The ear is similar indeed. I think it could have hit too because of the dated signature (7, 14 etc) and maybe even bc of the tshirt neckline? I'm curious, I wish it highlighted the areas that made it hit, for my own educational purposes of crosschecking sketches in the future.

Sorry I should have been more clear. I highly doubt if Abby communicated using the family computer. All her stuff would be on her smart phone. Teenagers use those for facebook and chatting, not some family computer. Those days are gone.

Well my kids are always on the laptop and iPad so I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Either way the point is, any communication could be forensically traced.

That's true. But it just pisses me off when parents don't want their kids anymore. Kids aren't disposable. Kids are legal to be on their own at 18 and can emancipate themselves at 16. But parents shouldn't just take off with their new lovers, and leave a 16 yr old to raise themselves. JMO

Even at 18, most cannot survive without help/room mates, other parents. My oldest's senior year (2006), he personally knew over 10 kids who were tossed out either at 18, before graduation, or right after graduation. These were "good" kids- not "problem children". The parents- not so much

Well my kids are always on the laptop and iPad so I guess we will have to agree to disagree. Either way the point is, any communication could be forensically traced.

Maybe maybe not. I would think that the smart phone may have been synced with a computer but many of the accounts would have to be set up. I have my laptop synced to my galaxy, but before I did that, the only way a person could have had my text messages would have been if they had my phone. Abby's mom asked BF dad for Abby and Jimmy's texts. No one has access to things that were on Abby's phone and she took that with her.

I used my facebook account on both devices, but theoretically, I could just use my phones. Modern smart phones do not need a host computer to sync with anymore.

yep, but those things would still be discoverable by access to the account she used, unless she had some FB or other account which nobody knew about, was not tied to any known email addresses, and she never once used on any device they discovered. (all assuming they did a thorough electronic investigation which i would have to assume they did given the level of LE involvement here)

ITA. I needed "help" well into my twenties. I pretty much always needed my parents for first/last/security on an apartment. But at least an 18 year old has the capacity to contract, and can work without being under certain labor law restrictions. There is a reason that minors are expected to live at home and to be in school. I do not understand why it is not taken seriously when a 16-year-old is essentially living on the streets. That should never be legal. That child should either be in a home or in foster care. Shelters for teenagers should only exist as a temporary measure before they are placed somewhere more permanently.

This is good thinking, Cluciano. One would think LE might have thought to check the schools and libraries internet logs / cameras, but who knows? I definitely think this would be an avenue worth pursuing if not done so already! (LE, hope you're reading this, in case this has been overlooked).

different families have different rules regarding computer use, phone use, facebook access. its not like there need be any disagreement.

my nieces and nephews only have computer access in the living room, many of their friends have their own phones and computers in their bedrooms and their parents do not monitor them at all. kids that are into gaming use social media on their PC all the time, there are no hard and fast rules.

anyway, all this can be discovered even without the device, unless you are completely unaware the device exists and it cannot be tied to person in any way (including thru friends contacts etc). it is highly unlikely but not impossible that she had some hidden device they are still not aware imo.

yep, provider can give a full print out of any texts sent and received thru an account.

I was shocked to discover this a few yrs ago. My daughters i-phone went missing from a friends 'kickback.' She thought it might have been stolen. Saturday morning we went to Sprint to see if her phone was being used. The guy read us the last few texts that were sent, word for word. I couldn't believe it. And he was just a regular salesman. He just looked her cell number up, and with my permission, was able to read all of her texts.

However I think they are just kept for a matter of months. So if LE needs them they need to get a warrant fast or they lose them.

and you are right; it totally sucks when egg & sperm donors unload/abandon their kids. The 2 I discussed are mentored by many decent adults who are more parental than whom left them.

usually with facebook there is always some kind of connection back to the individual, unless someone really goes out of their way to make it a completely anonymous account.

for example, in your case i bet LE could tie it to you thru the email address you signed up with maybe?

most things can be found this type of way, not all im sure but most.

IMO all of the supposed untraceable messaging apps all have a backdoor vulnerability that LE can access if so inclined.

Kickback= a word kids use when they don't want to say it is a party. As in " Hey Mom, can I have a little kickback here tonight. It's NOT a party, just a few friends, kicking back"...:facepalm:
