What if text messages. (Or iMessages rather) are sent over wifi? That wouldn't be able to be retrieved would it?

  • #62
I've been trying to find the answer to that. I would guess the ISP would be able to provide them.

Snow is coming any second in this area...if they think there is any reason to be out searching it needs to be done asap or this case is going to go unsolved for at least 6 more months.

I truly wish I could reach every kid in this country to teach them how to be safe with these things and defend themselves when in trouble..... but its impossible..... of all the kids I have reached out to only one.... a close friends daughter is the only one who just doesn't listen and doesn't care...... even when her father and I told her bout our friends that were killed when we were teens.... her response was maddening.....oh you guys, that isn't gonna happen again...... I thought her dad was gonna explode!!!!!!! (He and my besties stepsister had crushes on each other and the stepsis died with my bestie) some kids just won't listen..... I think abby tried to be safe, but in that one opportunistic moment became unsafe, walking alone......... :(

I hope it includes over the state line. I watched, must have missed that part. Thinking I'll watch again for whatever else I missed!

I think technology safety (phone, internet, social media, etc) needs to become a required part of the curriculum. Start early and address it every year until they graduate.

Well, they aren't even allowed to defend themselves in schools when being tortured by bullies. We are squelching confidence, self-respect, independence in being able to stand up for and protect one's self.

(sorry, a very short little somewhat off-topic rant there)

I think AH was a good kid, trying to be safe, good morals. Got herself into some spots I'm sure (clearly by what we saw on twitter and now being missing). All in all though, it seems she has had a very good head on her shoulders. No matter what though, she is still just a kid :(

Parents need to remember they own these devices. Check up and check in with their activity, OFTEN!

What is the current "mood" up there? Are parents keeping an extra eye on their kids, sheltering them a bit more, locking down their SM? Are the police or other LE acting as if there is a crazed killer on the loose or are they acting more as if this wasn't random?

I guess my question is for anyone local but after reading your post I was just wondering about that.

ETA: my heart truly breaks for everyone in that community. I cannot imagine what it must be like to be a kid there now, or a parent for that matter.

It's hard when we try to warn the ones we love and they seem to not want to listen.

I think Abbys mother was no different by expecting Abby to take the bus.

I do believe in fate. That one we can't get past!

two things i didn't know (maybe i missed it)...she ONLY texted JDCjr and it was from an iphone:

http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/23911566/one-month-later-still-no-sign-of-abby-hernandez

"From there, she was never seen again, but for a full 20 minutes she is using her cell phone to text a friend.

"Between 2:23 and 2:53 is where the last known text message she sends to that specific classmate is made," Ramsey said.

He said there was nothing unusual about the text messages and no other students had any communication with her.

"Fairly innocuous, nothing that's caused us concern," said Ramsey. "That individual has been very cooperative with us in the investigation."

The 15-year-old Kennett High School freshman, known for her cheery personality, love of her pink iPhone, and heavy presence on Facebook, has not been seen or heard from since just before 3 p.m. Oct. 9. Her phone has stopped working; her Facebook page is idle.

i'm not in conway so ireally can't answer that.... i think that from what i have seen on the news parents are very worried and i think this is that case that whether people especially kids aren't saying much but i think they are still in shock that this happened....

ijust spoke to my dad, he lives up in the north country..... he said him and a couple of his buddies have been all over crawford notch (302 area to the northwest of conway is best i can describe it)...... some of his friends are hunters...... they are all well aware, and they have seen nor found anything...... he is a backwoods guy so though i triedto reachhim when i went up north to look i was unsuccessful.... but he said to me when i filled him in.... "i didn't think it would be too long before you told me you came up north and started looking..... i know how you are"....... yup still daddy's girl lol

i think they say pink because it is in its case...... the phone alone is white.... but by saying its white could throw people off if it is in its case as it should be

I've had the same iPhone for coming on to 3 years.. I was shocked to find out that anything deleted is never actually gone.

If you go into the search function and type in any name, word, item, thing.. Every. Single. Deleted text, call, email, contacts pops up. An iPhone keeps everything, even after you click delete.

Yes, on the phone. Unfortunately, they say they do not have the phone. That phone could give them all the information they ever needed if this was a planned meet up with somebody, if this was something going on with boys/friends/classmates.

i believe i caused some tangles last night so to clear up two points:

1) i used the term 'bestie' to describe DF, not MSM. she's her one friend quoted regarding the path she took on the dirt road. judging solely from FB, she seems to be a 'bestie'. but i cannot link that any other way. perhaps she's not...it just seemed so to me.

2) i found six different specific addresses in the jackson/bartlett/glen/north conway area attributed to ZH. with apartment numbers no less. i have no idea the time frame but if you were looking at one-to-two year leases, she may have moved frequently. i can't confirm that. regardless, i don't believe the girls were uprooted per se, just moved within the few miles that separate those towns. different elementary schools may have been attended but the middle and high schools service all of them.

no sleuthing necessary, i was just trying to point out that they've lived "in the area" for a long time. sorry if any of the above caused confusion!!! it's all JMO from what i found.
