I don't agree. To blast 2 innocent strangers to death with a gun, shooting them multiple times, would indicate to me definite mental illness. Sane people just don't behave that way.

That isn't how mental illness works. Criminality is different from true mental illness. Not every criminal is mentally ill and not every mentally ill person is a criminal.

Completely agree & wish more people understood this difference. Thank your for your expertise & speaking up for the mentally ill

Yes, sane people do shoot people multiple times. In my opinion, the multiple shots means it is probably either a thrill killer or someone that was very angry.

I wonder if one of them was shot more times than the other. Maybe, someone was angry with just one of them. People can get angry over little things like a parking place, sitting in the spot they wanted, road rage, etc.

The killing was out in the open, and I think that means that the perpetrator was comfortable in the area. I think the killer lives close, perhaps even a neighbor of the couple. As for motive, I am leaning towards a hate crime or at least a person that hated the couple for some reason.

A lot has been said locally in NH, that they think the perpetrator is from Massachusetts.

But if that was the case, would they know about these trails in Concord?

I thought these trails were small local ones and not too well known?

Would someone from Massachusetts travel to and walk these Concord trails?

The answer is yes. Depending on where in MA they live, they might be 30-45 minutes from Concord. Many people in eastern MA spend weekends hiking in NH.

This statement from former FBI agent Brian Rich is something I hadn't thought of.
"With the couple's international ties, the FBI could be involved for more cross-border information."
Investigation continues into deaths of Concord NH couple

Yes, my ears perked up at the WMUR promo last night since that is what I'd posted about previously. In the full piece, though, the person interviewed is a former FBI agent rather than one with direct knowledge of this investigation. His analysis was informative about investigations in general. The international aspect was one of several avenues he said the FBI would be investigating.

Possible but not likely, in my opinion, that someone would travel from out of state to walk this trail. They'd most likely choose someplace better known, more easily accessible with parking at the trailhead, someplace better marked, and frankly more isolated and more scenic for a nature walk. This trail is close to a highway. you can hear traffic noise for much of it. Getting there requires traipsing under power lines. There is a substation in the woods.

That said, if someone from out of town was in Concord for another reason, perhaps they would stop for a walk. But the trail is rather obscure and difficult to find even when you're looking for it. My opinion only, it is a great resource for locals but not a destination for out-of-staters.

Possibly a former tenant of the apartments that was evicted recently? Maybe, this person thought the couple was the reason. I had a former neighbor that was evicted from the house across the street from me. He used my friendship with the owners to blame me for it. He told everyone in the neighborhood that I had him evicted. The truth was that he was four months behind in the rent. It cost the landlord over $5000 to repair all the damage that tenant did when he moved out. Some people never take responsibility for their own actions. They blame overs and can get unreasonably angry over an imagined injustice.

Concur. As a MA resident, I'd be unlikely to travel to Concord to walk on a trail like this. There are some many similar and so many better places to walk in MA and likely along the way up to Concord. If it's someone from MA, they were there for a different reason. If they came to Concord armed, were armed on the trail, and shot a couple the didn't know, to me it sounds more like they came for a specific reasons and the Reids were likely in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Broad daylight, two people, public trail. If it were a wrong place/wrong time situation, I imagine it would have been something very bad the Reids walked in on to have been shot for seeing it. My heart goes out to their family and to them for the time stolen from their lives.

Bullet-ridden seems different from multiple gun-shot wounds. It sounds like not 2 or 3, but many bullets.

Yes, someone armed with many bullets in an wooded trail area where there is no hunting.

Well, no hunting of animals.

But it sounds like two people were hunted.....

I live about five minutes from the NH border and I am about 40 minutes from Concord. Concord would be incredibly low on the list of places I would be seeking trails to hike…there’s so many more places that are not off the beaten path between MA and the rest of NH. My gut is telling me that this was personal or hate related.

Yes, that's what I was thinking. Thank you for those that have confirmed this.

A Week Later, Police Chip Away At Concord Double Homicide Leads: Video

<snip>

While officials have heard a mix of emotions from city residents, including those who live in and around the areas where the Reids lived, and where their bodies were found, investigators are still pressing the public for help.

Jeffrey Strelzin, an associate attorney general, said, as with all homicide investigations in New Hampshire, the Reids' case was "a very active investigation," with a lot of resources being expended to find who was responsible for the killings. He said the public would need to be prepared for the case taking "as long as it takes" — maybe weeks, months, or even years, to solve. Like some cases in the Granite State, it might not ever be solved.

"What we do is we follow the evidence in every case knowing that we, as the state, have the burden to prove any charge we bring, beyond a reasonable doubt," he said. "We understand that's an incredibly high burden. We know what it takes to do that, and we know we've only got one chance to make it right."

Strelzin said that is why cases can sometimes take a lot of time to resolve. He said he and other investigators appreciated the public's patience, too.

Michael Garrity, the director of communications for the department, said residents and witnesses had submitted "dozens and dozens of tips" to the Concord police about the case. The public can expect to see investigators back in the area, continuing to search for evidence and clues, in the coming days, he said.

True, but I've hiked a little known area over 300 miles from me while visiting relatives.

In theory someone from any state could have been in the area since they may have traveled there for Easter. I just don’t think a lot of people from MA are traveling to this particular trail but all it takes is one.

The New Hampshire Attorney General announced mid-morning that it is assisting in the investigation of 2 suspicious deaths in Gorham. That's about 100 miles north of Concord. No other details are available yet, but the possibility of a connection to the double murder in Concord has people unnerved and speculating.

All the news outlets have the same bare facts from the AG. The Berlin Daily Sun is local. It is the only one with a non-generic file photo. It appears to be the location.

I've looked through comments from concerned people on FB pages. None contain facts beyond the AG press release either. Maybe the noontime news will have updates in a few minutes.

eek.... the newspaper comments suggest this was a domestic, though the officials do not ID a suspect. Berlin is a really small town : (
