Found Deceased New Zealand - Emma Beattie, 20, Fernside, 1 Dec 2017

Emma Beattie, 20, was last seen at her Fernside home about 11pm on Friday, but police believe she may have been near the Ashley River on Saturday.

Beattie is about 172 centimetres tall, of thin build and has long blonde hair. She was believed to be wearing orange-and-black Nike shoes.

She may be carrying a small brown drawstring rucksack with cream-coloured rope straps. She could be wearing red "ragbeat" brand headphones.

“It is understood police do not believe anyone else was involved or any suspicious circumstances are at play in her disappearance.”

They must have it on good authority that she just took off on her own, apparently. (?)

Search and rescue teams have found a body on the banks of the Ashley River on Saturday afternoon.

"The body was discovered around 4pm while Canterbury police district was running a training exercise for search and rescue staff," says Rangiora police Senior Sergeant Paul Reeves.

A formal identification of the body will now be carried out. The death has been referred to the coroner.
