The cell phone is like a big horn honking continuously in my head.

It makes no sense.
Why would we ask random businesses to check their lost and found for Abigail's phone? Do they honestly think her phone will be located that way? That's absurd!
Perhaps they want the perp to think she left the phone somewhere else and doesn't have it?
Or maybe they have the phone and don't want anyone to know it so they are asking people everywhere to look for it?
I mean, that one statement, asking business owners to look in lost and found for the cell phone is like saying let's see if she put her shoestrings in the mailbox. It has no connection to this story.

She wouldn't have shared or told if it was another boy she was meeting (not her current boyfriend) jmo

I agree totally agree but still consider as well; someone she may put on a pedestal that may not make her birthday but wants to treat her maybe shopping? I am leaving all options open and that means tossing ideas & possibilities out there. :twocents:

Great point! Now you've got me reading between LEs lines! It does seem that all of the info they release is done in 'code talk' in this case. Jmo

I do not believe LE is talking in code...I think they just do not know what they have. Would be glad to be wrong, but was not impressed by the handling of Celina's case. JMO

Bear with me...I have been working on a map to try to calculate where Abby might have been walking at the time of her last text at 2:53 pm. This is assuming she walked at Google's pace, didn't stop, and used North/South Road. I know she was a runner but she was probably carrying her backpack, had on boots, and was texting while walking. I won't go into all the details but I broke it down by feet per minute and then back to percentage of a mile. Here is what I came up with: That would have put her at Mountain Valley Blvd. which was 1.2 miles into her walk marked A on the map.

https://maps.google.com/maps?saddr=...&t=h&gl=us&dirflg=w&mra=dme&mrsp=0&sz=17&z=15

B would be approximately where she might have been at 3:07pm. But the cell activity showed her west of Cranmore at that time. So, somewhere between Mountain Valley point A and point B she could have gotten in a vehicle. Locals help me out...would it take about 6-7 minutes to drive a point between A and B to west of the Cranmore Resort? If so then that would mean she might have been halfway between those 2 points since that would put the time around 3pm. 7 minutes before the last activity at 3:07. I see a little road of some sort that leads to North South Road about halfway on the blue route behind the outlet stores.

Hope this makes some sense. I know there are lots of variables but I wanted to try to figure this out!

After following these cases; it IS code talk. This case is not new in that regard; just the lightening response!:loveyou:

Although I listen to LE & try to decipher the words; it is often easier IMO to watch what they DO (where they search, who they talk to) basically read between the lines.

ETA ~ this is a strange case given the silence, however my belief is still the above to figure out this case.

I was actually sitting here doing the same math calculations using the average walking rate of 3.1 miles/hour. Thank you for this post!

Would have been helpful to have released description of the phone (with the case being the recognizable part, obviously) last week.

Once they realized that the phone was not in the home, it would seem to me very important to find it. It either had to be with Abby (!!), or discarded-- in which case it could yield important evidence.

The lost & found.... to me that is just a COMPLETE shot in the dark.

Oh my goodness, after I made my post & back-tracking I saw yours almost the complete opposite lol. Clue I always value your opinion on these cases, we have been through too many tragic cases that never stop. Even if we have different thoughts here & there, we have the same goal :blowkiss:

I mean... asking businesses to check their dumpsters?? She went missing a week ago!! If LE thinks her phone may have been discarded in a dumpster somewhere than okay, but a week later the trash has probably been picked up by now! Not very helpful a week later, IMO.

In the school security camera shot, she is carrying the phone, and she was texting with it as she walked. So, since no one ever saw HER again, how could they, why would they, think her phone was laying around somewhere to be found by someone? Figure that out if you can; I cannot. But I think it's a most important thing.

The only possible thing I can come up with is they have something that leads them to believe she ran away and would throw the phone down and they need it so maybe it's content will trace back to her or maybe they have her on camera in a struggle and she drops it but now it is no where to be found all of this is just moo and doubtful but I just can't come to a conclusion why LE asks for lost and found bins to be searched???

Sorry, I may have missed the part or a link asking businesses to check their dumpsters, would you please clarify? TIA

That map link doesn't work for me :(

Hmmmm see the person on ask fm pretending to be her bf. We'll he just says he is 'jimmy'. Maybe he is a jimmy. Just not her bf.

Please do not link to a social media account unless you are 100% sure it belongs to Abby.

Sorry. Is anyone else having trouble with it? It works when I click on it.

If you zoom on the North/South Road north of Walmart where it intersects Mountain Valley Blvd. that was A. And then behind the outlet mall on NS Road where there is a small road/driveway south of Barnes Road was B.

I thought of this too, but when I tried to envision a teen dropping, throwing or even setting down their phone well, that vision just wouldn't come  phones seem to be their 'lifeline' especially if they are upset. I don't think I have any photos of my kids where their phone is not affixed to their hand, I'm lucky if I have any photos of them looking at the camera. They are usually staring at their phones instead.

I really think LEs request to look in lost in found is just a smoke signal going out to whoever has her. Maybe her phone was still pinging and they are trying to tell Abby to turn it back on so they can find her? Jmo, I'm still new at this sleuthing stuff :)

I just get the screen where it asks me to input addresses for directions.
