Boy found dead in Maine remains unidentified despite tips, briefing expected later today

BBM: So, the TOD on the boy would be the middle of the night, around 3-4 a.m.

I see a "couple" hours before the 0730 pop up in many quotes from LE. If that is accurate as being 0530, why and under what circumstances is a kid fully dressed at that hour?

I tend to be leaning away from a serial killer type, like most, as LE have not said anything to indicate to parents to take extra care watching children. Info is held back to preserve a prosecution case but if there was any suspicion of enhanced danger to kids, likely they would have said something. If there were evidence of a pedophile attack, even from a "related" party, you would still have the possibility it was a stranger abduction of a mother and son and some warning would be issued.

They are waiting on toxicology to come back before declaring a cause of death. How does a child die fully dressed at 0530 on a Saturday morn without obvious traumatic injury or an previously unknown physical prob with the heart etc. ?

As for the army blanket.... I wonder if that was symbolic? What if the mom killed her son because daddy died while in the army and she couldn't cope as a single parent? That would be a reason to wrap your child up in an "army blanket", but I don't know. Just a guess. Sort of strange that someone would lovingly wrap a small dead child in an army blanket though... Like with Casey Anthony, she wrapped her daughter in a blanket from the child's bed, they found it with her right? So why an army blanket? Maybe no significance at all, but maybe there was a reason...

The Boy in the Box was wrapped as well. MSP are keeping this on the downlow for sure...they dont want to spook anyone I would think.

Look around at the people you know-someone has lost track of a lovely little boy...someone is wondering where he his, like the grandmother in Ohio who called in the tip about her grand daughter Riley...Riley was discovered in a plastic container in TX after being killed by Mom and step dad in 2007. Who is missing from a first grade class room, who is missing from kindergarten in the area, who is missing their little playmate???

There are 3 very solid leads in this case:

-An eyewitness description (or two) of the female who was in the area of recovery at apx. 7:30 am. Did she have someone with her? A vehicle description was also given. Hopefully LE is pouring over vehicle registrations, and video taken within a 4 hour radius of the recovery location.

-Tire Tracks recovered would indicate that LE will be able to cross-check the witness(es) description of vehicle with the tires.

In the recent case of former Colonel Russell Williams, the tire tracks proved the biggest role in catching him. The tires in his case, were very unusual, and could only be installed on a very few specific make and model of SUV. When LE set-up a road block to hunt the killer down, they were specifically looking for the unusual tire that made the track. The RCMP in Canada have a database for tire treads, which was used. I am sure the U.S. has that also, and, with any luck at all, the tire tracks in this case will lead LE to the person who put that dear boy there.

-The Footprints that were found in this case, could lead to a very good estimate on whether there were 1 or more persons present, and could provide very good leads that way, if they are able to narrow down a description of the shoe or boot brand name. This happened in murdered Nurse Sonia Varaschin's case. LE was able to determine the apx. size and brand of boot left by the killer. Unfortunately, her death remains unsolved.

Let's hope there is DNA on the blanket from the person(s) who put the boy there.

Its not the wrapped part. Its the comfort. Dont mothers who murder usually wrap the dead child in something soft, warm, familiar, comfortable? Even though the child or person is dead, as a society we tend to do that. We aren't "Rational" about it. Like when my grandma died. I insisted she was dressed in her warmest button down sweater because she was always complaining of the cold when she was alive. Like it would make a difference. I was worried about her comfort, the way she was while alive, and thought of things the same way. Plenty of times a parent will wrap a child in a blanket that is very warm and very soft, and familiar. Parents will often stick a favorite stuffed animal in a casket, etc. So... My thing is, why an army blanket? My dad was in the army and I can tell you that they are warm but not very soft, and not very comfortable either. A little scratchy, etc. So my thing is, why that? Was there something to it? Did the child love this blanket? Was it the dad's or the grandpa's blanket?

