NZ: Students fear visa issues if they report poor mental health
''International students in New Zealand aren’t reporting their poor mental health because they fear their visa statuses or educational records will be affected if they do so.''
''The confusion has risen around a policy from Immigration New Zealand which states that all non-New Zealanders coming to the country must have an acceptable standard of health. Students have said they are reluctant to disclose mental health challenges in case it makes them ineligible for student visas. ''
''While all visa applicants do need to be upfront with their medical conditions, so we can assess their circumstances against immigration instructions, it is important to understand that a visa application will not be automatically declined just because a health condition has been disclosed.''

Migrants avoid getting vital health support for fear of jeopardising residency applications
"Two years of Covid-19, lockdowns, visa delays and being separated from loved ones overseas have sparked numerous conversations on social media between migrants who are battling to cope with the increasing pressures of living in an unfamiliar country during a global pandemic.

Many are too afraid to reach out for any kind of health support because it would negatively impact their residency application.''

this is really interesting, because it shows that if these rules are being misinterpreted, it's by lots of people. I mean that's the way we have all been reading them. And if even 2 doctors incorrectly read them that way we'll then...

Wouldn't that effectively make that the rule even if it wasn't the original intention?

The trial for the woman accused of murdering her three children at their Timaru home has been scheduled for mid-2023.

Lauren Anne Dickason's case was called in the High Court today.

Her trial, expected to take several weeks, was initially set for early next year in Timaru.

However, she applied to change venues so the case could be heard in Christchurch.

That meant a change to the trial date.

It will now go ahead in July next year.

I wonder why she did that? What difference would a change of court location make?
I'm guessing that Christchurch has a much bigger population than Timaru from which to draw a jury.

I totally agree. Mothers will usually suicide rather than harm their children.

With one child killed by a parent every fortnight in Australia, some of the biggest red flags for filicide are being catastrophically missed.

Another similar incident
….the children’s father, had called triple-0 and was “assisting police with their enquiries” — he’d been arrested at the scene. But detectives quickly realised Mr Perinovic, who’d arrived home from a shopping trip to find Matthew in the kitchen, was not responsible, Katie was. All four had stab wounds, and a large knife was discovered in another room, near her and the girls’ bodies.

Missed red flags, invisible victims: Finding the courage to confront Australia's filicide problem

Trial scheduled to begin July 17, 2023 and will last two weeks.
Two weeks doesn't sound long. I wonder if there isn't much for the defence to argue, except insanity.....?

If someone is taking a psychiatric drug on a regular basis and then just abruptly stops, that can throw them into acute withdrawals, which can bring on all sorts of nightmarish symptoms. I'm not sure if her doctor gave the okay for her to do this or not. If so, that doctor should have known better and bears some responsibility. It's not talked about in mainstream media very often, but there are thousands of suicides and homicides that are related to people suffering horrible side effects of psych meds...or in this case, abruptly stopping them.

All i can think of at the moment, is that the combination of high stress jobs as doctors during covid, having 2 year old twins and a six year old not in school, moving to another country, just coming out of quarantine, all without their usual nanny who had been with the children since birth - and maybe even some of the insecurities that sometimes strike those turning 40 years old...
imo, speculation.
But that Nanny hadn't been working in that capacity for some time. From the above link upthread, "Maria Mendy Sibanyoni was the girls’ nanny from November 2018 to May 2020." Presumably the mother had adjusted to she and the father having the children full-time??

That article contained information I don't remember reading before about this case. There is really a lot that could be said about it. What I noticed the most were the examples of messages she allegedly sent to her friends, such as,

“I wish I could give them back and start over, I would decide differently." And “I would rather divorce my children."

I personally see disordered thinking, very high stress, and severe struggles with impulse control. But not psychosis or lack of understanding right and wrong. My opinions only.
