic writing this convoluted note? realistically you’d most likely inform everyone else and figure out what happened, it would take about five seconds to know 100% if someone in the house did it intentionally or unintentionally. I think Burke was *just* a kid, he wasn’t capable of sexually abusing, strangling, bludgeoning etc his sister, staging a kidnapping scene, writing a ransom note, and fooling his parents as they grill him on why his baby sister is dead. It’s just ridiculous to think they wouldnt ask him and immediately tell if he was lying. Burke, Jonbenét is DEAD. Did you do this? His answer would reveal the truth even if he tried to lie. So if he did not do it, why would they act as if he did? Makes no sense imho.

I’m not even too sure how plausible the whole BDI and R’s covered up for him thing is. It still sounds pretty whacky to me, like a lot of trouble to go through over an accident or crime he couldn’t even be charged with. Everyone says oh but maybe they didnt know he couldnt be charged? All it would take is a phone call to find out, they were connected to so many people, come on. It doesnt really ring true to me that Burke did it (accident or otherwise) and then their next thought is “plot ze pretend kidnapping!🥸”. Considering the amount of power they displayed by doing much of whatever the heck they wanted despite the police, even if Burke did it, i think they would just pay everyone off and leave the state or country and avoid the consequences if any were to land on Burke or on them. The whole kidnapping thing is kind of insane, lately i’m leaning towards Patsy being kind of deranged and maybe plotting this whole thing in her head for years possibly.

Anyways i watched some of the more recent John interviews thenother night and they left me feeling really weird. In one sense i felt sad that he has gotten so old, not just his numerical age but he really acts old now, super slow mentally compared to 96+ you can tell he thinks much slower and in simpler ways and has forgotten things and has a bit of that disinterest in things ive seen in old people, like they already start checking out so to speak. I guess it made me feel sad also because i’m around Burke’s age and it hurts to see my own family aging. But besides these feelings i was left confused by it. If it was Patsy and John knew all along, but was innocent, then why now after she has passed and he has remarried does he still push IDI relentlessly? Hes not in his peak business years, he knows his reputation is already ruined, the motivations he had in 96 are totally different now, yet he still sticks to the script. Is it because he was part of the whole coverup and can’t admit it?

Another thing, although aging can have obvious cognitive impacts on people, i felt like the John i saw in those recent interviews wasn’t such a bright guy like i felt he was before. In the 90s and 00s interviews he seems so incredibly self controlled that it almost gets creepy like his eye contact and the way he thinks his words over before speaking, it gives an impression of intelligence and that he is only letting the tip of the iceberg visible, but in the recent ones i felt like what you see is what you get, not much more going on in there. This made me wonder, could Patsy have actually done it all herself and fooled John? I can’t stop thinking of what Linda Arndt reported about his mood being cordial etc and then suddenly changed to nervous and disturbed after he was unaccounted for for a time. What if he woke up (unaware of the night’s activities) and Patsy is immediately going balls to the wall kidnapper story, but he instantly thinks it’s just Patsy in a psychotic mood, maybe he had seen similar instances before, so hes almost amused by it all like go ahead, call the police, let’s see the drama unfold! Maybe he thinks JBR is safe and sound with Patsy’s mother or something and it’s all a ruse. But when 10am comes and the fake kidnapper call never comes, and he sees Patsy is lookig seriously distraught like something bad has really happened, did he then go searching the house thinking soemthing happened, JBR is here? Did he find her, dead, and realized this is way more than a dramatic display, Patsy has really gone off the deep end? Maybe he was concerned for how he would look, had she tried to frame him? Their son? Remember we dont even know what the scene might have been, it could have been different if Patsy staged one thing and then John discovers it and says not so fast Patsy, you arent going to throw this on me or Burke! Yknow?

Idk it’s very hard for me to imagine the scenario where Patsy accidentally kills JBR and tells John and hes like alright… you murdered our daughter, fire up a pot of coffee lets write a ransom note! ahhh this case is so crazy.

Nothing to contribute, just wanted to tell @InadequateAttaché that I love his username!

That does make me wonder - what DID the writer of the note have in mind as an “adequate size”?