LE is doing their job. They have asked for tapes from Cumberland Farms (Rt 236), Cumberland Farms (Rt 4 Portland Ave Rollinsford, NH), Mr Mikes (Rt 4 Portland Ave Dover NH) and Dunkin Donuts Main Street South Berwick Maine. I am not sure about businesses North of the site. Hopefully one of these businesses has this truck on tape.

Yes MA requires both back and front license plates and also have all kinds of specialty plates with pictures on them.
The basic plate is white, red letter/numbers and in blue "The Spirit of America" on bottom and "Massachusetts across top". MA also has white plates with green letters/numbers that they are trying to phase out.

Vermont plate is all green with white letters and have been the same plates since I can remember.

New Hampshire is white/green letters/numbers.

Maine is white I believe red letters/numbers and I remember many have a picture of a red lobster on them.

All New Englanders correct me if I am wrong on the Maine plate!

You are spot on VT has been green for eons. I guess that rules them out. Here in Ma we have several different specialty plates. One has a lighthouse another has a whale's tale fluke. RI is white and most of the old ones have a gray/blue wave through the middle of them. I hope this helps.

Did they specify if it was an actual military blanket or could it be military style blanket from a little boys bedroom set. My son has an all camo/military decked out bedroom suite that someone could describe as an "Army blanket".

Followed a NY car today and it was also a White Plate. Upstate NY boarder is only 4 hours away through Vermont. There is an Air Force base in Plattsburgh NY. I know that sometimes units from there are stationed here temporary since 911. Pease AFB has the refueling group that is still based here. I can't remember if they are full time service or National Guard.

Is it possible that who ever put him there dressed him first? It seems odd he would be dressed already that early in the morning. Is this something that parents that have killed their children have done before? Maybe put on a favorite or warmer outfit?

I also wanted to say that it doesn't have to be someone from or near a military base just because they had the emblem on the plate or plate frame. Lots of retired military have them and also family of military have them.

The old NY plates are white. The new NY plates are orange.

I still have a white plate, as do many here.

Thinking outside the box, if Le says he died & he was placed road side at 7:30 am "ish" and died 2 hours earlier.. that would make his death at 5:30am.. give or take that the killer(s) had to think about what to do and where to go, what is a hour and a half radius from the spot driving the local speed limit.. is that even possible to figure out?

*Also if someone did drive and hour in a Tacoma at the current gas milege, they would need gas atleast post dropping off of the child, I belive the child was placed in the coat post death because that would be an odd time for him to be out on a Sunday Morning. I wonder what happend Saturday night???

He may have been dressed if the people had been taking an early morning trip or had been driving overnight.

He was found Saturday morning, wasn't he?

I was thinking the same thing about driving distance too. I'm just south of Boston and can get to
berwick in about an hour and a half.

On a full tank my suv goes 300 miles....if they were full I'm not sure that they would have to stop for gas if they drove 1 1/2 hours there and then 1 1/2 hours back.
I can get from my house to Atlantic city NJ on a full tank, it's a six hour drive.

Just to collect our thoughts, if we were able to ask for clarification/more information we would want to know:

Example of blanket (military issued, olive in color, camo, etc).
Navy logo - actually on frame or license plate
Example of Cars shoes
Condition of teeth (articles reference being well cared for...does this include dental hygiene)

Just a thought....I talk to my mom just about every day. I live about 45 minutes away from her (she is my closest relative). I have a lot going on and she works retail so it is not uncommon for her not to see my kids for a month or more at a time. If we are possibly dealing with a military family, there may be grandparents or relatives that would not even realize a child is missing for who knows how long. There really needs to be a huge push to get this baby's face out everywhere. I do not think this was a stranger abduction...unless someone abducted an infant and raised him, but that would probably be a long shot.

The TOD is not really firm so there is some flexibility in distance a person could travel.

Rhode Island has an anchor on the plate itself, if the info about a Navy symbol is accurate, that could be something someone references. The plate is white and very light blue with dark blue lettering.

During the pc yesteday he mention it was not an army blanket, just the army green color.
