Kayla: Adam first told her that Harmony was hit in face with light saber while playing with son, Seamus.

Kayla: after confronting Adam, he admitted to striking Harmony. Adam said he was in bathroom, Harmony was covering son's mouth, lips were turning blue, and Adam said he "smacked" Harmony.

Kayla: When social worker Demetrius contacted them, Adam got out of the house with Harmony. Kayla said she covered for Adam "I didn't want him to get in trouble." It was week plus before Demetrius saw Harmony....

Demetrius testified yesterday that when he finally saw Harmony, Adam told him the light saber story. There was a small red mark on her face. And he accepted the story.

Kayla: We were evicted from house because mortgage wasn't getting paid. We started living in our car, Chrysler Sebring. Me, Adam, Harmony 2 boys. We slept in car parked at Colonial Village in Manchester

Kayla: In the car, Harmony would not tell us when she had to go to the bathroom. She would pee in the car every day. Adam was getting angry. He would smack her in the face, legs, hand after an accident

Kayla: They were "hurt, stung" smacks. She would cry whenever she got smacked by him. I could hear it. It sounded like it hurt. I heard the smack and the crying.

Kayla: When he hit her she got black eyes. and bruises on her body. Did not see her bleed.in public, he would cover with a comforter in the car, so no one would see her.

Kayla: December 7 2019 is the day Harmony passed away. We were living in the car, sleeping in Colonial Village parking lot

Kayla: That day Harmony was still having accidents. Had one first thing in the morning. Adam kept punching her in the head.

Kayla: on way to methodone clinic, Harmony had an accident. He was yelling and screaming at her, punching her in the head. Harmony was crying

Its a heavy feeling in courtroom. All jurors paying close attention to Kayla's account of what led up to Harmony's death.

Kayla is identifying their dose history from the methadone clinic. She went in first, at 704AM. Then Adam at 709AM

Crystal Sorey, Harmony's mother, has just entered the courtroom.

Kayla: When Adam came out of clinic, he could smell urine, and kept hitting Harmony in the head.

Kayla: I asked to go to Burger King. Harmony was crying. A lot. And she was making a weird noise.

Processes need to change because of this horrible case, that there was no follow-up from MASS after AM relocated to NH is a huge problem.

Same thing happened in Shanda VanderArk case, she relocated to a new state and got her child back after her prior state had taken the son away from her. This needs to change ASAP!

CPS is different in each state but overall, the agencies need a serious overhaul/update/whatever. Thinking about Dylan Groves right now.

But one of the problems with advocating for CPS reform is that any movement will become infested by the pockets of people who hate CPS because their kids were rightfully taken from them. They're mad because CPS did their job, think there's some big conspiracy against them, and often harass the foster family.* You'll have people like us advocating for change because of how many kids end up dead from neglect fighting for legitimacy alongside Crystal McMethany who is just seething cause CPS took the kids she wouldn't feed and ignored.

* I know that kids are taken unrightfully as well but that's likely not as common.

“She went from [being] a girl who radiated happiness, to a scared girl, and from there she went to be the dead girl rotting in the bag,” prosecutors said during opening statements. “And then she went to be the dead girl rotting in the ceiling, a ceiling the defendant slept under for months.”

“I came home from work and I saw her face and it was really red,” Kayla said. “Adam said that she and Shamus were playing and Shamus hit her with a lightsaber by accident.”

Kayla Montgomery, 33, told police that her husband killed Harmony on Dec. 7, 2019, while the family lived in their car in New Hampshire. Kayla, who was Harmony's stepmother, said Adam was driving to a fast food restaurant when he turned around and repeatedly punched Harmony in the face and head because he was angry that she was having bathroom accidents in the car.

The couple noticed Harmony was dead hours later when the car broke down, at which time Adam put her body in a duffel bag, Kayla said.

Kayla: He kept punching her on way to BK. There were a couple of red lights, at lights he would go between the seats and punch her in the head. There were 2-3 lights.

Kayla: Adam kept saying "Shut the F up. Stop Crying."

Kayla: I cant even describe the weird noise Harmony was making. It was moaning, but crying. I can't explain it.

Kayla: I put my arm up and said stop. He gave me an evil crazy eyes look.I couldn't stop him from hitting her. The look he gave me was scary. I was scared

Kayla: That was one of the first times I saw him look at me like that. But not the last.

Kayla: Harmony was behind the passenger seat. I was in front of her.

Kayla: He struck her by punching her in the head. The other children had no idea what was going on. They were 2 1/2 and 11 months old.

Kayla: I didn't look at Harmony. I was scared. If he hit her really bad, it was going to look bad. Crystal Sorey is sobbing.

Kayla: He said "I think I really hurt her. I felt something."

I do. I think she is relaying things pretty accurately as she remembers them. Except for the fact she claims she went along with all of this because she feared Adam. I don't feel that rings true. I think she feared LOSING Adam and that is why she went along with all of if. JMO

I feel she has remorse, but probably wouldn't had she and Adam not parted ways and if they were still together she would still be covering for him. MOO

I think she was afraid of Adam but probably more afraid of losing him (like you said) and losing the access to whatever drugs/money he could provide. She can have both of these fears at the same time. And unfortunately I fear it wouldn't have been different had this happened to one of her biological kids.

The Kayla testimony so far, is a repeat from the opening statements. Only the 'folding' of poor Harmony immediately after her death was new to me.

As of this mornings break, the timeline is now towards the disposing of her body. I imagine the state will finish with Kayla before the lunch break. And then the defense will start with cross....and ( attempt to ) demolish her credibility.

This testimony is difficult to watch and listen to. The defendant clearly beat Harmony to death with his fists in that vehicle.
I believe if CPS had done its job early on when abuse was first reported, Harmony likely would be alive today.

I don't know if this is realistic ... but when people are evicted and have to live in a vehicle, I think the minor children should be placed in foster care for their own safety !!!
Imagine the close quarters and the stress leading to fighting and terrible abuse -- as we have seen what may have led to Harmony's death.