That's a good question. If it needed to hold $100,000 in $100 bills and $18,000 in $20 bills, is it big enough for a small body? I wouldn't think so.

IIRC John Ramsey got busted with the old girlfriend, left Patsy at the apartment to take care of his mess, which she handled and old girlfriend disappears from the scene and John and Patsy wed and live almost happily ever after…
It’s a smart move, having other people clean up your chaos. It’s great for alibis, and also for diversion. Has John Ramsey had his family on the hook regarding his responsibility in the murder of JonBenet for almost 30 years? How does he keep them all in line?

John Ramsey was seen and identified by three witnesses at an adult shop in Atlanta two weeks after the murder of his daughter. This was a public statement by Mike Walker from the National Enquirer on a mainstream television talk show…
Of all the information that tabloids have access to, that is the statement Walker chose to blurt out on National television….
What is in the tabloid files regarding this murder?
John Ramsey had been on National television- CNN, Larry King… huge press coverage…and he decides to visit an adult shop in Atlanta?….,
Was he picking up or dropping off?….
Mike Kane has spoken of all the secrets this case has…
MOO.

I just wanted to add about Mike Walker (RIP). He was a respected columnist for the National Enquirer. The reporters for these tabloids have access to sensitive information and have been used for decades for “catch and kill” At one time reporters working the tabloid beat were among the highest paid on the industry.
I firmly believe that Mr Walker knew so much more about this case than is publicly available. His comment about the John Ramsey sighting at the adult store 2 weeks after the murder of his daughter has been an actual nagging buzz in my ear.
Can anyone imagine the guts it took to make a statement like that on national television? There is a shadow story to the murder of JonBenet Ramsey. Is it pictures? Is it a network? I dunno if this shadow is overtly involved but I do believe that once it is brought into the light, it will explain a lot. ... And it is among those shadows that Mike Walker knew all about.
MOO.

Mike Walker was the one who went the extra mile to investigate the claim that PR was ambidextrous. He travelled to West Virginia where she grew up and tracked down a high school teacher who taught PR in the 70's, and she told him PR was ambidextrous and had been since being a child. This was then confirmed by LHP. Investigators on the case had long suspected that whoever wrote the ransom note was ambidextrous, but it took Mike Walker's persistence and determination to uncover the truth by finding the witness who could attest to the fact that PR was indeed ambidextrous.

I too think it is very possible that there is a shadow story to this case that remains hidden. And your comment about, "is it pictures?" reminds me of the very confusing and hard to follow / understand interview of PR about pictures that were found in the basement. What was that about?

Yeh…that whole line of questioning was just crazy. There doesn’t seem to be very much hard balling line of questioning. So many times the subject matter is just dropped… like WTF??? Patsy tells LE that she keeps the bedroom door of JonBenet open in case she is needed… wait… what???? And nada… no further questions on that…
There seemed to be a lot of kids activity in the basement… between the older kids that lived up the ally…then there is the infamous suitcase in the boiler room. I could have sworn I read JR said he put that suitcase in the laundry room in the basement…then I read JR said he brought that suitcase down to the basement boiler room…that infamous suitcase…
Great post about Mike Walker! No doubt he has seen it all. What a career and what a champion for justice. He still has friends in the industry that are living…I gotta believe they are privy to some details…and he was responsible for busting PR…love that! he’s gotta have a wealth of archived material somewhere…
A photo shoot that Christmas night? Impromptu? Would not surprise me. What about that NYC photographer PR took JB to?
I gotta believe that is part of the shadowland in the murder of JonBenet…

This is my first post, not sure if I'm doing it right. A thought crossed my mind the other day and I'm sure someone had already proposed this as a possible theory. What if an intruder killed Jon Benet and her parents mistakenly believed Burke had killed her. I believe this fairly unlikely but possible scenario could explain away almost all of the weird and contradictory evidence.
Welcome to the forum! You’re doing just fine—great first post. That’s an interesting angle, and I agree it’s one of those scenarios that could explain some of the puzzling aspects of the case. The idea that the parents might’ve misinterpreted what happened adds a whole new layer to the discussion. Definitely worth thinking about—thanks for sharing!
