My gut feelings from this quote of ZH tells me the letter is NOT from AH, and intact a dupe from the perp. If she's receiving cards and well wishes from strangers.. Then that means the PO box address is listed publicly somewhere. This being found by the perp, and sent it to get LE of his/her trail.

I hope that's not the case.

"Dupers Delight"? In true sociopathic form?

The thought makes me shudder.

Surely, it wasn't just the tone that convinced LE. They may have gotten Abby's fingerprints or DNA from the letter, huh?

Whenever I see this line in the media articles "Zenya approves of the Bring Abby Home Facebook page and she is not associated with other "missing Abby" Facebook pages.", I wonder if it has a purpose. If it's worded that way to get reaction from other people.

I can't imagine they took that long with it to only get 'tone' from it. I realize there are unsolved cases out there, but I think we all need to give these organizations (the FBI, Secret Service, LE) some credit. They are quite bright and to sound like the 70's, they have the technology!

Reading and thinking about that letter since it's the only thing we have to discuss.

Evidently Abby gave no clue who she was with or where she was or the doors would have been broken in by now.

I would love to know the contents and if it was from Abby her state of mind.

An angry, rebellious daughter or a scared girl that made a big mistake.

One thing we do know it that the letter certainly did not much to bring Abby home.

Just created more questions and speculation.

Maybe she just wrote that she was safe and happy and not to worry. Maybe she is not angry or scared. No way of knowing.

Something simply doesn't sit right with me and this letter. It seems all too convenient. While I would like to believe Abby wrote this, I think it's simply wishful thinking on everyone's part. Sending a letter to her mother's PO box ( or ANY PO box) seems... strange (unless, of course, that's where all of their mail went, in which case, not as strange). But why not a call? Wouldn't that be the quickest & easiest form of communication? And a much more convincing "I'm okay?"

Do I think Abby is alive? I do.
Personally, I think we're dealing with a case similar to Elizabeth Smart or the kidnappings of Ariel Castro.
I believe the perp knows what he's doing (most likely this isn't his first) & is playing with LE, who sadly, I don't believe have much to go on. IMO

I'm not that much older than Abby and remember 15 quite well. Abby isn't your "typical" runaway. She has a social media presence. She is close with God. She has a boyfriend (and you know how teen romances are). I don't buy she would willingly leave all of that behind, especially for 2 months.

At 15, I remember all of the sketchy places & shortcuts my friends & I ventured after school. Did our parents know? NOPE! At 15, you feel invincible. To walk through the woods or a back alley didn't seem dangerous. Now? Hell yeah.

And another thing I wanted to throw out, is a possibility of why she had her handbag with her. At my high school, we weren't typically allowed to carry backpacks around from class to class. They were to be left in our locker until we were dismissed at the end of the day. Handbags for girls were allowed, though, for personal items and such. Not all girls carried one, but most did, and then would shove it in their larger backpack, along with textbooks, when leaving.

First of all, ZH said it went to a PO Box in another town. She didn't even confirm it was hers. For all we know, it was sent to a police PO box in a neighboring town and that's why it took so long to sort it all out.

Secondly, DO NOT SLEUTH family addresses at all, family is not sleuthable.

Just reading back through all the posts about the letter.

Now I am wondering how sure it is from Abby.

Didn't JA leave the door open just a crack with her "we believe"?

Was the letter tested for fingerprints?

Was the letter tested for fingerprints?

I would have to go back and watch the video of the big reveal to see what was said about how they came to the conclusion it was from Abby.

With that said..IMO...the FBI or whomever would be in charge of things like that during a missing child investigation probably tested for everything under the sun!

But gloves and nonstick stamps make detection pretty hard. If the letter was typed, as many believe, that would make detection hard too!

It's been a long time with nothing really...real!

Good morning everyone!!

After years of just reading along on websleuths following many cases, today I am diving in as a new member. I cannot think of a better group of posters to join in with. What you all contribute here is just amazing!! I pray every day that Abby can be reunited safely with her family. This case has become personal as I live less than an hour away from Conway and happened to be leaf peeping up there with my daughter on the Monday following her disappearance. Being a mom, I am gravely concerned about this case and recent abductions happening all over. It makes me angry and sad that our children cannot experience the joy of being able to go out and play without fear. Hopefully, we can make a difference here. I know I would love to get even one of these perps behind bars. Thank you guys for using your talents and know how to help bring Abby and others home.

See, that's the thing. If there were no fingerprints from Abby on the letter or envelope, then that would lead me to believe that it wasn't from her. If it was from her - whether it was hand-written or typed - I would think that it might be difficult for her to handle a piece of paper, fold it to put in the envelope, seal the envelope, put a stamp on it, mail it, etc., without leaving at least one partial fingerprint on either the envelope or the letter. If there were no fingerprints on them, or if there were only someone else's fingerprints, that would indicate to me that someone else likely handled the paper/envelope (either with or without gloves) and wrote or typed the letter. I don't know why Abby would want to keep her fingerprints from being on the letter/envelope if she wanted her mother to know it was from her.

Of course, I'm assuming that it wouldn't be difficult to get fingerprints (no matter whose they were) from those documents, so it's possible that there were fingerprints but LE couldn't tell whose they were because of smudging or the type of paper, etc.

I wish we had more info about the letter (fingerprints or not, written or typed, postmark location, etc.), but I understand why LE is keeping that info from the public.

Hello and welcome. Roses are my favorite flower!

So I am anxious to hear your take on the Missing Abby and your take on what might have happened. Jump right in...

Welcome EmmaRose :)

Thanks everyone for the warm welcome! I am very confused by this particular case. Any updates seem to just lead to more unanswered questions. My concern is that the area she went missing in is first of all so close to wild, rugged terrain, her home is close to route 16, which is the main highway in and out of Conway which eventually hooks up to I95 into Massachusetts. Conway is also minutes from the border of Maine, and Vermont is relatively close by. The influx of tourists in Conway for leaf peeping is very high on Columbus Day weekend so anyone could have taken her. Abby seems like a level-headed girl, unlike others her age. iMO, I don't see her as the type to runaway. If I were going to run, I would probably wait the few more days after my birthday to have a little more money to leave..... I wish everyday for Abby to be found.

Investigators did not initially disclose the letter because they first needed to run tests on it — including DNA testing, handwriting and fingerprint analysis, — to confirm its authenticity, she said.

She would not say where the letter had been postmarked, what it said or whether it was written by hand. She noted "the tone" of the letter is consistent with one Abby uses.

It appears to me that only the envelope might be handwritten ..JMO

"We believe, in fact, it was written by Abigail and it was sent to her mother," Young said. "This was a critical lead...It was one of the most tangible leads we've had in the investigation."

Does the LE say they also 'believe ' it was sent to her mother? Or what they believe is that it was written by Abigail . Confused a bit lol..
