If the parents believe Abby was abducted, they need to make that loud and clear. The media and public is going to lose interest...They do not follow/care about cases of runaways. It doesn't matter if they don't want to face the reality that their child was abducted; pretending she wasn't is not going to make it not so. I don't understand this idea of behaving like your child is a runaway when instead they are being held by some crazed kidnapper or have been brutally murdered? Trying to sugarcoat it is not going to bring your child home. They need to start thinking about the "other option" if they want Abby to come home/get justice for her.

What if the FBI does NOT want the parents to voice their fears of abduction? What if they are coaching the parents on what to say? I don't necessarily think that is what is happening, but just something I've been pondering. :moo:

Hi all, Tang stopping by to weigh in on some of the more recent posts about the new website. I just wanted to share that I was a friend of Paul Kirsch's many years ago before careers took us to different states. I will totally vouch for him being the selfless, hardworking volunteer that you all are witnessing. If he started another website with 1 other admin, I imagine it was because he felt there was a need for accountability with what was being posted. I just checked the other website and can see what I would call some "unprofessional" and unproductive posting by a few of that board's admins. Again, just my $.02 here. God Bless him for the hard work that he is doing (both visible to us and that unannounced as well). May Abby be found soon.

I have met Paul myself, just didn't know it until this case with Abby. If I remember correctly, he can be quite comical, too. If I am wrong,sorry, Paul!

Hey All, the Amway salesman is back. A quick reminder about something the Attorney General said in the press conference today-

They need people to continue to be sharing her face and posters anywhere they can outside of the Mt. Washington Valley. I know many of you have already been doing this and I am truly appreciative of that but I will make the pitch again. If you have time, go to the bringabbyhome.com website and take a minute to share her photo or print out a few posters and put them up anywhere you can. I just updated the English posters to have the website and QR code on it as it allows people to go to the website quickly to learn how they can help.

We're working on some new ideas to get the word out there but every little bit you can do helps.

There's lots of discussions about Amber alerts and all that, and I know all well intentioned but, in the meantime, if you look at the letter from Zenya to Abby, I can tell you that 12,000 people saw that on the new Facebook page. Over 18,000 unique visitors to the website since November 5th. 100 magnetic signs out on trucks and cars, thousands of posters printed and posted. Millions of tweets and posts. That is our own version of whatever you want to call it, Abby, Amber whatever. It's all keeping her story alive. Thank you all for anything you have already done like this and anything you can do moving forward.

This latest press conf. has me more than perplexed. I do believe her parents are in agreement that she left of her own accord. I don't think LE agrees or is totally comfortable with that assumption. The letter is clearly assuming AH has the ability to come home, and in another article Jane Young was quoted as saying they hope to have AH home by Thanksgiving. What a beautiful thing that would be!

So I was thinking a while ago when you first posited the the notion that the FBI was already in the area and for what reason but I came up empty.

I now think the answer is Fryeburg. I know it's small town but the fair is by no means Small Time. It's huge and the sheer number of 'out of towners' can pose a significant safety problem for the public and for national security. Not just with regard the visitors but with exhibitors as well. Who are they, where are they from - it's impossible, so after the Marathon Bombing in Boston, the Boston office of the FBI was taking no chances I would almost guarantee.

SO what are some thoughts? Can any locals attest to a heightened security presence at the fair? Dogs, searches, teams of officers, etc?

The fair ended on Sunday the 6th and Abby went missing on Wed. the 9th. and I imagine exhibitors were still breaking it down and packing up

The Fair is HUGE. I don't think people realize it. There are truly, many in the local surrounding area that don't bother with it anymore because it has become a huge tourist activity. Some not far tried to get a camp site or crappy motel room and nothing was avail (I'd hear it in the gas station -- just like my mother heard everything at the hairdresser) They used to give a day off of school here the week of the Fair for kids/families to go. They've stopped in teh past few years. It is a madhouse.

The FBI is also around in general and there were some issues in maine regarding trafficking and higher FBI presence being sought. Boston is not that far either and there are masses of FBI in that area. To get up here, not that big of a project nor long. I believe you were talking the next morning. Really, they could have been there that evening.

Let's not forget the 911 bombers left from Portland Jetport (an hour give or take away from Conway) and hopped on flights from Boston... and the Marathon Bomber and imbedded groups left in Boston area, do we think they weren't looking in Portsmouth, Portland, Bangor, Lewiston/Auburn? Rural is a perfect spot for the obvious to hide, because typically nobody is looking there. International Airports, Coastal Access, Canadian Borders, Child rings (clearly must have been followed if broken up a few weeks ago in Toronto) Not seeing the big deal with the FBI being nearby, doesn't seem that odd to me for coastal New England area and all that has gone on in the past decade plus.

I am completely confused by the press conference. Why would LE or the AG agree to put the runaway letter out there unless there was some factual basis for it? It easily could have just gone on the FB page. Why go to the trouble of organizing an event?
We have seen so many cases where parents are on TV nightly asking the abductor to bring the child home, surely the NH news outlets would publish or broadcast anything the family had to say. I live in NH and they are giving more press to the weather at right now. I can't help but think if it was one of my kids I'd be beating down the doors of any tv, radio or newspaper that would give me a minute of their time.
I keep wondering why her father has been absent, who is he? Why is the family so silent and the BFs family so loud?

I was at the Fryeburg fair this year and I have gone probably ten times, there was no heighted LE. Is it a big fair, yes. But by no means the biggest in the region. The Big E in Massachusetts is far larger. We also went to the Red Sox parade and personally I did not notice any difference in security as there was for the last one.

There is nothing that says LE thinks she was abducted, once the initial response was over. I think they did that to cover their butts, just in case, due to Celina's murder and that is also why they are still showing their faces (FBI). But otherwise, I think they believe

Maybe whatever evidence they have, maybe from her past actions, friends, a journal, tips, etc., leads LE to believe her mental state was that of a runaway. Obviously, the parents seem to agree. I hope that's the case.

They could quietly pull off the case, and say they have to direct resources elsewhere, which is something we've seen in every case (# of LE dwindles).

I would like to think you are not supposed to notice heightened security at a huge city event just months after a terrorist attack? Big E is out in Springfield, likely bigger, but not as concentrated nor as widespread of a drawing. Would you agree? I'm much more familiar with Fryeburg though have been to Big E long long long ago.

In agreement. Action speaks louder than words is my take on this.

That said, in regards to Amber Alert issues... I'm also a believer in action and it won't change until people do something to change it. A quick email or phone call from as many as possible will help that. We can discuss until we are blue in the face, but without talking to somebody who has the power to make the change, it is all useless. Email and/or call your senators and representatives.

As for Abby, yes. Keep putting up signs, talking, sharing. Not much but it is all we can do.

I think the FBI presence has to do with much bigger things happening from Bangor down to Providence

True, there was that and that's always going on to some degree. I wonder, though, if investigating ongoing widespread crime gives them the resources to mobilize large numbers of personnel and search wide areas of rough terrain with dogs, air searches, etc. all on only a few hours notice. Seems to me that having those resources already in the area in the event of a Boston Marathon repeat is more likely.
