Hi everyone! I've been lurking for awhile - finally decided to join. My husband and I live in southern NH and have been following this case from the beginning - I'm hooked on this case and pray Abby comes home soon - and safely!

I read something on facebook about her dad (RH) being CIA....what do you think the likelihood of that would be? I mean with all the hush hush regarding him and the FBI and Secret Service getting involved within a few hours of her disappearance.

Welcome KD. The FBI and SS get involved with missing children's cases at the behest of the local LE and by protocol. FBI for a myriad of reasons, some being jurisdictional, some being the anticipated danger the person is in. SS because of their specialty in dealing with things like computers, internet, cellphone activity. They're all part of the CARD team. The first 48 hours are critical, and the first 3 hours in that 48 hour time frame are the most critical so they hit the ground running. I think it was a combination of things that caused such a rapid deployment of the big guys: the age of the child (14), her lack of resources, her complete radio silence, the fact that she didn't take anything with her, and her character in general (not a previous run away). I also think that her parents in the process of divorce and a father living out of state added to the necessity for the FBI and SS.

Am I mistaken in my understanding that LE is "relatively" certain or that the letter "appears" to have been written by Abby? It seems like LE is not 100 percent certain the letter is from Abby.

IMO, even if LE believes that someone else wrote the letter, they could be trying to initiate another contact, in hopes of tracing it back to the writer.

You know, I believe you're right. They haven't said their certain but that they believe it is written by her. That might explain why they wouldn't want to give out the postmark. I mean there's no way to be certain it's her unless she were to add a picture or record her voice. A letter is difficult to confirm with 100% surety. And if they gave out where the postmark was from it might lead people in the wrong direction if the letter writer isn't AH.

I suppose it's possible they fingerprint-dusted the letter and maybe found a full or partial print? Seems a reasonable way for them to try to authenticate it.

I hope they were able to do that.

I hope they were able to do that.

Seems like it'd be kind of hard to either write or fold a piece of paper and put it in an envelope without getting at least a partial fingerprint on it.

My compassion lies with Abby, and her mother and father. I hate to imagine what each new day brings into their lives. More fear, despair, grief, frustration, and Lord knows what else, especially for Abby.

On GMA, one FBI agent was quoted as expressing concern that this may be an Ariel Castro situation.

I'm not sure I agree, especially if the letter was postmarked from out-of-state, which would explain why LE wants national media attention for the case. If this is true, I'm leaning towards sex trafficking.

If the letter was not, however, postmarked from out of state, and only LE knows the answer to that question, and if the friend/foe is a potential Ariel Castro type, why not bring in a perp whisperer?

I think forensic psychiatrist, Dr. Keith Ablow may be able to explain to the captor, if he is listening, WHY he's doing what he's doing. Would it work? You never know unless you try.

Ablow knows what make these guys tick, articulates it well, and has empathy for what these men could have been. Great article by Ablow about Castro:

Thank you gevee. Your post makes sense and it gives me hope that AH is alive and will be found. :)

That's true. Last year I read this article about a new technique used to life fingerprints from paper.
Paper is one of the surfaces most commonly tested for fingerprints in forensics. Unfortunately, it is particularly difficult to make fingerprints on paper visible. In the journal Angewandte Chemie, Israeli scientists have now introduced a new method developed specifically for use on paper. It produces a "negative" of the fingerprint and is, in contrast to conventional methods, independent of the composition of the sweat residue left behind.

Read more at: http://phys.org/news/2012-11-inverse-fingerprints-paper-visualization-latent.html#jCp
This site has interesting, non-techy facts about fingerprinting.

This video that the man reported on Friday, does anyone know what the video is about or has the video in question been released or linked anywhere, or just the single picture? I feel for this family...

I missed the GMA interview. Hoping I can find it online eventually someone will post it to youtube or something.

We know LE has probably gone over Abby's online footprint with a fine tooth comb. So IF she left purposefully, any adult(s) who are helping her either did not hatch a plan with her online or they covered their tracks well or FBI would be on them like flies on poo.

I really wish LE would clear up whether the "older boy" she befriended online had been cleared or if that older boy was simply a cover for someone with their own agenda to worm their way into Abby's trust.
