Elijah Lewis remains found in Massachusetts: authorities discover 5-year-old's body 'buried in the ground'

Massachusetts and New Hampshire authorities on Saturday recovered 5-year-old Elijah Lewis' remains in Abington, Mass., according to Plymouth District Attorney Tim Cruiz.

Authorities spent hours searching for the missing New Hampshire boy between Friday evening and Saturday morning after learning new information regarding his disappearance.

"This morning, state police, a cadaver dog and special emergency response team members located what is presumed to be Elijah's body buried in the ground," Cruiz said during a press conference. "I'm not going to get into the specifics of the crime scene or the manner in which this boy's body was found at this time."

Cruiz added that authorities found Lewis' remains in a "wooded area off of Chesnut Street."

So heartbreaking to hear this news. My thoughts & prayers go out to his family members who were desperately searching for Eli and are caring for his siblings.

Mother and boyfriend...how many times have we seen that combination here?

James Hutchinson comes to mind :(
It's a bitter blow when a child is found deceased, now moving forward justice must be served and whoever played a part in his death and disposal need to pay.
I'm so sorry Eli didn't receive the love and care he deserved.

Far too many. Violent men and domestic violence are endemic on the topics that eventually make this board.

Bless the kids who found the phone and the dog that found Elijah

I think a huge factor in infanticide is addiction and/or mental illness (with addiction the greater cause). (IMO)

I think you are right... also the greater culture of violence the perpetrator is exposed to.

This is such a sad outcome, even though it was expected.

High praise to the group of kids who found the cell phone and turned it over to authorities. Some people would have just discarded the phone and gone on their way. It is because these kids were willing to get involved and do the right thing that LE was able to locate little Eli so quickly.

I get the sense, and I am likely wrong buy throwing this out there, that it was more the "mom" than boyfriend. Moo

We're also seeing higher incidence of children dying in the homes of parents who have addiction issues. Children get exposed, somehow, and die from a drug overdose.

This is something I have direct experience with, unfortunately, and yes - especially if the parents are maintaining some kind of drug trafficking place, it's highly likely they are either exposed or become addicts themselves once they get older. It's a terrible cycle and really isn't talked about enough.

‘I Hate What Happened': Reaction as Body Found in Search for Elijah Lewis

A small memorial was set up in Abington, Massachusetts, Saturday, hours after the body of a child was found nearby.

Investigators believe it is the body of 5-year-old Elijah Lewis, who authorities in New Hampshire had been searching for since Oct. 14. A vigil is planned for the boy's hometown of Merrimack Sunday night.

Randy Stewart, Elijah's uncle, said Saturday that he feels "a small sense of relief knowing he's not out there suffering. He's in a better place now."

Elijah's mother, Danielle Dauphinais, is in jail along with her boyfriend on charges tied to the boy's disappearance.

I'll throw in the breakdown of family units. I'm not sure what the % are in the cases we look at here, but it seems many involve a bio parent with a girlfriend or boyfriend :(
Unstable adults always spell disaster for children'.

In the pressor, LE would not answer questions about how they found the information which lead them to Eli. But I feel it's safe to say the phone the kids found helped to create an electronic footprint of mom and the boyfriend. I wonder what they are feeling today? Guilt, sadness, regret? The jigs up, hopefully they come clean and tell the truth.
